The Shelf Life of a Twinkie: Longer Than A Fruit fly, Shorter Than The Universe

The Shelf Life of a Twinkie: Longer Than A Fruit fly, Shorter Than The Universe | Food
DEEP-FRIED TWINKIES
INGREDIENTS:
6 Twinkies
Popsicle sticks
4 cups vegetable oil
Flour for dusting
1 Cup milk
2 Tablespoons vinegar
1 Tablespoon oil
1 Cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
Icing sugar to taste
PREPARATION:
1. Chill or freeze Twinkies for several hours or overnight.
2. Heat 4 cups vegetable oil in deep-fryer to about 375 degrees Farenheit.
3. Mix together milk, vinegar and oil.
4. In another bowl, blend flour, baking powder and salt.
5. Whisk wet ingredients into dry and continue mixing until smooth. Refrigerate while oil heats.
6. Push sticks into Twinkies lengthwise, leaving about 2 inches to use as a handle, dust with flour and dip into the batter. Rotate Twinkie until batter covers entire cake.
7. Place carefully in hot oil. The Twinkie will float, so hold it under with a utensil to ensure even browning. It should turn golden in 3 to 4 minutes. Depending on the size of your deep fryer, you might be able to fry only one at a time, two at the most.
8. Remove Twinkie to paper towel and let drain. Remove stick and allow Twinkie to sit for about 5 minutes, and dust with icing sugar if desired before serving.

And the world marches on. Another American Icon down the river of life.
I never was much of a fan of Twinkies and such, but did eat the heck out of those various fruit and pudding pies; did have a deep fried Twinkie once, the fried batter it was dipped in was tastier than the Twinkie. Nowadays, only in a real pinch, and it looks like maybe "nevermore", as the Raven quoteth.
It's that sneaky Little Debbie selling her stuff cheaper the brazen hussy, actually I think Hostess was getting greedy the Twinkies and Ding Dongs were going for $1.29-$1.39 in the mini-marts for two pieces about the same as two Krispy Kremes.
Hey, it's their second bankruptcy filing....don't give up on them yet. Anymore, bankruptcy is just another business option....
They are not expected to go anywhere right away. Hostess filed bankruptcy 7 years ago also.
I am going out now to buy a package of twinkies.
I think Twinkies taste chemical. some of the other snacks they sell are decent, but I usually stick to Little Debbie if I'm actually going to buy a box of baked snacks. There are some Rasberry filled angel food cake rolls that are wayy better than anything else tho... Wonder bread would be a sad thing to see go tho. Then again, there are 3 other brands that could/ would buy the label if it came to that
Wow,Steve,,really hit a soft spot there, havent I??:DWhat makes me think that you just went to the market and bought some little sugary treasures, with the idea that they were to show me what they were?? Can ya take them back now,and tell the shopkeeper that you only wanted to take pix of them,to show a Kiwi what they were?? Nah...why dont we put them in the cupboard till later, they might be handy for munchies late at night...:D:D Gee,I'm a stirrer today...;) Seriously,,they look dangerous,,but quite edible all the same.T hanks for the effort to show me what they were about..Very kool... Hmmmm, those ho hos look nice,,thankfully,my sweet tooth isnt as sweet as it once was...:whacked:
What the heck does a “picture of the owner’s house” have to do with anything?? Hostess (formerly Interstate Bakeries Corporation – traded as IBC) is the largest wholesale baker and distributor of bakery products in the United States - assets of just over $980 million. We all know “Twinkies” and “Ding-Dongs” and such but they also do Wonder Bread, Natures Pride, Dolly Madison and several others.
They emerged from bankruptcy in 2009 and will in all likelihood come out of this one as well. They certainly have some “management issues” but their biggest problem is debts owed to current and former employees under various union contracts.
Of course, I only eat apple slices, carrots and raw cauliflower for snacks!! Not!! I’ve eaten my share of Twinkies – used to love ‘em on a road trip – stay fresh for weeks. Nothing like four or five of them to stave off your hunger. Can’t remember the last time I ate one but I do remember it caused a gut bomb that rivaled two bowls of fire house chili.
I usually pop a big bowl of corn these days and have long since left off the butter and only light bit of salt.
Gettin' old changes some things:LOL::LOL:
Regards All,
Glenn
