This Is Not A CraigsList Notice

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are dead set against Obama simply because he is black...Not right, just a fact. I guess I have more respect for those people who admit it then the one's who attempt to conceal their racism behind a bunch of bs!!!!

Race in this day and age should not have anything to do with this election, but like all the other lies that both candidates are spewing, they will make it one!!!! The facts are simple, we elected Obama to do a job that for whatever reason he's unable to get it done, therefore he needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, the only viable candidate running against him has his own long and distinguished list of shortcomings, too... There just doesn't seem to be such a thing as a good honest political discussion anymore!!! We're all supposed to be dead set for or against everyone and everything and never even consider listening to what the other side has to say, let alone agree that any of it has any validity. Guess I don't see where anything in this November's election is going to change any of this, and the only thing we have to look forward to is the continued downward spiral of the economy, and more total disregard to the Blue Collar Americans who built the country!!!!! I don't see where anything will change until we get rid of all the thieves and idiots in Congress that are ruining everything. But, I guess it's easier to just blame one person or another, and continue along the same old path of business as usual.......

Don't drag us all in that group! I wasn't part of that. I didn't vote for him due to his socialist views and plans for this country. Like you said, I doubt either choice is better than the other. But I can't stand the thought of Obama in there again. With the drought situation, bad economy, and the political BS, it won't be good.

Actually, the term "we" refers to the entire voting process... Who anyone voted for individually is a matter for them to decide in the privacy of the voting booth. "We elected" is probably an archaic term going back to my 6th grade civics class when Mrs. Scott explained to us that in a democracy, when your candidate loses it is am important part of that democratic process to respect the candidate who was elected, whether he was your choice or not, and to work within the system to bring about legislation that is for the betterment of all, not just a segmented part of the people.

Today, it seems that if I didn't vote for him then it is my duty to abhor everything the "other guy" says or does!!!! Just another indicator of just how badly broken the system really is, I guess......

No matter how you want to word it, or defend it, the system is broken and there is no real key way to fix it. From where I sit, it's not like the little guy can do anything to change it any how. All you can do is hope who ever is elected, doesn't make the mess that much worse. And really, the blame can't be laid solely on that one guy. Plenty of people help make the decisions good or bad.

Though the term "lot" is nebulous, and subject to wide interpretation, in the context that it means a large proportion of the non-Obama supporters it's just plain WRONG, nothing resembling a fact. For those that at their core oppose an overly dominant/opressive government, he's no more despised than Nancy Pelosi (to site just one example of a universe of possibilities)........I'd dare say he's somewhat more popular than her. Based on polling he's no more despised than George Bush was/is, just a different subset of people. To call that race based is absurd, and, if the actual intentions of some who fling that crap be known, dishonest. Are there some (my contention relatively few) who have racially based hatred? Sure. But those of us, and I suggest that to varying degrees it's a comparatively large number, who know we're not basing our opposition on race, we're just fed up with the false charges. Some don't have the courage to vocally protest, others do. But "in the privacy of the voting booth" they'll vote accordingly...............i.e. against the false accusations. If I've learned to read you correctly over the years I suspect you'd be pissed to be lied about. Many have the same visceral feeling about being falsely accused of racism..............it's a lie about their personality, motivations, beliefs, and soul. I hope there's a significant backlash against such false charges................we'll be a better society for it if it happens.

It's funny to think, that once upon a time the Democrats and Republicans met at the end of the day at bars in D.C. for drinks. They may have battled during the day, but in the evening they were willing to put their differences aside and have a drink together. I forget who stated this, someone from the 70's. He was pointing out that in the past our elected leaders disagreed on policy, not Party. Somewhere along the line that got really messed up. Before if something needed doing compromise was possible. Today it's like a blood fued, neither party can even hint and compromise as it is shown as weekness and betrayal to their party. The system is truely broken.

Racism exists in elections. I have lived through a lot of those things. My first presidential vote was cast in 1954 and I voted for General Eisenhower. There probably wasn't much of a racial element in that one, but I remember well when George Wallace ran as an Independent (1968) and pulled between 13 and 14 percent of the vote in the general election.

There definitely WAS a racial element in that one.

I do believe that racism is nowhere near as pervasive in this election as it was then.

If there is hostility toward the president it is more a result of his policies, his attitudes, and his lack of preparedness for the position he holds.

Racism? I don't see it.

