Once in awhile......

......there are some entertaining car commercials. Didn't watch the Super Bowl, so didn't see all the commercials, but saw a site this morning that compiled what they thought were the best dozen or so commercials from the event. They also did a poll of the viewers for their favorites. This one drew just over 40% with each of the rest only in single digits.............and this from supposedly the best! First off it involves a kid, one leg up. But I think it hits a chord with folks because we almost all have some fond memories of our youth and childhood heros that we would imitate in our play. I don't know if it will really sell any extra cars (that is supposed to be the point isn't it?), but it's good for putting a smile on the face.

Yep, that was a bright spot amongst the commercials this year. I was disappointed with Budweiser - they used to put out several really creative commercials for the game but they were a bit lame this year, IMO. Same for Frito Lay & their Dorito's slots. The kid Darth Vader was probably tops for me too.

i loved the darth vader the most. The doritos to me was just nasty. I also loved the chevy one with the transformers camaro. The beetle one was pretty good.

That VW commercial was a good one - and I do recall doing a couple of things like that with my son, so it did hit a cord.

The Kia Optima were interesting too - or at least funny.

The 2-3 different Chrysler, Toyota and the Bud/Stella Artois/Bud Light - to me were uninspiring. The Doritos - mostly just plain as stupid as they have been in the past. My wife said the second half were worse and mostly car repeats

Strictly an opinion - it seems that today's hyperactive lifestyle, real or perceived, is coloring these commercials. Nothing is subtle - it's all "in your face" and mostly tasteless like so much of TV now seems to be (along with movies that {might} spend a week in theaters then go to DVD). This also goes back to Uncle Bob's post of why he likes it here. For the most part, we appear to be a fairly conservative group and probably a bit long of tooth, (we might not all vote that way), it does seem that when someone posts a link to a classic music site, we all enjoy those songs. Also, old car info sites are fun for most. I could go on, but I made my point

The Darth Vader one was very funny, probably the best IMO. Some were really lame, as was the halftime show! I don't think the Blackeye Peas were exactly correct for the target audience.

Remembered when I had my 38 Chevy. I put suicide doors on it with remote control (No dr handles) at shows kids would always ask "how do you get in?" The fun part I would tell them say " Open says me" and when they did I push the button the the dr would pop open Had tons of fun with that

Charlie's story reminds me of one I think I've told here before.

There's a guy up in these parts with a Model A coupe set up with a trunk. He's got the deck lid set up with a linear actuator hooked up to a remote. When the lid opened there was a monkey like stuffed animal attached so that at full open it looked like he opened it with his arms and legs splayed. This would get folks to oooh and aaah, giggle and laugh, and some, kids especially, would get a little closer to see more detail I guess. At that point he push another remote button that had the monkey whizz water on anyone in the line of fire. That evoked even more laughter................well, for most.:LOL:
