Wireing Harness Help

I am getting ready to repower the 35.I want to replace the complete harness.Its going to have all the comforts.A/C,Power Windows,Electric Fan,All new gauges from Classic Instruments,Plus all the normal lights,Turn Signals,Radio and the list goes on.I want to know what the best brand name harness that is user freindly?I also want to know how many circuits I will need?Please let me know what experiences you have had with the major companies that are out there.I was talking to one of my customers that build rods,He told me that Painless was not that painless.Please chime in on what you have used on your own cars.Pros and Cons with all the companies.

Lots of answers to that question. :LOL: I know a lot of people who love Painless and I admit that I strongly consider them when I purchased my wiring kit. But for me, I chose a Ron Francis kit. But my reasons may not work for you. The company is less than 70 miles from where I live. Their wires, like Painless and others, are color coded and labeled for easy identifying, also I wanted a kit that did not have the wires already terminated at the fuse panel. In come cases I wanted to replace selective wiring, and therefore did not want to have tie up unused wires. I bought their Bare Bones II set up with 16 fuses and 18 circuits (simialr to their new Express kits) since I was running a/c and would be adding other goodies in the future. I know I could have bought a smaller unit and have added more circuits on in the future, but that is mess that I had at the time. The builder put in an 8 circuit unit in to begin with and then previous owners added to it until it looked like a huge bowl of spaghetti.:eek: :eek:

Plus I wanted to add some other Ron Francis goodies like the turnsignal and the tilt wheel arms with push buttons to activate other goodies, in my case the horn and the headlight dimmer. So I figured best would be to keep with the same brand.

There are some cheap kits out there so be careful. Cheap in cost and in parts. Make sure the wires are rated high enough to carry the loads that you need. Especially the ones for the starter and other heavy drawing items.

Three companies that have very good kits are Ron Francis, Painless and American Autowire. There are others, some are good and some are poor.

I used the EZ wiring 21 harness with the compact fuse panel. I was at first overwelmed with everything extra but as I have started to put in everything I wanted too, I am now glad I got all the curcuits. I found it easy for a beginner and well marked. I have had very good luck with it so far and it's fairly inexspensive compared.

Brick were the wires as heavy gauge as they advertise

I also have to agree with brickman, i used the ez wire 21 circuit compact kit. I found it real easy to use and install, and it seems to be working fine, but i will say that the extra wires are hard to hide for future use, but i did not want to cut them short in case i need them in the future, hope this helps.

Yes Bluestang, all the wires where as they advertized. They are heavy where they need to be and and marked very well. I also liked the way it was really easy to hide the small fuse box.

I used an EZ wire kit with the mini fuse panel on my Anglia, only with less circuits, because I have no creature comforts in it. I was pleased with the kit and it has served me well. It was fairly priced and user friendly.

I got a Painless 18 circuit for a keyed GM tilt column. I did this as I wanted the key onth column and I wanted to use all the column features, turn signals , horn, wiper, dimmer switch, and ignition switch, my current column has a headlight switch too but I think future will be dash mount.. I plan on replacing the column with an Ididit keyed column this winter so it should be a bolt in.

This gives me a very clean dash with very few switches. Just a/c right now.

Painless aint. I use and reccomend Ron Francis. Some body brings me something else and it gets a THOROUGH examination prior to any agreements being made. Just MHO.
