Where do you eat dinner???

When I saw Don Daltons picture on the screensaver thread, eating in his lounger, it really hit home. I can't remember the last time we ate dinner at our dining room table, we always eat on the coffee table in front of the TV. I bet a good percentage of us do the same thing, and only use the dining room for holidays and when company is over.

So, the question is............where do you eat dinner (or supper, if you prefer) ?

We do the same thing as you! "Supper" in front of the TV! I cannot remember the last time we used the dining room table for a meal! 8-)

X-3, we need to sell the dinning room, make it another man cave....

Boy I guess I'm (we) are alone here.. When I built this place I built it with a dining room it gets used as a sewing , craft ,and what ever room except holidays... We eat at the table in the kitchen, the wife wanted an eatin kitchen so our kitchen is may just a little larger than the dining room. But while sitting at the kitchen table we can see down into the family room to watch the TV.:LOL::LOL:

For me its a toss up, either in front of the tv or computer. Sometimes in the mancave.

I guess we're in the minority, but even when it is the two of us we eat at the table between the kitchen and the great room area. We can see the TV from there, and it is often on during dinner time. If it is me alone I am in the same spot - I never take a plate of food to my recliner - not sure why, just don't do it. We use the dining room table often when the kids & grandkids come for holiday meals, or to celebrate family birthdays. We're very big on family functions (Grandma insists), with everyone getting together at least once a month in addition to a son or daughter coming for dinner occasionally with their spouse/fiance. We're fortunate to have all three kids in the metro area, ranging from 5 to 50 miles away.

We're normal to above average because the Wiffy usually eats in bed watching HLN, HGTV or CNN and I eat sitting in the recliner with a TV tray watching TCM, TVland, RFDTV, or Local News channels

I'm astounded--we finish up our afternoon work and before dinner shower shave, polish my shoes, and put on a dinner jacket with tails--have our small glass of tomato juice, a cup of soup(love clam chower on Fridays), then our salads, before the main course--finish up with just a lite desert since as we are getting older, we need to watch our weight--of course, on the different evenings the different main courses dictate a different wine---Altho there is a tv that is visable in the mirror from around the corner, the sterio is playing some classical instrumental sounds---

The kitchen table is where I sit baskets of washed laundy no one wants to put up. I eat in my chair in front of the tv of course. But this has got me thinking. This is all wrong............................ If I moved out that heavy table it would make a good work table and I could store quite a bit of parts on shelves right there. And the door into the garage points straight at that area............................... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Excuse me I've got to go find my tape measure...............................

Some nights we eat at the shop, cooking brats, hot dogs, or steaks on our gas grille. Last night Don was tired of us holding our plates on our laps so he bought a folding table. It was really strange seeing that table with silverware on a napkin in the middle of the shop. He says now all we need is a candle for the middle of the table. :LOL:

poor guy .in his younger days he must of did way to much NITRO that mix with the iron dust from boring block s all day aggravates his condition giving him a Nitro flash back .in a day or two he will be fine

We sit in front of the tv,,as there is only the two of us,,but this week we have Lyndas brother and his wife staying for a few days,over from Brisbane,Australia..so there are four of us sitting in front of the tv eating dinner..We always have breakfast at the dining table though..Jerry,do ya wear your top hat with your dinner jacket,with tails??:confused:

Of course not----I can toss it with a spin and it will go onto the wall peg 9 out of ten times!!!!

And I don't like mustard of any kind!!!

But of course !!!!!!!! :cool::LOL: When Green24ford mentioned TV trays, that is probably what started the whole thing of families eating in front of the tube. We had those in the 50's and I watched my Saturday morning cartoons on one.

my fiance and i try to always sit down at the dinner table for the evening meal.
it gives us a chance to really talk.

We eat in the kitchen, but we can see the TV.

When my boys were still living at home we always set at the dinner table. After they moved out the wife and I started setting in front of tv trays watching TV while eating. After she moved out I either eat in the garage while working on something or eat out then come back to the garage to work on stuff.

Nothing like eating a sandwich with greasy hands. Just makes it taste better:LOL:

Don our kitchen is one big great room with a dining room table in the middle and a living room just to the other side, so we eat at the table, but usually do so watching a movie or tv.

When the bride is away I'll eat in front of the boob toob most of the time. When she's at home we try to take time to spend together talking about stuff. I find too that it's easier to slow down, eat slightly smaller portions, if we're at the dining area table rather than hunched over the table in front of the TV.

In the dog house most nights...:o

Most nights we sit in the family room, me in the recliner the wife on the sofa. We will watch a library loaner DVD of some past series, i.e. MI5/Bones/Mentalist If relatives or friends show up, we do breakfast and lunch at the kitchen table and supper in the "formal" dining room. If I'm home alone, anywhere it's comfortable, but often at the 'puter desk. If my wife is home alone - not a clue, but would bet in front of the tube:HMMM:

We sit at the table. We start with drinks. I usually have coffee & Cheryl has Pepsi or Pink Lemonade. We have a salad, me with French or Western & Cheryl with 1,000 Island. I'll have a medium well sirloin or ribeye, Cheryl has shrimp. No dessert usually as we are both so full we have to have someone else clear the table for us.
But, on the nights we don't eat out I dine at my desk since I'm either on the computer or still working or both. I built slide out boards in the office desk above each column of drawers One gets pulled out for the main course another for a drink. The drink board also holds wrappers for those times I let Subway or Mikey D do the cooking.

We fit the modern norm, I guess; about 98% of the time we dine in the family/living room in our respective easy chairs. About the only time the dining room table(s) get cleared off and put to proper use is when we have a bunch of company; the rest of the time, they are piled with projects and other such non-gustatory business. We eat out once a week or so.

Well now.If at all goes to the plan,I eat dinner at your house as part of the world tour "where in the world is Gary"?!!!.I just show up around dinner time hoping you don't have a big dog.:rolleyes::LOL::LOL:

Come on over, the cat's don't bite and we will even give you control of the remote.:D

Sitting in front of this box,or the tv,while the four pups watch for food to stray their way

We are in the process of building a new smaller house and getting out of the formal dining and living business as our formal dining gets used no more than twice a year and the formal living is never used. Misty ( our dog ) lounges in the living room. Our three children are all single and usually no more than 6 people here at any one time. When you start to get older things really change. When you are younger you think about building a big house and nothing wrong with that except for us we don't entertain that much any more and the extra room's etc. are just gathering dust plus the extra expense of htg. and cooling.

Going to an open kitchen w/eating bar, breakfast area and den area. Also no more stairs to climb as the old leg's are going fast.

Well since i have two small kids we have dinner at the table every night! The tv, if its even on, gets turned of for dinner and no toys allowed at the table! Under no circumstance if food allowed any where else in the house except the table or the bar in the kitchen! Im trying my best to teach my kids proper manners and how families used to spend time together. When the kids are gone though its a whole different story! Momma and i usually eat in front of the computer.

Absolutely the best way with kids at home. When they move to their own homes, then they can do as they please.
