Must be a bit chilly up that-a-way too, most of the officials and crew guys are wearing jackets!
Again with the odd weather huh?
This year, NASCAR should change sponsors from Sprint to Rain-X
I'm watchin' the replay of qualifying now...
Still can't believe Carl won't be with Rousch next season.. sigh...
Yeah, kind of surprised me too.... Guess it's just time for him to move on, seems to be stuck in a rut at Rousch.
But hey!!!! Mark Martin is back with the Cat in the Hat Gang as driver development instructor!!!! Who could possibly be a better man for the job?
I hadn't seen the announcement about Mark.. that's a sweet deal for sure. One of my favorite drivers of all time and respected by all who drove/raced against him.
Yeah, it was a surprise to see Carl not re-up, but then he probably thinks that he can do what Kenseth did and improve his chances. Makes it look like things just aren't quite right within the Rousch organization.
I agree, Rousch hasn't been in step for a few to many years now. They set the standard once upon a time with 5 teams.. now they can barely support 3 and can only run mid pack! So no-one can blame Carl I guess, maybe he can parlay a championship with a new team.?.?
I wonder where he goes??
As is often the case it comes down to sponsorship. Part of what drove Roush down was the loss of sponsors. Does Carl take Subway, Fastenal, others with him?
If so, then I'd say look at a successful team that has room to grow. Penske? Carl has been tied at the hip to Ford, so that seems the most logical choice since it's "only" a two car team. But Penske is a thoughtful manager, does he want more than two? That leaves Petty in the realistic Ford camp, but can they handle another team? They haven't shown much management skill to support that. Gibbs? They could grow to another team, but again, do they want to? No room at Hendricks, Stewart-Haas. RCR seems to be struggling much like Roush, and sponsors have been, well, let's say, not knocking down their door. Ganassi............don't think so. The only other team with enough size/backing I can think of is Waltrip. They've been struggling for sponsors as well, but may still have help from Toyota. Maybe?
Betcha Cousin Carl winds up with the coach driving a Toyota!!!!
Nationwide practice and qualifying (they're in Iowa today) is starting on ESPN now if anyone is interested.
Matt had a career year last year, all the stars aligned, Toyota got their engines to stay together, and luck really went with the Toyota's..... However this year seems to be the year for the Hendrick's cars......
Didja see Hamlins crew "goofed"? Well.... only cause they got caught!:LOL::LOL:
It's only cheating if you get caught!!!!
I NEVER used that word!!! roflmao..
Ok, ok......How about a creative interpretation of the rules that seemed to be contrary to the interpretation of NASCAR officials?;);)
Many moons ago in SCCA racing, the rules didn't say that Nitrous Oxide was illegal, so therefore it must be ok to use it, right?????
Yes, a loose interpretation works well.. Nascar "is" a bit strict with this body after all.
So they didn't like you using nitrous? Bunch of sticklers for details eh?
Yeah, they took our points for the YEAR and DQ'd us for the remainder of the season. But, when the new rule book came out it clearly stated that nitrous was a no-no. We were just a bunch of poor broke farmers that went and raced SCCA a few times a summer and didn't have enough points to even matter so it was really no big deal that we lost them-----which of course was part of the rationale for putting nitrous in the car in the first place!!!!!!:LOL::LOL::LOL:
BTW, my little '67 Fastback with the sbf could pull anybody by a couple car lengths coming out of a low to medium speed corner!!!! Neat system! Ran it off an MSD rpm switch, came on at 3500 rpm, off at 6500 rpm!!!!! Down legs and dash bar off the cage was the "bottle"... I thought we would at least get an award for innovation!!!!:LOL:
Trevor Bayne (Mark Martin's old #6 Rousch team) got the pole for the Nationwide race tonight in Iowa!!!! Points championship in Nationwide could get real interesting this year if he wins it!
I guess the sanctioning body (no matter which one) takes a dim view on a car with an edge over the competition... but only if you get caught!
Has Trevor done anything but get seat time this year??? Don't get me wrong I like the guy.. Just thought he'd be "doing more" each week.
IMO Trevor is being a bit too cautious this year, seems the lesson Ricky Stenhouse had to learn wasn't wasted on the Rousch Developmental Drivers!!!!!
Perhaps you're right... He has the talent but he seems to lag back in the pack never getting to the front. He has some good runs here and there but never seems to put it together. Maybe it's the whole team?? In any event, I hope they snag at least one win this year.
I'm sure they all remember when Ricky got sent down to the minors when he first got to Nationwide and made a habit of trying to run over other cars and knock all the walls down!!! Rousch is like all the other teams with the decreases in sponsorship and funding, cars have to last a bit longer.... In the ARCA races these days, all the Rousch and driver's from other teams are using the old Nationwide team cars..... Caught a couple K&N series races this year, majority of the cars had their first life as NASCAR cup cars! Not too many years ago these were usually brand new cars for the teams sponsored by the NASCAR big league teams.... Money is tight all over...
PS--I need to quit looking on Racing Junk at old Nationwide cars and wondering how the would work as a Late Model asphalt car!!! Friend of mine has a grandson that would really look good in one of them!!!!!!
Race already started not home yet.$^*^$%.
Did anyone catch the save Bad Brad made???? Dirt tracked the thing through the turn!!! What a save, that one should make the highlights reel!
Well, Jimmie Johnson is out, 48 laps to go and it looks like first to the checkers is up for grabs!!!!! I'd sure love to make a few laps around Pocono, looks like it's the kind of place that demands the best in both car and driver.... Hard to figure it out in the single dimension that the tube presents, might just have to put Pocono on my Bucket list!!!!!
they used to shift gears on that track--don't know if they still do or not
Yup, at the tunnel turn. 4th to 3rd, then back to 4th. NASCAR cut the shifting out for a number of years, then about 4 or 5 years back when they put drivers back into the equation the shifting at the tunnel turn came back also. Two years ago NASCAR took some gear away from them trying to get the speeds down a bit, but that long front straight is still good for 200mph, and 170+ into Turn 1!
Nasty one!!! They tried to make Pocono wrecks look like Daytona wrecks----13 cars out!
And Tony ended up on top.. of another car!
Earnhardt gets it, drove a great race!!! That's 3 for him, maybe this could be his year for a championship??????
Maybe??? It would be good to see it happen!
And Joey Lagano comes in 3rd too!
Jr. gave a great interview at the end... Its a team thing
Yes he did!
And the Biff gets a top 5. That was another gamble by the crew chief that paid off.
Pocono always rewards the team who's Crew Chief makes the smartest gamble, a real strategy race. Pitting and fuel stops get planned out more like you would on a road course then a Super Speedway!!!!
Oh, and Jimmie Johnson had ZERO luck today!
Don't forget, drag racing at 7 on espn! I have to go out with the family but I'm trying hard to get home by then!
Hey!!! Indy car racing on NBC SN if you need something to fill in the time till NHRA comes on!!!!!!!!!
