There is no doubt there is a mental health component to this.What baffles me is while I was growing up,we didn't have all these issues or names for bad behavior.You know ADDT etc.Did I learn in-spite of a fact of reading backwards??.There where no laws about parents or teachers use of capital punishment. We as kids where afraid of our parents and teachers because as apart of our up bringing there where times we saw or was involved in having the crap beat out of us.
That fear or well really respect went well into our early 20's.I with my two grown boys remember a time when my oldest wouldn't share a toy with his brother and I was just setting in the living room listening to go on while reading a newspaper.I put down my newspaper and looked him straight in the eye and he knew that I was ticked off.In his whole life I never raised a hand to him,but you would think I have tried to kill him from the amount of tears that was rolling down his face all the way through dinner and until he was told he had to go to bed early.
A mental health issue??. Well I guess there is some of that. I know kids don't come with a handbook. But I do think we are too soft on kids today and give them way too much. Then gaming that makes killing as apart of the game entertainment and it is more and more realistic as over the yrs these games high tech as gotten better. That is not tempered by good parenting either setting parameters for the kids.
I do know there where/are exceptional high intelligent people in my classes back when I was in school and none,that's a fact,none of them ended up like what we are seeing now.
Save the paddle and spare the child??. Naw.
I sure hope you meant corporal punishment, capital punishment is a bit severe
".....But when my parents got mad,I wasn't sure they wouldn't kill me...."
:LOL::LOL:
I may be wrong or not correctly remembering things (getting old is tough LOL), but it seems to me that for the most part those of us that were raised in the 50-60s had a more disciplined upbringing. There were rules and we were expected to follow them, if not we quickly learned what consequences were and that was not a bad thing.

Mike P,,Echidna,,and all the others...100% correct..We were taught by our parents,,(who really cared about their kids),to do what was right,not answer back,expect a wallop if we stepped out of line(after a warning or two),and to RESPECT others,,(even if we didnt sometimes),,because it was your families name you were about to drag through the mud..and my folks didnt want that..
See my post #28 about Piers Morgan-----seems there is now a petition to the white house to deport him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sure would have signed that petition!!!!! Of all the new style media on the air he gets my vote for the most rude dude on the air. I refuse to even listen to the babbling idiot!!!!!
I think its one of those petitions on that gov web sight that goes direct to white house---
I really expect it to be taken down as it probably is the sight where all those petitions for the states seceeding were------------mmmmmmmmmmmm---maybe they staged this Newtown deal to take away our guns!!!!!!!!!!!
Jerry,
I would not doubt that our government or the anti gun activists would do exactly that underhanded type of thing.
In light of the most recent tragedy, I have said a prayer for the children, familys, and friends. Other than a few prayers made on behalf of members here for their own personal tragedies, I am not a very religious man. I believe strongly in God, just uneasy with people as a whole. It breaks my heart that this could happen to children of innocence. And I can tell this has taken its toll on everyone I know at some level. The men at work, my sons, my parents, and friends all seem to be in thought of this tragedy. What should be done? I don't know. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we valued each other as human beings and loved our differences. Unfortunately, we have been killing each other since the beginning of time. It's a meager existence we live for sure. We will all die at some point, what will we do with the time we have in life?
The President of the USA is doing everything he can to advoid any discussion of the nearly 500 homicides in his home town in 2012-----------
