Cell phone caution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A few words of wonderment--------------


At night I put my cell phone on the night stand by my bed and recharge it there overnight.


Last night-----------I woke up with a severe burning in my nose---no smells or oder---went to bathroom , spit, blew my nose,etc---------I was able to breath thru my mouth with no problem but thru my nose caused a severe burn----------went back to bed and now the phone was lit up---had the night sky app on (which we were looking at moon,stars,planets getting ready for th e eclipse tonight and evidently the thing hadn't shut down------------




Anyway------the word of caution----phone was very warm (not exactly hot) and I think the litionion ? batt was giving off some fumes that were caustic to my nasal tissues---I sleep on my side toward the nite stand-------I moved phone to kitchen and removed the HOT battery-------


Just a word of caution to alert---maybe some others have had similar deals??

In todays world we seldom know where harm is coming from until it is too late.

theres been two house fires here in nz attributed to cell phone charger's overheating and starting the fire!!
we never leave ours going unattended!

Two that you know of,Mark?? I wonder how many more there have been.. Because my phone lives in my pocket most of the time,,I have always charged my phone at night,,for convenience..Might just have to change that habit.. Getting paranoid now... :(

Here's another cautionary tale!

Some friends of ours have had two house fires; both were traced to a malfunctioning electric kettle.
They caught the first one in time, and damage was minimal; but the second one destroyed their home.
We now ensure that our kettle is turned off at the wall.

Electric coffee (or tea) pot.

i got into the habit of unplugging all zombies a long time ago . anything with a light or clock . i also shut down the hot water heater during the day .
i have a charger in the shop for my phone. i use the phone for music so i plug it in . keeps the battery charged and is fully charged at the end of the day plus i have the smart chargers that shut off .. our laptops are the scariest thing i own. those suckers get hot !

The comments have drifted toward the heat, but the thing I wanted to point out was the vapors that I breathed burn the nasal linings of my nose pretty bad----------I sleep on my left side most of the time and that's toward the nite stand where my phone was-----it now is back in the bath room on the sink at night---------------

I had been noticing my charger gets pretty warm to the touch some times, & it gota bad smell to it, kinda like melting plastic. Got a new one recently.
Now it only happens when I use a certain outlet. Other wise no issue.

OK, I kinda suspected that but "our kettle is turned off at the wall" had me wondering - - - we just say "unplugged the coffee pot" ! Must be the accent, eh? lol

Just got a new phone from FedEx about an hour ago. Birthday present for Cheryl tomorrow. I'll have to read the (de)structions to see if there's a warning about battery emissions. I usually charge mine with a USB cable plugged into the computer. I have a USB cord in the console of the truck & if my trip is more than 15-20 minutes I can charge it on the road.

the fumes can be toxic alright . we had an old man across the road that burned his trash in a pit . it would light up your nose and throat bad . in the early days of plastic many a firefighter died because of it .

plastic is petroleum based, so for sure, fumes are no good
