Yeah I am waiting for you to park the Lexus and START the project again. :p heh
maybe he got to much sun done there over the week end
Sun? Sun tan? I think he was going to get his teeth whitened but got a tan instead.... (someone here should know where that is comming from) :D
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Huh? Yeah, I guess I have been napping for a while on it, haven't I? Thanks Charlie for thinking about me anyways.
Actually, I am ready to start tonight because I loaded up at Daytona with most of the parts I need to keep moving. I got a Lokar shifter (my homemade one will become an anchor), got my distributor, aluminum intake, Edelbrock carb, 4 spoke steering wheel, and some other stuff. I wanted a tripower intake, but found out Edelbrock doesn't really have one out yet for the Vortec, so a four barrel will have to work until they do.
I also simplified my future somewhat, because I got rid of one of my project cars. I have had a Total Performance car sitting for two years, waiting to be put together, and decided to give it to my other Son, Don. He went to Daytona looking for something and couldn't find a project that interested him, so we started talking, and I told him I would give him a great price on the TP kit. Then I thought about it some more and told him it was his Christmas present if he wanted it. That is what we are doing, so part of my shopping is done. :3dSMILE:
Of course, Dan has gotten involved, and doesn't like the way the frame is done, so he is going to redo the front perch. He can't leave anything alone, and even though we protested, he snuck over to the TP tent and ordered a new crossmember and perch. So I guess the frame is going to get changed a little.
Don has decided to use the 306 Ford engine he was building for his drag Capri, and back it up with a C-4. A complete Ford drivetrain will be a nice change in a bucket, and it should scoot pretty well.
So, that is where we stand right now, and tonight I plan to help him mock up his T, and start playing with my new toys. Should be able to post some pictures again.
Thanks again for kicking me in the butt.
Don
PS: Yep, top of my head is pretty burned, and boy am I sore from all that walking. Can't wait to do it all over again next year.
That's OK DAD  how about that old car in the corner?????

Don, I sure hope you plan to let us follow along on you son's build also, I can't get enough of yours so another would be great.
Thanks Ron, really nice of you to say that. Maybe what would be best is if I get my Son to join the forum and do his own posting of this build. He would love it on here. I'll mention it to him tonight.
Don
I've got a suggestion for a screen name......................Ihaftaputupwithhim.;)Quote:

Don---Whats the matter here???? Have you hit "burn out" on your project, or are you just taking a rest. I live vicariously through you posts, (seeing as I'm not building anything this year), and you seem to have come to a stop. Are you being pulled in too many directions by all you sons projects?
Brian: Kind of all of the above. Now that the rush to possibly have it ready to take to Daytona has come and gone, I have sort of stopped to catch my breath. You know how sometimes you have all this enthusiasm to build your car and sometimes you don't want to look at it? That is where I am at right now.
If I didn't have this darned cold I was going to go do some things on my T today, but the way I feel I may not even make it to work tomorrow. (Nyquill and a beer REALLY make you sleep good :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE: )
Thanks for asking though. Nice of you to care.
Don
Don---Ya can't be sick and creative at the same time. Being sick sucks in a large way ( I know---I've had the damn stomache flue for 2 weeks). Sometimes, you have to step back and take a breather. Whenever I am in the middle of a build, I hate to stop, because I always have this terrible fear that I might never get started again. I really hope you are feeling better soon, and that everything works out okay for you.---Brian
Thanks Bud. I do plan to get the engine to the machine shop this week, and then I can start using all these nice new shiny parts I bought at Daytona. I am also talking with one of our members about the stainless exhaust systems he makes, seeing if we can make up some zoomies for it.
The other thing is that Season is hitting in Florida, and we are buried at work. All of the snowbirds are returning and wanting their boats fixed. When I get home at night all I want to do is sit in front of this screen chatting with you all. Old age is a b****.
But, you are right, I need to force myself to get over there. Otherwise the momentum does slip away.
