all gave some , some gave all , some just don't care .

Somebody needed to put a boot in his ass.

Excuse my Kiwi ignorance Jerry, but flight 93 was 'The Flight That Fought Back' during the Twin Towers incident wasn't it?
And Jerry we had the same problem (only worse,) when we went to see the Liberty Bell. Japanese tourists were five deep around it!
There were three tourist buses parked outside, and there were more coming in behind us.
But at least we could say we'd seen it.
...and Japanese tourists must be the most ignorant in the world. You can be standing in front of a plaque, obviously reading it, and they'll come and stand directly in front of you. But they do understand Kiwi English. A loud "F*** OFF!" and a glare moves them.
Yep------passengers fought back-they knew they had no chance of surviving but wanted the terrorists/hijackers to not be able to complete there plan-Its reported the plane hit at 593 (airspeed is displayed in knots in the plane) and it was probably pretty vertical to get that fast---------
yes , some of the bus tour people are pretty rude to other people--
The Japanese people have lots of photos of eveything in the world with someone standing in the pic next to the photographed subject material-they don't need any far off sat photos, they got everything up close in macro-----
Never mind....just havin' a bad day.

We do have those from time to time Tech, hope it getting better.
.
Start by enforcing ALL the Laws of the Land. To the letter. US Government Laws prevail over the States. The States prevail over the Cities and so on.
Prosecute law breakers equally. Be it a private citizen or a high ranking Government Official.
Enforce laws literally as they were written and intended. No more sanctuary Cities or States. See line one. Enforce all the laws of the land.
Folks, I've let this thread stay open for quite some time, but do not like the "tone" that it has taken the last few days.
Without pointing to one particular member, I will state the following:
"you want to push buttons, this is not the topic, or the web forum to do so, you have been banned elsewhere, do you want that here as well"
Enough said
Mr.Trump did have a better speech today after last night's deadly unfortunate incidence.
now is the time to stop and say a prayer for all involved in Vegas . even those ho survived will be haunted for years over this.
it's not a gun thing . it is dealing with evil and sadly there will be more to come .
worst is all the fake news that came out immediately . i deactivated my fb account because it was so full of bs fake news . sad that there are no honorable journalist left today .
Evolvo if you want to live in a gun free society I suggest that you try N Korea, England, Germany, France or any number of nations that have strict gun laws. Furthermore I suggest you google Switzerland and after reading about their attitude towards gun ownership you return here and explain to all of us why their system works so well.
I just started reading this thread, and am heartened that most of us can discuss topics non politically for the most part. Jerry Thank you. I will also say I only got to page three with my morning coffee, so I may have missed stuff! Bill as always stepping in is a good reminder to go back and read the very first post and respect it!
The thing is, fully automatic weapons are already illegal. Making them illegal twice won't fix anything. That would be like putting up 2 stop signs for people who keep disregarding the first stop sign. It's the people that are crazy. Maybe we should teach that human life has value and isn't just a random Cosmic coincidence. Perhaps then people will think differently. We should start treating the problem and not the symptoms of the problem.
The anti gun people need to get it through their heads......................... It isn't a gun control problem....... It's an evil person/psycho person issue. Even if you ban all fire arms to US Citizens, this will not stop nasty horrid events like this one! The dirt bags/evil people wanting to inflict harm will get the tools they need some where else. Just research shootings in Chicago and find out how many of the guns there used in these shootings were obtained legally.
Another thing. If the government bans fire arms and dirt bags start using cars and trucks to drive through the crowds, are you going to take away my cars and trucks?
Like it has already been said, there is a lot of fear instilled in a lot of people because of this shooting. My thoughts and prayers go out to families and friends of all involved.
ignore him guys or bill will have to shut down the thread. i'll pray anyway .
No political statement, just facts:
1. Not all fully automatic weapons are illegal. However, it is illegal for any private civilian to own any fully automatic weapons manufactured after May 19, 1986.
2. CA, DE, DC, HI, IL, MA, MN, NJ, RI, WA, WI do not allow fully automatic weapons. The rest do.
3. In the states that do allow fully automatic weapons, they are tightly regulated - first by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF), then by the states. Without the BATF license, you can't buy one, even if the state allows it. BATF requires a thorough background check, fingerprints, photographs, passport photo, approval by your local police chief, and a 12-page form. Typically, BATF THOROUGHLY investigates the buyer and seller and slow-walks the application process.
I stand corrected. I'm going to go to a side I usually don't go to on this sort of argument but I'm going to say all fully automatic weapons should be banned. There's just no need for it.
Post by accident, and deleted.
I think I'm going to take a shine's advise on this thread. Usually on these topics your just preaching to the choir or trying to change somebody's mind that will not change. You got appreciate the passion on both sides, but I do feel one side is more correct than the other.
talked with a guy at a car show that had a restored military jeep complete with the 50 cal machine gun on it. he said he had to be in full control at all times. never leave it. when he went to lunch there was a state trooper who stood by it until he returned. he was a collector and said he was under all kinds of scrutiny with all his weapons and was subject to inspection at any time.
Google doesn't always know everything. The Las Vegas sheriff stated today that he was not aware of any weapons that are fully automatic, but a couple had a bump stock. Reporters/talking heads with no knowledge of firearms use the term 'automatic' (many shots with one trigger pull, or 'machine guns' in the vernacular) for weapons that are actually semi-automatic (one shot with one trigger pull).
Tick, tick, tick, does anyone else hear something
Now, just think about it for a minute. If guns were outlawed and nobody had access to them, do you think that this nutball in Las Vegas might have used industrial strength slingshots to deliver hand grenades into the crowd? Or poison gas cannisters? Mass murders are going to occur no matter the delivery system. I read recently about a Chinese man who strode into a schoolroom and killed 11 schoolchildren with a butcher knife. He used a butcher knife because guns are outlawed in China. What do you think the government should do next? Outlaw knives? After knives are outlawed, someone will take multiple lives with a piece of lumber. Do we then outlaw lumber? Anyone who wants to take the lives of others will always find a way. It's not about the delivery system, it's about the mental condition of the perpetrators. As long as there are human beings on this planet, there will be mass murders because we are a deeply flawed species.
Gun control advocates like to point to Australia as an example of gun control that worked. Well, one thing is for sure, it has worked well for those who would take advantage of a disarmed public, to wit:
Armed robbery up 69%
Assaults with guns up 28%
Gun murders up 19%
Home invasions up 21%
Which takes us back to this: When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

Someone brought up the no fly list. On the face of it, that sounds like a good idea, but it's not without it's problems.
First, I don't think it would have made one bit of difference in this case. This guy had apparently flown under the radar all his life. I'm not even sure it would have made any difference in any of the recent cases, including those that involved people with Islamic leanings. So how can it be considered a solution? What does it really achieve? Making us feel good isn't a reason to deprive people of their rights.
Second, who decides who goes on the no fly list? What happens if your name turns up, even if by mistake? Suppose there are 2 people with the same name and the wrong one gets reported. How do you get off the list if you don't belong there? There should at the very least be well defined criteria to get on the list and very pro-citizen friendly way to get off if you don't fit the criteria.
These types of "catch word solutions" can cause problems of their own. That's the main reason pro-gun groups like the NRA have opposed the no fly list rules. You are basically guilty until you prove your innocence and that goes against everything our constitution is supposed to stand for. To my knowledge, no bills have completely addressed the issues I have brought up. It could cost you many thousands of dollars in legal fees to get back a right that should never have been taken from you in the first place. Since it's just about impossible to sue the government , you will never get that money back.
The various media outlets like to shout that pro gun groups don't want common sense laws, but they don't seem to want to report the reasons or they gloss over them as being non-issues. As if the government can be trusted not to ever do anything out of malice or make a mistake.
Chicago weekend--------a city with very strick gun laws-------9 dead, 54 wounded, 7 people in a drive by traffic incident
NO FLY list----------when flying, the crew is notified of armed people on the flight, people escorting prisoners, etc, and later years SKY MARSHALS------One of my flights had 16 sky marshals---------don't have any idea why------if they were protecting some people or there to defend against a group?????
i have no interest in owning a full auto . my ruger 223 is fine. why would i ever need a 30 round mag ????? not long ago i went into the woods to find dead trees to take down for firewood only to run up on a large group of hogs. did not have a gun with me but was able to avoid them . a 400 lb sow will charge a 2000 lb bull if she has a group of young with her . i carry my rifle at all times now with a 30 round mag in it and will until the hogs clear out some. even then it is hard to take down a large boar with it .
I seem to remember that in boot camp we were informed that by filing down the sear an M1 could be made to fire automatic. The problem was that it only held an 8 round clip and would have been partial to jamming. When the M14 was introduced it had a provision for a selector switch that would make it automatic and the M16 also has that feature and DennyW is more knowledgeable on the M16 than I am.
To put it bluntly many people can't handle a fully automatic rifle of 30 caliber or better because of the recoil. Take for instance a BAR or Thompson in the hands of many it wouldn't be long before they're shooting at the moon. Been there, done that.
Doesn't the M16 shoot bursts of 3 shots????
Denny I have purchased an Springfield M1a which is really just a M14 without the bayonet mount-someday we need to meet up and see if that will fit my rifle-
It looks just like that except for bayonet mount
I don't know if any of you caught on any news broad cast," the words" this is the "worst single person mass killing since the 1930's?" Evidently back then a man was really upset by his taxes being raised to support schools, so for the next year he planned and made bombs he hid at the local school(s?) until he finally killed a huge number of individuals setting them off, as people tried to get him he fired a round into his car and blew them and himself up!
Probably non of us have heard this story or any other non recent stories. It doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I'm afraid that between terrorists , outlaws and mentaly ill people stories will only continue as our society devolves. I am extremely saddened that anyone would just randomly plan and execute an attack like Las Vegas, on any scale to kill people for as yet no apparent reason. It seems the media continues to feed on extremism, which seems to fuel ill people to jump into the bandwagon and try to one up the last horror any way they can.
A coworker was talking with me about the shooting and pointing out the no guns no crime theory. I told her I grew up spending summers on my grandma's farm. I learned to shoot .22 rifles in boy scouts, went thru firearm safety programs and hunter safety , by time I was 12 or 13 I had my own .22. I was picked on in Junior High by a couple of Bullies. I owned a .22. NEVER and I mean NEVER did I ever think I could use my gun to solve this problem. The way I was raised with the value systems my family gave me, just never even made an idea of killing some one with a gun, a thought in my head.
Education , value systems, respect, and work ethics go a long way in shaping us to whom we become.
I am saddened where we are and where we are headed, but firmly believe responsibitlity starts at birth and at home.
I would hope that by reducing negative media and promoting news for good things people do and are capable of, maybe we can shift back attention for positive acts and not negative acts.
Yep, it won't fit-I was just dreaming-also don't want to talk much about what guns I have because I don't want FBI/CIA around here searching thru my stuff---
