Kansas Legislation

This only applies to guys & gals from Kansas, but there's a new piece of legislation that will be discussed by a Kansas House Committee January 21st that would give counties the right to declare any inoperable vehicle a "nuisance", subject to being hauled away even if it is not in public view, sitting on private property. There are lots of things wrong with this approach, highlighted in this SEMA SAN release - Kansas Anti-Hobbyist Inoperable Vehicle Bill to be Considered by Committee on January 21, 2014

If you're not a member of the SAN I urge you to join. It's easy to register your name and e-mail, costs you nothing, and they will keep you informed of proposed changes in legislation across the country. There's noting wrong with being informed, and if you have good representatives they will appreciate having experienced guidance on their side.

Sounds like the Kansas legislature is really running low on real issues to address. A public eyesore is one thing, but out of sight on private property??? Who the heck is going to be snooping around on private property to see the cars? I'd make sure to leave the dog out the day they're around!!!!

There's no way of knowing how such a law would be enforced, but any law enacted needs to be crystal clear in both definition and intent. This one is neither. I sent a blanket letter to all of the committee members asking that they oppose the Bill, and explaining why. We'll see....

They don't want anything to muddle the views from the yellow brick roads!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm allowed up to five 'dead' cars on my frontage before the local council can force me to move them.
So I leave three there.
My next door neighbour's father-in-law is a councillor . . . and every time he drives past it drives him nuts!

Ha...that's a giggle.. They will only be seen by about 10 people who live up your road,,who go past every day.. It's not as if you live in town..:eek::eek: In fact,,several years back,,I went to the end of your road,,and I heard banjos playing,John..I wouldn't have thought the NPDC even KNEW about your road..

I'd be surprised too if the New Plymouth District Council knew of our road; we're in the South Taranaki District Council area.
It's all STDC from just south of the Stoney River . . . about twelve miles away!

It's crazy the things the government comes up with to avoid dealing with the real problems this country has. If Iowa does this, I'd be losing some projects. :LOL:
