I'd like to ask those of you who have ordered your bodies from Brookville how close to their quoted delivery time they actually come. We are getting ready to order a '31 RPU body from them and they are quoting two months. That would be ok, but if it goes any longer it will put my Son in a bad position to have the car done again this year for Turkey Run.

I don't think they would out and out lie to get the order, but sometimes companies are overly optimistic and you end up waiting and waiting. Two months becomes 4 months or more.

What have been your experiences with them????

Is Dan scaping the body he's been working on this last year?

Not exactly. I inherited it. (Do I see another Project $ 3K in the wind? ) Don and I always benefit from Dan's changes in plans, he's very generous that way.

Depending on what answers you might get there's another alternative. They would ship you the components and you assemble the shell yourselves, they usually have all the parts on the shelf, the delay comes in working the job into their assembly schedule. You might also be able to get most of it without their cheesy primer that way too.

When I ordered my '31 Brookville, they were quoting 3-4 months thru my dealer. I got a call from him 3-4 WEEKS later to come to his shop to pick it up. What it is now that they are building the '32 roadster PLUS the 3w coupe - who knows?? They had some product last year at NSRA York.

Don, why not come up to the York Nats and pick one up?? Maybe you can buy one anad have them bring it to York. They do it for other folks. Besides, York Nats is about 3 times as many vehicles and 5 times as many vendors as Tampa. Might be fun! Only a mere 1000 miles north of Fort Myers.

If not, just don't order one with artillery wheels and you won't have to worry about shipping times.

Bob, you continue to amaze me with your knowledge of all things!! You are absolutely right, I just called them, they are happy to do that, and there are so many benefits to us doing it that way. First of all, the price is lower.....$2800 vs $4300 and no $250 crating fee. The freight should also be lower as they just put it on a pallet. Best of all, they say in a week or two tops they can get it out the door.

Another thing is that we were going to have to cut it up when it came to remove the subframe for channeling, now we don't. They will also leave the primer off and I have heard stories about how hard it is to remove. I just called Dan and he is going to probably order it today this way.

Can't thank you enough Bob. If you have any of those "Bob Parmenter for President" buttons left, send me a couple of them........you have our votes.

Dave, he told me this morning that they actually do have a 30-31 RPU body sitting there that they have built for a customer who can't pick it up until June, so we could have gotten that one. But by taking the unassembled one we save approx $1900 when you add in crating and higher shipping costs. That alone makes it attractive to do it that way, plus we don't have to cut it up when it comes to get the subframe out.

BTW, they really seem like great people to deal with.

Thanks Dan! I'm seeing your truck get burried way back in the shop, behind all of the new projects!
Sounds like he wants to get the truck done soon. I like the idea of getting it quicker and for quite alot cheaper, the way you need it, vrs. tearing it apart after they just assembled it!

Yeah Steve, that was why Dan decided to just get a new body rather than use his old one. He started looking at all the jobs that needed done to make an 80 year old body straight enough and nice enough for paint. He still had a couple months work in it with his work schedule. He has a brand new Brookville bed on the car and it is as straight as an arrow so he figures the new body will save him time and money in the long run.

(Plus, I got a new project out of the deal..............of course that wasn't the reason I kept agreeing with him to buy the new one..........no, not me!! )

I'm sure with Dan's tendencies the new body is the right choice, just think how many changes he'll make to begin with with, calculate the time involved, add the staring at the truck factor, divide by body work time, multiply by sore back, frame flipping, add 7% sales tax(eye lid raising) well I get where your coming from!

Don, how much are they charging for freight, I could bring it down to you. If they are to high.

Well, the charge for a complete, put together body is $ 450, but we figure maybe $ 300 for a pallet with a broken down body on it. Dan will know tomorrow when he actually places the order.

When are you coming down? Nice offer BTW.

Just an update. Dan placed the order today for the unassembled body. Surprisingly, it can ship UPS ! The bed he bought from them previously came UPS too as it was unassembled, but their stuff goes together like an erector set, everything fits like a glove.

We should have it in a week or two and are going to start making a plywood platform to square it up on while we assemble it. I'll post lots of pictures of how the assembly process goes. Thanks to everyone who responded with suggestions and comments. If it wasn't for the info Bob gave us, I would have never thought of buying it in pieces.

Glad it can be shipped UPS, Brookville comes to a swap meet in Springfield, May 23rd. I was going to suggest they bring it there and I would bring it down to you the next weekend. That way you wouldn't have to pay for crating and shipping.
