37 Ford build--IE: old Header issues thread /37 Ford/5.0/GT40P heads

So, it won't look like I've done a whole heck of a lot today. I'm still waiting for parts to arrive so I can finish putting the brakes together. Apparently, on the SN95 Mustang Cobra rear discs they recommend an anti-moan bracket that bolts to the caliper bracket and clamps on the axle tube. Of course they are designed for a 2 3/4" axle and mine is 3" so some modification was required. I bought a 3" heavy duty muffler clamp, cut off the factory clamp and welded the rest of the bracket to the 3" one. Here are pics before I painted it. These brackets are no longer made by Ford. I found the RH one on ebay but I'm still looking for one for the LH side. A guy on a Mustang forum said he might have one.

I also painted my newish rear springs, clutch pedal mechanism and the anti-moan bracket today. Geez, my garage looks like a disaster area in these pics!!!:eek::eek::eek: I just assume that's a sign of progress....:)

So what's the purpose of a "moan" bracket? Heck, I remember when you moved into that garage! Sure didn't take long to mess it up! ROFL!

It's an ANTI-moan bracket. They say these brakes had a tendency to "moan" in reverse or at really low speeds. This bracket is suppose to give a little more support to the caliper and stop the moaning. I don't know why they didn't just design a stronger bracket for the caliper instead. Ford used these brackets on the Mustang GT's & Cobras from '95-04...:whacked:

OH, right... "ANTI" moan.... kinda like my wi..... oh never mind. Better leave that one alone!:LOL: That is funny about the design and the way "they" always seem to be trying to eliminate a fastener or a bracket. Then they pull this deal. I really do like the looks of the whole setup tho'., and I hope they perform as well as they look!

Randy did those brake kits come with a spacer for the axle to take up the end play...? I`ve been looking at the crown vicky discs for mine, it will fit either the ford eight which is under mine now or 9 inch which I`m putting together now...both require the spacer ring.

Rich, I assume you're talking about a spacer to make up the gap from the old backing plate, right? If so, yes, there is a spacer in the kit for that. I chose this kit because it allows me to keep my existing wheel bearings which are still in good shape. It also makes provision to mount a Mustang splash/dust shield if I want. The downside is that it is best to use the anti-moan brackets for extra caliper stability and to eliminate any low speed/reverse moan.

If you need to replace your wheel bearings, Mustang Steve at mustangsteve.com also make a kit which he says doesn't need the anti moan brackets. You do have to replace the wheel bearings to install part of his mounting bracket though. His kit doesn't make a provision for a splash/dust shield, which he said he didn't think you really need.

Randy I was just talking about the bracket that the union attaching the rubber hose to the hard line is sitting on top of. I get it now...there is a nut welded to the rear.

Here's another question. Are your hard lines just standard inverted flared steel lines? Are those stock Mustang rubber hoses? I have '97 camaro discs on a '68 camaro 10 bolt. I ordered stock camaro rubber hoses and it threads on fine to my hard lines, but the flares on the hard line and rubber hose do not look like they will seal.

Yes, I used the stock Mustang hoses and modified the mounting bracket for the axle. For the hard lines, I bought a 51" piece of 3/16" steel brake line and bent it to fit my application. I cut it and double-flared the ends to fit it to the hoses.
Are your hard lines double-flared?

Thanks for the info, I have been to his site before, evidently missed parts of the info I was looking for.. back to the hood, I still need to raise my front fenders again about an inch to close up the gap at the rear of the grille.

That looks similar to the issues I have. When I have the side panels installed, they fit flush with the grille but there's still a gap in the hood. On mine it almost seems like the center of the grille is too high, which raises the peak of the hood too high to close the gap at the side panels. I'm going to put new rubber body mounts on the frame before I do any additional hood/fender fitment.

I am pretty sure the hard lines have a double flare. I am just using pre flared auto part store lines. I am not sure how to explain it but the hose basically has the opposite flare. The hoses I bought from Speedway seem to work fine for the front, but everything they have is for "front" brakes. Those hoses for front brakes do not seem to be different from what I would need on the back. Is there a difference?

Hmmmm, not sure I understand....got any pics? That might help. Then we can get some other opinions, too....
