Jeez Pro, racing that thing is like racing a small apartment building ! :D :D Looks good.
Don
The first time I saw your gorilly' Denny I had to double check what forum I was on.
It weighed in at 3200 lbs. As aerodynamic as a brick. Not much of an issue on an 1/8 mile track though. :DQuote:

The Panel is going to be great! ;)
I know of another claim to fame product for surface rust as well, it's called Gibbs Brand. Its only sold by mail/internet that I know of. You can google it or PM me and i will get the info to you. Its like 21.00 / can shipped.
Thanks for the tips guys, i will look into those products.
Reminds me of a guy that used to race at Lions on Sundays in the late '60's. A 426 Hemi powered '39 Cad LaSalle hearse. :)Quote:

Oh by the way, that panel is bada$$ there pro, got any more pics?
That looks nice and strong now John, and neat too.
Don
some of those welds look like tig welds and some look like mig welds. not to bad for someboy who dosent weld ever day though. i couldnt help but notice the topic of this post i am doing a 68 chevy myself. quick question for you hot rod what is your rear floor made of plywood????? oh and good idea boxing in that c chanel frame. and my .02 to avoid rust powder coat.... i will start a post in a few day of my panel restoration
Yeah, they are tig and stick, been switching up to get in some practice, its been awhile for both. And yes the rear floor was plywood.Cant wait to see pics of yours, keep us posted.
Looks like you certainly took care of the stregth issues on the C-notch... Looks a heck of a lot stronger, nice work!!
I agree, looks very stout now, whats next install the front and rear suspension?
The link is not working for me.
I still have to finish the other side Brick, but that should be done tonight! Then im gonna blast the frame, or try, i bought a harbour freight cheapy, so i will see how it does this weekend. If it gets the frame cleaner, then it will be worth it!! Then its onto suspention!! Ill keep you guys updated.
Blasting an entire frame with a Harbor Freight machine is NOT going to be fun - either for you or your compressor.
Yeah i tried it out today, looks like its time for plan B!! Not gonna work at all, looks like me and the angle grinder have a long weekend together!!
Sorry to hear that HRD, try not to let it bite ya! They can bite pretty hard in my experience, especially if I was tired.
Ive now got most of the frame cleaned up and primered, i used the angle grinder with a wire wheel, and it seems to be working pretty good. Im still having problems getting in some tight spots, but overall, i think its alright. After getting some primer on it, now im wondering to what level i should go with the final finish? Its got some deep pitting in spots that are kinda bugging me, but do i really want to make it show car quality? If i let myself go , i will spend the next six months getting the frame perfect! I know its all up to me, but i dont like feeling like ive comprimised on quality, i really want to do a top notch job on this build!! I know it will never be seen, but it will still bug me.
Does anyone know what era rims these are? I would not mind cleaning these up and running them again, but if i use them i need to try and keep up the theme on the rest of the build. I figure they are late 70`s, or bad 80`s.
sorry forgot the pics.
John, that looks great, I would spray it chassis black and call it a day. I understand the quest to get every little spot perfect, but at some point you have to decide you want to drive the car someday and not just spend all your time working on it.
Jimmy Shine made a very valid point when he told Littleman he had to decide what parts to make a 10, and what parts to make a 2. Whenever Dan gets to fussing over some little spot not being perfect on his car I drag him over to my T and ask him how much we notice the little flaws we left in it. The answer is none. It's a driver quality car, and that is what I want it to be. I want to use and abuse it.
You did a great job on the frame. Git er done!!!!!!!
Don
Wheels look like some Cragar SS knockoff to me.
Mine were Uni- Lug, but they were American knock offs.
Frame looks really nice!!! I have a small spot blaster I use on the nooks and crannies that grinding can't get at..
those wheels are old school cragar SS wheels 60's 70's 80's and they still sell them in summit catalogs there suppose to be crome instead of painted.
Yeah the crome is still under the paint in spots. So if i kept the rims, then i could do a 60`s style custom? Or i could still do my 70`s van style, like i wanted.Quote:

I have had them on almost every car I have had including the first 65 cuda I owned in 69, I love'um!
These two are my most favorite styles that i have found, would those rims go with these?
I still want to do one of them some day... Only thing is I get so carried away on projects it'd end up being another 3 year project!!!!!!... Lean the posts back a bit, little chop, lose some of the crown on the roof, suicide doors, tilt front end, you know, just the average tune up!!!!
I know what you mean Dave, im trying real hard not to do anything drastic!! Ive allready been thinking of a 2-3" chop, and decrowning the roof. Then the other day while staring at the frame ,i started thinking about my own gravedigger!! A little lift and some 44`s.
Well i took daves advice, and started putting some gussets on the frame. Just the two i got done tonight shows a huge improvment in the frame twist.
I finally decided to reattach the sub frame, i started on it last night and got it cut and fit. tonight i did some welding on it, and its begining to look like it will work! When i got it mocked up, i was a little scared that it was not going to be strong enough because there was very little support, but after i did some rigging, i think it will be fine. Then i feared the final appearance was going to be down right horrible, but after the work tonight, im pretty happy so far!! Once i get some more boxing in that area, i think it will be presentable.
And a few more, after i started getting it more presentable.
That does look a lot stronger. Good move John.:)
Don
thanks Don. Im still a little nervous about the thin area where i cut the frame rails to slide in the subframe, but once i box it all in, plus the supports i added inside, im hoping it will have a sandwich effect, and hold up at the critical area.
Think I would consider a fishplate on the outside of the frame rail as well.....
