Not that I am a big fan of the mag, but Hot Rod Magazine has a nice article on the gasser era in it's October issue.:) :)

Gassersrule is correct. There were lots of 283's and 327's around in the 60's. I may be corrected, but I think the big block 396 did not even go into production until the very late 60's and the 454 after that. I do know that lots of guys were using Oldsmobile motors and rear axles in those early to mid 60's Gassers.
65 you could get the z-16 chevelle with a 396 and in 66 the ss 396 rolled out
Too bad you live so far away, still got that dang straight axle off a '59 chebbie pickup, all the gasser guys say it's just what they want....but it's still just laying here. Very heavy, at least $100.00 and a pallet and some strapping to ship it.... I've had it sold three times, nobody wants to come get it!!!!! It's a 6 bolt, but there is a disc brake kit and 5 bolt hubs sold for it....
dave i was un-aware u had this !!!!
I've listed it for sale on here 3 or 4 times, instantly goes off the list....Quote:

Unfortunatly i promised the wife i would get to the t-bird next, so i will have lots of time to gather parts.
My dad knew Dave Hales from S&S Racing back in the day. According to him, Dave's 301 powered Willys was turning over 9,000 through the traps (ran something like a 6.50 gear). Sounded pretty high, but it must've had those sort of revs to go 115 - 120 mph.

Ya, Dave's '37 would fly.....and still will. He lives pretty close to me. I'd love to go by and see it sometime.
