Ahhh, I agree with you on that point. The old carriers looked so cool compared to the ones I see now adays.

Yeah, those old car carriers had the cars on top totally exposed, and riding high. We lived in the little town of Noel, MO when I was a kid, and at the time Highway 71 ran by town along the river, a narrow two lane roadway, and there's a bluff that hangs over the highway right at Noel. If you're headed south, that lane has considerably lower clearance than the northbound lane, and it was not unusual for a truck driver that was not familiar with the road to scrape the tops of the cars riding that top position - at night sparks would fly if you happened to be in the right place at the right time;). This picture is looking north, years before they put a guard rail on the river side.

WOW! Do you know if it is still like that? With the overhang I mean.. That has a "fantastic" look about it.. certainly not something you see everyday.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the reply Edward G. P.! Good to see your post and hope you have a great holiday!
Since I'm looking forward to having a hangover soon after belting down a few bloody mary's, I thought I'd post a local hangover ...errr I mean over hang.
This one is a couple miles from my home along Gulph Road in Lower Merion Township, and let me go on record to say I'm pissed about how they ruined a historic rock just so stupid people don't crash into it. I figure pretty soon some assinine committee is going to remove the Statue of Liberty's right arm since it might get in the way of low flying aircraft or birds:

It's the same the whole world over . . . and 'they' (the nameless faceless bureaucrats,) have the temerity to call it 'progress'.(!?!?)
