Second opinions

It just shy of a yr when all the health issues reared it's ugly head. I fired my primary care doctor mainly because we didn't share the same goals. Yesterday I went threw a MRI of my spine. Actually I was in there for a very tough 2 hrs. I called the new primary care doctor because of sore tongue and they fit me in to see him.While there he tells me he has the results of the MRI.Pretty damm good the next day. We finally found it.The MRI shows the holes in my spine where the nerves branch off closing up and could explain the multi issues I have been living with. He gave me a name of a neural surgeon for a console.The surgeon can't see until march and the same for the pain clinic,but atleast I now know why.

So atleast we finally found it.

The second part of this post is do not accept doctors advise at face value.Second opinions matter.

Good advice Gary. We came close to losing my mom a couple of years ago because the family Dr (who was getting ready to retire) mis-diagnosed her.

The bad thing was mom had almost gotten to the point she almost didn't care due to the pain she was in. A new Dr with a correct diagnosis and proper medication and she has been doing fine.

Been there, Gary, and trying to lay flat and 'perfectly' still with an aching back isn't the easiest thing one will ever try and do. Second opinions are a very good option that some don't use but it sure looks like you're on the way to some "explanation" and hopefully recovery. However, I do have a problem with surgeons and clinics that make a person who is in pain or sick to wait that long before their first visit and that would cause me to probably search for a "third opinion" - - - - whatever you decide I wish you the best with this because living with chronic back pain can wear on you tremendously.

I complained to the orthopedic Doc I've been going to for years about chronic back pain once..... His answer was, "Don't blame me, I'm not the one who broke it twice!":LOL::LOL: Had to sign a release for him once so he was allowed to use some of my X-Rays and surgery reports in classes that he taught at Med School. Told me that he always closed that session with, "Believe it or not, this guy can still walk!" :LOL::LOL::LOL:

His son is now the Orthopedic Doc I go to, sez his Dad used to refer to me as the "crazy dude who recovered from a broken back received in a helicopter crash by racing Sprint Cars". Hmmmmm, wonder what he meant by that??:whacked:??

My primary care Doc a couple years ago told me that I was in great shape for someone my age, then asked, "You are 90 now, aren't you?"

My point is this, don't be afraid to get a 2nd opinion, but when you find Dr's. who actually know and understand you, stick with them whether they tell you the things you want to hear or not!!!!!

And remember that 50% of them were in the bottom half of there class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, and after all, they're just PRACTICING medicine!!!!

It's not so much pain but numbness that is spreading through out parts of my body.Of course to lay flat for as long time like during the MRI gets to be painful.What got the first primary care doctor fired was a yr of things going wrong and instead of finding out why just another pill to mask it.In a yr i went from taking nothing to a side table full of bottles.Enough was enough.I'll wait for the surgeon.He is the best there is in Roch,NY.The pain clinic I'll call them back early part of next wk.I am a turning patient needing follow up and shouldn't have to wait until March to be seen.
