How hot is it in your area, and are you drier than a pop corn fart? :CRY:

For those of us that are new, can you please list where you're from.

I'm near Des Moines Iowa and it's been over 100* every day. Last Friday on the news they said we had 10 out of 20 days so far in July that were over 100* and that was before this week. Sunday was 110*, Monday 106*, Tuesday 105*, and today rigt now it is 106*. It's supposed to break tonight around 7 and they claim we're supposed to get some rain. We need it badly too. The corn is falling over in spots, the beans look like they're ready to pick, the hay fields are bad news, and the grass looks like Arizona. I know I'm tired of smelling my self as I work 2 jobs and sweat at both. How about you guys?

Just as bad up here... Corn crop is just about done for, as are the beans. Most farmers only got one cutting of hay.... With everything else going on in this country, watch for groceries to take a huge jump in the fall due to shortages....

Yeah, the KC area is toasty, too!! Out working on the tree house for the grandkids, and the trees are bribing to dog to visit them instead of a neighbor!!

Beef will be going crazy too. I was picking up one of our semis from the body shop today and over heard a conversation between a lady that works for the Iowa Beef Council, and the shop owner. The lady told the owner that the cattle industry is so bad right now that 75% of the beef growers are selling their herds and not replenishing them. In other words, they are selling the cattle, the cattle go get slaughtered, an the farmers aren't raising any more because they can't afford to. She told him it takes 3 years to complete a life cycle from a calf to cow then to market. I know she's right there. So in other words, in 2-3 years there really could be a shortage of beef.

Well its been in the 100s here and steady 90+ since june.Farmers say there crops aren't growing, BUT the ones with irigation are fine most of the corn crops here are seed. not for eating. Heard on news cron crops are so bad the prices will be high??? How dose this work a shortage makes the price higher. A shortage (bad year the farmers get a subsidy) to make up the differance in crop production. so the price should not go up if they are subsidised right???? Gas here went up .35 yesterday because some pipe line needs repair?? Just sayin. OH by the way it rained today about an inch. now its back in the 90s

Farmer's don't get a subsidy check for drought years, multi-peril insurance is their only way to recover any of their loss... Their will be a shortage of corn, shortage of beef, shortage of pork because of the drought and bad crop yields (if any crop at all). The shortage of corn and beans will cause the price increases, not a government program or lack of it...

Well,40 ford,,I'm down in New Zealand,and right now,,its about 12*Celsius,,we have a southwesterly wind,and it's colder than an ex wife's glare..But,hey,the suns shining,and we have a blue sky,,which is better than all the rain that's been dumped on the country lately.The winds coming off the mountain,as well..We rarely get into the 90's in our province,,and humidity is almost unknown in this part of the country,(despite what the natives say):LOL:
You guys seem to be hurting in every way up there at the moment,with the temperatures,your government,,shootings,etc..Hope it all comes right for you soon..**)**)

OOps,double post..It took so long to post it,I thought it hadn't happened..

ranchers thinned their herds last year down here. hay is 85 for a round bale still. last year it was 135 . beef prices will go up when ranchers start to rebuild their herds which many have. hoping for some rains so i can at least get a fall cutting. last few years has really tarshed my pastures. i'm in a recovery mode now. trying to kill off weeds so i can sprig come spring. we had a real wet spring this year . i feel for you guys in the midwest . your getting our heat and drought right now. still in the 90's here with a 100 here and there which is normal here.

Any farmer who has crop insurance and did not plant before April 13th or 15th, will be fine. It's the lack of product that will hurt everyone like you said.

Yeah, the last few years have been crazy weather wise. From one extreme to the other winter, or summer. Hardly any fall or spring any more! I heard round bales in Arkansas were up to $150 already. Any hay guys have been selling here has been going there supposedly.

lamin8r and I live in the same province, (Taranaki,) about thirty miles apart as the crow flies, but about twice that distance by road, as there's a mountain (Mt Egmont,) in between us.

We've had rain, rain, and just for a change, more rain.

My 'inside' chores are pretty well up to date, and I'm fretting to get outside.
Although, on the plus side; I've gone through my bookshelves and re-read books I haven't read for thirty years or more.
Some good stuff too; authors that stand the test of time and write a good yarn: Rudyard Kipling, Ryder Haggard, C.S. Lewis, Mark Twain...just finished Twain's 'A Yankee at the Court of King Arthur' yesterday.
So that's all good.

Just busyness as usual for summer here in the great southwestern desert: 107 today, 106 yestiddy, forecast 108 or 9 tomorrow, humidity about 15%; has been lower, the usual is under 10%, and higher when the monsoon comes in for a visit. I feel for most of the rest of you folks with this extreme unusual weather you are having; you may be used to the humidity, but not these high temps, and the combination can be deadly. Keep as cool and hydrated as you can, hopefully this will pass in a few weeks; autumn is only a couple of months away.

Boy I should have shut up. :LOL: We had a front move through last night about 8:15pm and it did drop the temps, for a few hours. Ha Ha. Today it's only 94* but feels like 99*, so we got our humidity back. :( Oh well, keep the sweat factory a going...........
