GM suspending Chevy Volt output, retooling for Impala

halting, for a month, the manufacture of its well-known Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric car.
The Detroit-Hamtramck plant will suspend production from Sept. 17 until Oct. 15.
Leaders of the UAW told the plant's 1,500 union workers about the scheduled downtime last week, the source said.
It would be the second interruption in production for the Volt, which can go 38 miles on battery power before needing a recharge from its gasoline engine. GM late Monday disputed published reports that the move is because of slow Volt sales.

Yeah, I don't think anyone here has ever put Ayn Rand up as a role model, but most people who read her books see a frightening parallel to our recent history. It's difficult for me to see any parallel between Ayn Rand and L. Ron Hubbard, who is best known for being the founder of the "Church" of Scientology. In his early days he wrote science fiction, while Ms. Rand wrote fictional social commentaries. Writers in recent history are not generally known for being exemplary individuals worthy of pedestals.

i'm still trying to figure out what his post has to do with any of this. it's clear he supports obama and the socialist trend we are in.
i know very few business owners who support any of this nonsense . paying taxes does not create jobs , reinvesting in your business does . even if you tax the top 1% at 50% it will not help . the answer is to get the 5% of people back to work paying taxes. keep in mind there is 5% or more in this country that will not work period . if you want that number to shrink drug test them for welfare and enforce the back to work part of welfare . which obama is trying to get around .

I think we should send gloves to all the people getting food stamps with a note that we are going to get them off food stamps-----------it might be shoveling snow this winter after the election, but at least in time to mow lawns and do the landscaping that the undocumented immigrants do next spring--------

It's simple to understand if you listen to what they say, both Alan, and the writers of economic "theory" like he linked to. For what they say to be in anyway valid you have to NOT believe that money is based on the exchange of value between at least two trading partners. You have to believe that corporations don't do anything of value for the money (value) they acrue. You have to believe that the "wealthy" don't do anything of value for their fellow man that may be of greater value than those who may acrue the fruits of lesser value exchange. And you have to believe that the "elite thinkers" such as themselves and those politicians they support know better how to exchange value earned by others more effectively than the earners do themselves.

That article is loaded with opportunites to learn REAL economics as it occurs in the real world, most of which is the opposite from what was stated. But most folks don't have interest in such things and it's certainly not taught in primary education.

my economic education came from fighting to keep a business afloat during the 80's. i have a very good understanding of how it works. each friday you pass out pay checks to a bunch of whiners who think they deserve all the credit and the profits. out of 15 i had maybe 3 worth a damn . then you have to match their deductions and support the useless bastards who wont work also paying workmans comp so they can stub their toe and lay up for 90 days. not to mention the ones who work just long enough to draw unemployment again while shacked up with some cow on welfare who has never worked a day in her life. her specialty is having babies that tax payers pay for then support for the next 20 years. i closed my business and dont intend to ever supply a job again . i've been taxed and regulated to hell . let the fern eating liberals support them from now on. dont know how since soon there wont be any jobs or people to tax .

That right there is a good beginning for a tutorial on why small business owners have had such a visceral reaction against the Pres' latest gaffe...."...you didn't build that." bill ran super stock and some pro stock . mostly 60's and 70's. also ran an Edsel . he was a hell of a man. sure do miss him. i made them shiny , he made them fast :)

Shine,it sounds like you know the system we have down here in NZ pretty well,too..Same thing happens..In fact,was talking to a young single mum,about 20 years of age,who was whining about what was going to happen to her ''income'',,and I told her she was still doing better than me..I then asked her if it was fair to sit on her ass all day,while we,the taxpayer,kept her in the manner she enjoyed,,and asked her if she would give her wages to someone who didn't WANT to work..NO,,was the answer,,so I asked her if it was fair for us to do the same..Made her think..
