Preparing for winter--------

Since I have a roadster with no heater, to prepare for winter I'm buying a set of nice warm long johns to add to my "layers". The johns, plus sweat pants and shirt, plus jeans and another shirt or sweater, plus a hoody, then covered by my warm jacket, and wearing two pair of gloves, two pair of warm socks, and lined low boots. That's what I was wearing when I drove 2 hours north of here last winter a couple weeks before Christmas to a Toys for Tots hot rod meet. Looking forward to doing it again this year since it's a good cause and an exhilarating ride, as long as you ignore the people who think you're plum crazy.

Not quite that way Roger---------After selling the big shop a few years ago, I brought all the engine /shop machinery back to my home shop and have had cars and other stuff in storage faciulty for years now-----------as I am getting older I want to finish some of the things for me and Robin----------I have studied the lay out of the shop equip and with some re arrangement will gain room for vehicles instead of build carts------also, since I'm not racing myself, (the reason I got the engine equip) I only have a few that I want to do for our stuff( a hemi, flathead, blown cobra Bonneville engine((maybe a spare one of these)) )
so I have decided to sell off the engine only stuff so we don't have to move it south--------leaving the lathe,mills,saws,welders,etc---all of these fit around the walls instead of a central shop footprint(bigfoot) and I can get 8 cars in with run to work------And stop paying storage $$$$$$$$$$$$, but I do get a volume discount as I have several units----


And I won't be buying engines from anyone ----maybe paying another guy to spin my balance jobs after Ido the bob weights, etc or let me use his CK10 hone to hone some cylinders that have my torque plates and fasteners------


And I am looking forward to cutting down the many different welding rod alloys that I have to maybe a half dozen or so but the amount of scrap metal ain't going anywhere-----

Well, it sounds like you have the plan. I was probably the only one who didn't understand your earlier explanation/question. :o**)

I'd love to have a mill and lathe and a bunch other stuff. In due time I suppose. :LOL:

My lathe is an early 1940s era Pratt & Whitney off an early WW2 warship------------------around 70 years old now---no CNC or metric stuff anywhere------------

Best kind!! Who needs CNC if you're not doing production runs of 1000's of parts??

Oh-I forgot to mention that we had SNOW flakes today for a couple hours--no build up as it melted as it hit but being a loud mouth about it will probable have a foot by morning---------------


Now got to go to a meeting about a 3 million dollar 1.6 mile bike path-----------------

I have to pull everything out of the shed, and bring the snowblowers to the front, and put the tractors in the back.. I have a blade to fit my LX188 John Deere but I have never mounted it since the walk behind snow blowers work just fine.

I put in a new hot air heater a few years ago and last year upgraded the windows to double pane. Had the heater cleaned and tuned up a week ago and the shop will be nice and warm when I want to work out there.
As far as the car goes................I have those race ramp stands that cradle the tires and keep the car a foot off the ground. That way I have access to do anything under the car and it is much more steady then having it on 4 jack stands.

well I got Robins 33 and the cobra into the shop last nite but the 33 is still aprox 50 feet from where the tig cables will reach for doing the headers and under neath exhaust----Cobra wanted to run over the John Deere 455 on the sloped part of the back yard so we ended up putting strap thru the front wheel so that one tire slid (brakes/) and just pulled it around from to the concrete drive---------I hurt all over this morning--

We are still using the cooler during the late afternoons... but the temps are supposed to drop to the high seventies in a week or two.

I grew up about a hundred miles south of Chicago, but mine and my wife's family fled the cold weather in the early seventies. I followed with my wife and kids in '75! I was in my mid twenties by then, but I've had enough sledding, ice skating, snowmen, shoveling... and RUST... for one lifetime! :-)~
