Kiwis on Route 66

600 miles is a nice drive for a day, IF you got started early and you can do 70mph. Don't blame them for stopping cause there is a lot to see on RT66 from St Louis into Kansas and the speed limit is about 55mph. I would have done the same depending on how far I was to my destination. Did a couple 17hr drives when the son came home from overseas, talk about a ball busting, back breaking hard ride. Nothing I look forward to do again & thankfully the kid is back home in the states for good.

Now I just have to figure out how to hang this NZ calender , does it go upside down?????

Not sure of their departure, but after a 2 hour notice they pulled in here about ten minutes ago, so they didn't do 55 all the way from St Louis!!

Same here and if they are still around Sunday I have to be in Raymore at noon, maybe we can meet up.

At this point we're planning to be down at Ottawa Sunday until mid to late afternoon, then heading back to Gardner. Not sure what your plans are but maybe we could meet somewhere, or you can swing over to the Gardner area? I'll PM you my phone number & address.

jb & I hit the Ottawa show early Saturday, and the ladies joined us about mid-day with a bit of trouble finding us in almost 2000 registered cars this year!! He & I went back Sunday and it was a much more laid back setting, with maybe half of the cars back, much, much less congestion on the ring road, and lots less people wandering around. A great show! On the way out of town we hooked up with Ken, NTFDAY, for a short visit and to "put faces with names". He was up in Raymore, a KC suburb, and diverted his return to meet us as we were leaving Ottawa.
Today I've managed a visit to Dean Weller's "Grandpa's Garage" in DeSoto (not normally open to the public on any regular schedule), and then to see a private collection of a retired car dealer I know who has a wide range of vehicles in a museum quality setting. Tomorrow is back to Route 66, heading to Oklahoma to visit with people who rode their bus back in the '50's & 60's for a few days, then following the great migration to California!!

I enjoyed the visit and yes it was nice to faces on names, wish I could have made the show in Ottawa. From what I saw of cars heading in the other direction it was a great show. BTW, Roger's 33 looks better in person.

Wow hope you had a great trip. Missed this thread until now, site seems to be down lately when I log on.

What's that brew you guys are drinking there,John?? Must taste the same as Lion Brown,does it?? ;);)..All these collections sound kool.. Hope you have a seriously large battery in the camera... Kool..:cool::cool:

That brew was Dark Truth by the local Boulevard Brewing Company at 9.8% alcohol content. We also sampled a nice Bourbon Barrel Quad from Boulevard which clocks at 11.4%! Both do the job....

Today we visited Grandpa's Garage, and Dean gave us 2 hours of his time for a totally delightful walk-a-bout of his garage. Next we stopped by the private collection of 32 cars and about that many antique pedal cars, and finished with a friends garage with a '32 Vicky, '32 3W Coupe, '65 Falcon Sprint, two '57 'Birds, and a 2002 'Bird that was the first of the "new 'Birds" in KC and has less than 1500 miles on the clock. All in all a very good day. Tomorrow will see us wishing jb & Rosie safe travels to Oklahoma and points beyond.

Glad to see they're having loads of fun along the way.

This morning I escorted jb & Rosie to the on-ramp of I35S. Since they're swapping rental cars in Oklahoma City to have more room for another couple, they decided to shoot straight down I35 vs heading down towards Joplin, MO and doing that section of Route 66, so they've opted out of the piece from St Louis to OKC which is an excuse for another trip in the future!! Actually they did the whole thing several years back, driving LA to Chicago and back to LA in three weeks!! Not much spare time for sights on that trip....

Great to see CHR members meeting up, especially with our Down Under members. Whats not to enjoy, beer and hot rods, Route 66 - Much Fun!