Please walk softly, guys. This has been a great thread and I'd hate to see it jeopardized.

I concur, Jim. Well said. I would like to think that we're of the same mind here and that we judge based on performance (or lack thereof..) Mr Obama was not qualified based on previous experiences and that has been demonstrated in his inability to lead. The buck stops with him - regardless of what he says - he is responsible for creating an atmosphere that can foster bi-partisan cooperation. He has failed miserably in this..

There's plenty of blame to be spread but at the end of the day, he is the president and he is responsible for leading this country. Remember that a leader without a following is just a guy taking a walk..

I like your closing, Glenn. As a leadership example when Reagan took office I really wondered how he was going to do - a Hollywood actor with no international experience. However, he very quickly used his strong leadership and powers of persuasion to surround himself with true talent - icons from business and industry who had proven their capabilities by leading their companies successfully. He could then rely on sound advice when things got tough, and with his acting background he had the speaking part down pat. He was very adept dealing with people at all levels, from leaders of other countries to the rank & file across the board. Turns out Regan was a pretty smart cookie, IMO.

I'm quite sure we travel in different social circles, and because of this are hearing different things from different people. If no one in your circle admits to racism, I guess they're a lot more politically correct then those folks I hear around here. As for people telling lies about me....I pay very little attention to what people say to me, and absolutely none to what they say about me. I'm secure enough in my own beliefs and because of this I just tell it the way I see it and don't really worry about what is "right" (socially) or what others think. We all are entitled to our own opinions and the right to express them.

Not backing Obama, but could someone again tell me how ONE MAN in a position as head of the executive branch did all these things wrong all on his own??? and maybe who it was that wasn't paying attention and allowed all these things to happen??? Dave, if you start looking at the BS policies he has put up and got passed, or look at all the new policies he has in motion, or even if you watch any broad cast he is in, you can truly see where the fail comes from. I understand where you are coming from in the whole "he is one man" thing. But this one man has made a lot of crappy decisions and policies that my children and grand children will still be trying to fix. I'm not going to say I am MR.Political, because I'm far from it. But it's plain to see he doesn't need to be in office again. :eek:

My true feelings are that we need to wipe the slate clean clear across the board and start with new folks that weren't in office before. Then every 10-15yrs, wipe it again and try to get back to how this government should be ran. Will that ever happen? I highly doubt it with out a revolution and serious blood shed. So now, we have to figure out what is worse? **)

I can say that the easiest way to cut our government's spending is to eliminate the retired politicians pay out each year. Or at least cut it back like we all have got as well. Again, will it happen? Not in my life time I bet, and I'm not a betting man.

Well, out here in Lib-Land I think it's safe to say there are far more people who support him simply because he's black than those who oppose him simply because he's black. There's a kind of racial bias that transcends bad policy, bad ideology or failed record. It's weird but in their minds, they aren't being "racist," but if you oppose him, you are .

I agree completely!!!! I just don't understand why so many people think just changing President's is going to fix anything unless huge changes are made in Congress, too. I agree that we need to vote out President Obama in November, and I consider it a total farce that with our two party system Romney is the best that either party can come up with!!!! His record isn't that great regarding people!!! He was a consultant, his company (Bain) was paid up front whether they were successful at "fixing" the company they were working with or if the company went bankrupt---as some did. As the Governor of Massachusetts he was instrumental in instituting a lot of programs that he is dead set against now!!!

It would seem to me that these days everyone in Congress is either extreme right or extreme left---and there's is no longer any such thing as a moderate who will consider both sides of an issue and pursue a course of action that is best for the majority of the people...

Watch the BS in the Senate the next few days as they "debate" what to do with all the tax cuts that expire this year!!!! Nothing will be accomplished because all involved are more concerned with the election in November then they are addressing the tax issue. Many economist are predicting a severe recession if these issues aren't resolved now and the Congress let's them slide till the new Congress and the (new?) President are sworn into office in January....

As for cutting out the retirement benefits of Congressmen, that will never happen!!! Congress would have to be the one's to change it!!!!

Dave you brought up a good point that sparked something in my mind. Remember last year when Minnesota's government just plain shut down due to their slacking on getting their tax cuts and plans together? The governor helped them out. It was crazy. I could see that happening on a larger level with what you mentioned. Not only are those politicians so focused on the election, they're totally over looking what's going on in the USA with this drought. That will bring a recession of it's own I'm afraid.