Don
Today I had to go back to work, couldn't squeeze out another sick day.:( Cold was still hanging on, but a Doctor customer of mine noticed I had the cold and told me to go to the store and buy a product called "AirBorne." He said it boosts your immune system, and shortens the duration of a cold. I was desperate, so I did. THIS STUFF IS AMAZING. After two doses of it, I feel 100% better, and am not sneezing and coughing any more. Just thought I would pass this along.
After work I felt good enough to stop at the shop and drop off my new radiator for the T, that showed up today. I had it built by PRC, the same folks who did Dan's '29 radiator. Thing looks so good I may not run a shell on it. I still have to pick out an electric fan, and cut out a hole in the shroud to mount it. There is no question I will use a SPAL fan, after the experience I had with the one on my Jeep. They really move a ton of air.
Didn't really get any work done (don't feel THAT good yet), but I did sit around and admire my radiator. Here are some pictures of it , with and without the shell. I probably will run the shell though.
I'm really anxious to get the engine machined so I can start building it. Lots of new parts for it, just waiting to be put on.
Don
Took some pictures of my Son Don's new project. Hopefully Dan will have the frame perch modified this weekend, and Dan can give him his Xmas present early. He has most of the parts to get this thing up on wheels (except he borrowed my rear tires to do the mock up (:( :( ) He is probably going to run the same setup, except with one inch more backspacing, so the tires tuck in a little tighter.
Don
Hey Don, I really like that radiator, those guys do some great work!!!! The entire project looks really good. Glad to hear you found some new drugs......Now GET BACK TO WORK!!!!!!!
A good dose of the right stuff and off he goes, the radiator is very cool.
Hey Don, just wandering if there's anything going on with you or your sons car's. With my work schedule right now i'm living through your build.
Thank's for the time you put into this for us... Ron::) :)
Thanks for asking. Yeah, we aren't going nuts on it yet, but he and I went to the shop Tuesday night and started mocking stuff up. We put the engine in the frame and started figuring clearances, etc. He still doesn't know he is getting a different frame made, and Dan and I are going to sneak over there Saturday and put in as many hours as needed to finish the frame up at that time. Xmas is just around the corner, so he have to hustle.
I ordered his engine mounts from Speedway, and they should be here Monday, so the timing should be ok. We are sort of in that pre-Xmas lull period, where you just can't get too involved with serious building, but that should change right after New Years.
Dan and I were just talking last night, Don has got to make a decision on wheels and tires early on, because they will dictate the final look and theme of the entire car. He is on the fence between chrome reverse, or Cragar SS, or solids, or??????????? Dan and I are going to have to get him moving in that direction so that we can start getting it up on the final wheels, and set ride height, etc. Don has never built an early car, just later models, so he needs some direction from us as to how to stick with a theme, etc. It is his car, but some of the things he has mentioned he wants to do to it are sort of all over the place, and we need to get the look tied down to one specific era.
So, not a lot going on, except for some pre-planning . I guess I could be doing something on mine though. :( :( :(
Don
I'm just the opposite, Don!!! I usually get a ton of work done the last 3 weeks of December cuz everybody is so busy doing Christmas stuff I don't have to put up with a zillion interruptions!!!!!!!
Don are you ready to just sell that thing to me? Come on, just think about how much of a pain it still is going to be to get it painted and TOTALLY done. Just imagine, sell it to me and all your worries are gone, you can spend more time... umm.. picking up cans...??? YEAH thats it, picking up cans! Now how much fun would that be?
Okay, you've talked me into it. Bring $200.00 and a set of golf clubs. :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE:
Actually, I've never been on a golf course in my life, and even when I would play miniture golf with a date, she would beat me. :o :o :o
I swear, tomorrow night I have to get SOMETHING done on this thing. I am finally shaking my cold, so I feel more like starting to work on it again.
But if I decide to bail out, you will be the first to know. :3dSMILE:
Don
Don's the only guy to have a 3 mo. cold. When he gets over the cold he'll have to go to REHAB:eek:
I can get a set of clubs hook up my trailer and be there by dinner tomorrow.
