I remember some of you guys posting about the Alton Drags.
I never made it over there before it closed even though I live and grew up 45 minutes from there.:mad: I stumbled across the Alton Dragway facebook page. Lots of WAY KEWL stuff on there. Looks like it is run by the guy who lived and was raised @ the track !

I had 3 cousins that ran there in the mid 60's. I was to young for them to be seen with.:D And by the time Pops loosened my leash the joint had closed.:( I guess about 1971 was when it shut down.
don't remember when it shut down--can't keep all them straight--Alton,Oswego, US 30 Indiana, Lions, OCIR,Irindale,Ontario<Riverside<Fremont,etc,etc,etc
One of my older brothers was in the Air Force, stationed at Scott AFB in the mid 60's... Dad and I went for a visit one summer on our way home (in a round-about way) from the Indy 500. Went to Alton for the drags with my brother while we were there! At the time my brother was a young, single 1st Lt. running a '64 Galaxie with a 406 and a 4 speed. I do remember he got runner up in Super Stock Eliminator that day!!!!!!
