Next trend in rod and custom paint.

On a serious note, I have watched as the hot rod hobby, at least what I can see, has gone from traditional '60s.....to "restorod"...to "billet" cars....to "fad Tees" ....to "vintage" '40s....now '50s hot rods....and it is starting to change again. As this thread indicates, I think the sixties are the next stop.

If I had to state the biggest change beside style, I think it is the strong sense of rebellion amongst younger builders. My circles have always been people who admired a well-built car, but now it seems hot rods are becoming more of a "social statement", than a piece of craftsmanship.

Just to be clear, I am not talking about trailer queens or show cars, we took pride in the street driven car, and admired it for it's own sake. It had nothing to do with money or driveability.

After 50 years around the hobby, I am confounded and disappointed. The bad attitude seems to erase much of the good will we used to feel toward any custom car owner, and now it seems the hobby is becoming more fragmented.

I wish it had overrun disco! I worked and carpooled with a few guys who always turned the conversation to "perms", necklaces, and Haggar slacks. The worst part is when they would show us their new dance moves. I wish I had lived in Texas where it was legal to hunt them! :-) LOL!

If you were a resident of New Orleans, it would be an easier task. :-)

Seriously, I don't see any solution beyond sealing the parts with epoxy to prevent rusting, then dipping small portions of the car, like doors or fenders. You could probably use a plastic swimming pool. This would leave areas that could be masked into panels and you could paint around them.