Yeah, you are right Charlie, this darned cold keeps hanging on. Everybody at work has been passing it back and forth, and is like me, and has no energy. Just when I think it is gone, it comes back. Maybe I'm not drinking enough. :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE: Even my Kid hasn't been over to work on his '29 for a while because he comes home from work and goes right to bed.
This has got to end sometime.
Don
I got to admit I had a cold last month and ever once in awhile it comes back for a visit. Those days I don't get much done. That along with a torn rotator culf and kidney stones on both sides I'm not getting much done either. Other day I went out turned up the heat , came back in the house that was it till the next day. I'll be glad when they get these stones out.
Hope you feel better when that happens Charlie. I know people who have gone through these, and they are no picnic, I understand.
Don
Hey i've felt your pain (5 times)  Had lithotripsy last time, pee'd gravel for a few day's but at least it was painless. If anyone out there has never had one thank God right now .Quote:

What a great Christmas present.
Ok, you guys can't call me a slacker anymore. :3dSMILE: It's after 3 AM, and I just got in from helping Dan build Don's frame. We started about 2 this afternoon, and I am really feeling that 13 hours of lifting heavy pieces of steel.
We laid out the pieces we had cut last week, and got the rear kickups welded up, then moved on to the side rails. Here are a couple of pictures of that part of the build.
After that we dragged out the frame jig (thing must weigh 300 lbs  ) and clamped the frame to it. We got all the side rails welded up.
Dan wanted to try a new way to mount the front crossmember. He had seen a guy on the HAMB do it this way, and the feeling was you got a better weld because you do it not only on the inside portion of the frame, but on the outside too. So, instead of just punching a 3 inch hole through the inside wall of the frame rails, you go all the way through. Then you cut a round plate, the exact diameter of your tube crossmember, and weld that plate to the crossmember sort of like a cap. Once that is done you slide the entire assembly into the frame, flush with the outside of the frame rails, and fully weld it at that point.
Here are some pictures of that process.
Then you bend the top and bottom pieces around the front of the tube crossmember, and weld it all together. With a little grinding you never know that portion of the siderail was cut out. After seeing it done, I have to admit it does give you a much stronger frame, because both the inside and outside rails are welded solid.
Here are some final pictures of what we ended up with. Dan and I are going over after work this week and finish the front perch, rear coil over mounts, etc. and set it up on wheels. I am going to call Coker Tire Monday, and start inquiring about some chrome reverse wheels and whitewall tires. We figure if we get him the wheels and tires it will get the theme of the car started, and once he sees them on there he hopefully will like that look. If not, I will have some wheels and tires for my next project. :D :D :D
Don
Looks good!
Thanks. I think Don is going to be surprised when he sees it. Dan really is doing a nice job on it for him.
Well, just grabbed a shower and late night snack, time to hit the hay. Glad tomorrow is Sunday, and I can sleep in. These late night thrashes are a killer.
Don
Perfect welds.
Thanks, I wish I could weld like he does. :( :( :D
Tonight we went to the shop and held Christmas a few days early for Don. He told us he was going to go over there after work, and do some things to the T. As far as he knew, he still was using the old frame, so Dan and I had to make a decision. We beat him over there and surprised him with the new frame, and some of the parts that came in today from Speedway.
The three of us decided to hang the front end, and while Dan was welding on the front perch, Don and I bolted the radius rods and front spring on the axle. Then we welded up the rear radius rod brackets, after dialing in about 3 degrees to the front end. Chevy front axles like about a 4 degree king pin inclination, so we set it at about 3, figuring the weight of motor, etc will set it down another degree or so. We have enough adjustment in the rod ends to lose or gain a few more degrees, and we figure we are close enough for now.
Saturday I am going to dismantle the old frame mock up, and get us ready to hang the rear axle. These T kits are the best. Both Dan and I said if we would have built one of these instead of our current projects, we could have been on the road in about 6 months. Everything is just going together like an erector set.
Here are some pictures of tonights progress.
