car starting problem! help

hey , i recently had just boughten a 1984 pontiac trans am, i was told the battery was recently charged before i had bought it, it started up evrey time for about 5 days or so.. then i let it sit for 3 days and when i tryed to start it up it gave me that " click-click-click-click-click-click" noise..... i had tryed a couple more times then eventully i never even got the click, ... now i get abousloutly NOTHING when i turn the key, did something break? or is this still the effect of a dead battery ?

Put a volt meter across the batter, a good battery puts out 12.8 volts. If it less Check the electrolyte level in the battery, it should be just below the holes. Charge the battery for a while, and check voltage again. If voltage doesn't get above 12, get a new battery. Clean the battery posts and cables. It may look clean, but that doesn't mean it conducts electricity. If none of this works, I would start looking at the solenoid and starter.

try a known good bat. and check the alt. if it starts and charges its the battery. unless you have a short... elec. seats, dome light, under hood light, ect, ect.

my friend's fairmont did the same thing, only that it wasn't the batt. the cable going from the solenoid to the starter was frayed and shorting itself to the frame, (check the cables too) also, the starter didn't even click or a click from the solenoid, so the solenoid was bad too(check solenoid) after that it started right up. so tally it all up, while checking the batt, check everything going from it to the starter, a simple thing can be the problem.
