Saw this pop up on FB, and while I thought I had heard, and probably memorized the words to every Hot Rod/Muscle Car song of the era, this one blew by me! I'd never heard this "classic" until today....

Thanks for posting that link Roger as I have a couple of their records hidden away somewhere but hadn't heard that one either. A good group from the '60's early '70's.
Cute.....................reminded me I hadn't heard anyone use the "porcupine" nomenclature for these BBC in a long time...............guess ya had to be there at the time to get it.
I think the group signed on with GM and must have done any song that had a GM name in it. The SS396 tune was kind of lame compared to Little Deuce Coupe, 409, Hey Little Cobra and others but that Corvair piece that Mike posted really stinks! Saw a note about the group doing a TV promotional piece on the GTO Judge in '69 and it's a stinker, too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEsOp0IuB1M
After the first couple bars I wondered if the same guy who wrote "Hey Little Cobra" wrote this one...........
The rocker studs weren't lined up in a soldier row like other engines of the time (valves were staggered angles) so some said it resembled a porcupine. Of course, if you really want to hear the b.s. roll open the discussion about mouse, rat, elephant.................
