Thanks guys. No, the scallops are out. All I want to put on the body is wax.  I am going to look for a pinstriper at Daytona while I'm there to put a few licks on the dash and maybe things like headlights. Not much, just a few lines.

Don
Don't wax it!!  Fresh paint needs to cure for at least 30 days before waxing or you will trap solvents in the paint and cause it to blister or crack later... Besides, if you're going to have it striped, the pinstriper will thank you for not waxing it until after he's done. If you want to polish it up after you install it, get some 3M Fill 'n Glaze (pink stuff). It is a non-wax polish that is safe for new paint.
Man, they did a nice job! Now I'm anxious to see it all together.  :D
Good point, I was going to wait for the wax, but I will pick up some of the 3M stuff to get handprints, etc off.
Yep, it was nice to run into a professional operation like the shop that did it, especially here in Florida. As we who live here know, there are lots of fly by nights in every business down here (I think they come down for the sunshine  ) so when you actually find an honest, high quality place it is very comforting. The entire shop is clean as a whistle, and they have 5 booths being used quite a bit from what we saw. I would certainly recommend them to anyone in the area...........Annie's Collision Center. :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE:
Now I gotta save up some coin for upholstery.
Don
I like it - always liked black rods.
Oh, and Don . . . it looks like that paint job used up half of your $3K. ;)
Thanks. Yeah, but I only spent about $ 500 on the rest of it.
Acording to my financial planner, I have enough left to live comfortably in retirement..........as long as I don't live for more than a week or two.
Don
I like it!
Don,The body came out real nice from what I see in the pics. You should make your deadline.Keep up that killer work.Hope you guys get your sons done in time also. That would make him real happy to cruise into the show with his pops.Good luck...
Don, congrat's on getting your body painted AND getting a nice job too. I can't believe how shiney it is, in the one picture you can see a chicken's leg's reflecting in the paint now that is shine.
All kidding aside it look's great and you will be cruising before you know it.
Ron
Looking good Don, keep up the good work
Brad
Thank you all. Hehe, chicken legs, huh?  Never gonna live that one down. :3dSMILE:
Tonight I undercoated the floor and undersides with brush on truck bed liner, went on well but I got more on me than on the car. Now the car shouldn't rust and neither will I. :p The stuff dries very fast, so tomorrow I plan to clean my frame and running gear well and when the Kids get to the shop to help me lift we can put the body down onto the frame. If all goes well that should be the last time.
In theory, I should be able to drive the car for the first time by next weekend. All I have to do is bleed and adjust the brakes and wire it, plus install things like my steering shaft and wheel. I see another YouTube coming. :3dSMILE:
Don
Yeah, just got emailed a picture.....................;)Quote:

That's actually pretty cool. I was thinking of having an airbrush guy do one of those old cam decals, like the girl riding a camshaft. I would put it down a little lower though, almost to the bottom. I had a Lady Luck decal on my '27 in that same position.
Don
No, actually, now that I look at it, I had the same Mr Horsepower woodpecker on my '27 that you posted. I had Lady Luck on the windshield.
Don
Don,
Don't you still have that car in pieces? I'm just curious, what possessed you to build another car as opposed to putting that one back together? I've always liked '27's; I'd like to see it up and running again. Not too sure about the pink & lavender though...:HMMM: :p
It's PURPLE !!  I drove it for 7 years almost daily, and it got very tired. Needed a complete redo, so I tore it down. I got involved with a girlfriend, and we were busy doing the relationship things like bike riding and trips, so it just sat for the next seven years. I kept planning on repainting everything and building a fresh engine for it, but somehow just never got around to it. I did strip the body back down to bare gelcoat a couple of years ago in preparation for a proper paint job, but then it got shelved again.
But, to give you a good answer why I haven't put it back together, I really can't. It is just one of those things that got shoved into a corner and forgotten. When the first of the year comes I plan on first finishing up the Dodge truck, because that one is so near being drivable, then I am going to start back on the '27. Over those 7 years of driving it I found some things I want to change (drop the front of the engine down an inch or so, etc).
Don
I also want to drop the seat down lower. It was comfortable this way, but I sat too high in it.
Don
Whoops, need to post picture , I guess.
Don,
Isn't Barbie's car the same color?
I knew I should have painted it red.
Don
The drivers forehead still needs some flattening agent.......... ;)
Don---Congratulations. The car looks very good. This has been an interesting year for me, following your build posts. I am looking foreward to seeing it all together.---Brian
Don in a car with Ackerman? What's the world coming to?
Now I know how he lost all his hair, sitting to high the wind blew it away...LOL
He had to drive fast, because everyone was sure it was a pink car.
Brad
Geesh, and I thought my Ex was abusive !!!!  :3dSMILE:
Got the body installed on the frame today, and boy was I nervous. Felt like Jimmy Shine when he warned the Apprentices not to scratch that $ 30,000.00 paint job. We padded the frame and every surrounding thing with towels, masking tape and cardboard, and Don and I lifted while Dan guided it home. Surprisingly, we didn't get a scratch on anything. :D
I knew this thing was going to be low, but I didn't think it would be this low.....but I love it. The body is about as high as the rear tires, and it has a slight rake to it. Overall I am really thrilled with the outcome. Certainly not a showcar, but I like it anyway.
Tomorrow we are going to spend the day trying to fire up Don's T, and during the week I am going to wire my car and try to test drive it by next weekend. Here are some shots of it tonight, tomorrow I will push it outside for a few better pictures.
Don
I still like it!
Especially since it's not pink................
Don,
That thing is awesome! I'm sure you have probably answered this a hundred times but what color is the interior going to be?
Ken
Thanks Bob and Ken. I think the interior is going to be a color that resembles an old baseball glove, sort of distressed, but not beat up if you know what I mean. Aside from black, which I don't want because of how hot it gets, it is the only color I can think of that will go with the colors I now have.
It will also give it that "used" look that I want for the car, kind of like an old hot rod that has been around for a while.
Ken, how is the sedan coming?
Don
Ouch!!!!!!!!!! That thing is sharp
Brad
Don,
I think that will look great.
The sedan is coming along, I have the wheels ordered, I have got the clutch, a Mcleod dual disc street set up with there hydraulic through out bearing, and a Tremec 5 speed. I picked up some '40 ford bells for the quick change. The parts collecting is the easy part, the frame construction is a nightmare. Building the fixture is really time consuming. Even with the drawings done, there are so many pieces. I sent the drawings to our Lazar cutting guy to cut the front frame rails and the rear rails. I'm using the stock style center portion of the frame. It's going a lot slower than I would like, thanks for asking.
Ken
I like it more than Bob does :3dSMILE:Quote:

The car is looking great!! Better than great actually!!
Glad to hear you're about ready for a test drive (you will post a video of course?).
I haven't posted anything lately, but I check on your progress nearly every day.
Hope your son's T goes as well.
Mike
Thanks everybody. I am going to build my wiring harness from scratch. I already did one, but changed my mind on using it because it all went under the dash, and I've determined there is almost no way to get back under there to install it due to the size of that area. A '23 has the smallest underdash area I have ever seen, which is why everybody else puts their wiring and switches under the seat. That is what I am going to now do too.
I've never used a commercial wiring harness like a Painless or Ron Francis because I was able to buy marine grade wiring cheap, being in that business. But now that I no longer am, I may use a kit next time on the other cars. Don just bought a kit for his T, and it is really pretty impressive. Each wire is marked with it's destination and all the circuits are loomed into groups. I had never really looked at them, but it sure looks like the way to go.
As for a video.........you betcha!! :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE: I'll do another YouTube, but am going to have to refrain from any smokey burnouts. I don't want to break anything before Daytona, so I'll have to baby it for a while.
Don
Gotta give us one little burnout Don.
Brad
Just a little show won't hurt Don!! She is looking like she wants to just find a
winding road and go Boogie!!
I would say just an 8 fuse harness would be more than enough wiring harness for a roadster right?
No Burn Out  :(
How many hours were you at it this week to get so much done? I'm highly impressed! The paint job turned out great, and the combo of polished headers and gas tank really set it off! That tank alone would be a budget buster for me right now. I'm still deciding whether to put the a new tank in the cab of my truck or rig up a under bed mounting job. After seeing that gas tank on your 3k project, I think an exposed tank in the bed may be the way to go. Nice job, send us a link to the video. Steve.
You guys are a bad influence!!!  I sure would hate to break something and miss out driving it there another year. I do have a little trouble keeping my foot out of the firewall when testing them though. Those slicks might bite too well and take that little S10 rear axle out.
We got Don's T fired up today, geez, that little 306 Ford is wicked. :D It makes my T sound like a stocker, and the x303 cam idles like a drag car. Dan is downloading a video right now into YouTube, and as soon as it is done I'll post it.
BTW, that gas tank is not all that bad Steve. Speedway gets something like $ 135 if I remember correctly......and they come in various sizes.
Brick, yep and 8 circuit should be fine unless you are planning on adding things in the future, like A/C, cruise control, etc.
Don
And as an added bonus Speedway starts it's annual free shipping deal on orders of $400 or more again tomorrow. Think it goes til January 12 like last year.Quote:
