I am running a 305 in the roadster pickup.----mainly because I bought the whole damn car for $200 when I was looking for a Chev V8 to build the roadster pickup around. I really, really, wish I had a ton more horsepower. That old engine runs sweet, never gives me a moments problem in 3 years of regular useage, but Jeez, sometimes I miss that "boil the hides, gut wrenching, throw me back in the seat" acceleration that I've only previously found in a built 327 or 350.---Brian

I'm a firm believer in using what you've got laying around. No sense in letting a good engine go to waste as long as you're going to be satisfied with it.
That was my thinking too. He has the motor and knows the history of it. With a little internal clean up and some dress up goodies, it will make him a fine motor. Then, down the road if he decides he wants more zip he can build a 350 block and it will bolt right in.
I essentially did the same thing with the 350 in my T. Had the machine shop hone and clean things up, did a ring and bearing job, and was good to go. Runs like a top and is as much as I want or need.

Keep the 305 heads the 3.48 crank for as a spare . Save all the covers . Then find and buy a good 350 short block from your local Craigs list for $75.00 . I did and now have a much better engine ! A 305 has way to small of a bore to build it . A 283 or 307 is a better engine to build with its larger 3.875 bore .
I gatta chime in on this ,.....I built a 305 ,I got mine with less than 3000 miles on a fresh rebuild for 75 bucks..............:eek: No one wants these motors ,for some unknown reason.:CRY:
I spent a few hundred and built one up to about 300 hp at 5500 and approx 350 ftlbs of torque at 3500.
Hp is HP no matter where it comes from,300 hp is a pretty stout engine ,when comparing that to stock factory specs on any car,almost any car that came from the factory with 300 hp was a heathly runner and well above the average grocery getter.
Basically a stock engine with a .030 bore,a xe 262 cam ,rhodes lifters,edelbrock intake and a edelbrock 1405 600 cfm vac secondary carb.
I have not raced it yet ,but I am pretty happy soo far.
Heres one to ponder ,the 5.0 mustanges were 302 engines ,smaller than a 305 and they never hit anywhere close to 300 hp stock from the factory,.............How much fun is it to drive a 5.0 mustang??????Now picture that with 50 to 80 more hp as most were rated in the 220 to 240 hp range stock.

Its by no means a vette killer ,but I am sure it will be a hand full when you gouge it all the way down and start shiftin on the tree.....4.11 gears help too:D
a 305 300HP is not a bad street engine . But if you took all the parts from your 305 and installed them in a 350 . The 350 would have 375HP 420 torque . I did hear your engine on you tube . It runs well nice job . :)
If you want mutliple carbs, why not 3 deuces? Always looks good on an open engine, lots of performance, but easy on the gas when you keep your foot out of it. Six deuces would be even prettier.:eek: :LOL: :cool:

Yeah I like a two four setup too. Thinking about asking the little woman to put the new Edelbrock endurashine 2x4 set up on my xmas list this year. After she stops laughing, maybe I'll save my pennies and order one next Spring.:LOL: :LOL: Sure would look nice sitting under the hood of the 34.
I had a 1972 Olds Cutlass with a mild built 350 Rocket . That engine loved big carbs . I really wanted to put dual quads on that car .
i must say im very satisfied by the response i recieved from this thread , i thought there would be more negativity , i think its because im using the motor in a t bucket instead of a camaro ,things are looking up and i am going to mildly build the 305 and use it ,thanks

Glenn, the only thing that I can add is to follow your dreams. First and foremost, you have to be happy and satisfied with your build. We can all offer you advice and opinions, but you have to satisfy yourself. Regardless of how you go about it, do it right and you will be proud of the end product. Good luck with the T and keep us up to date with plenty of photos.
