Kiwi Bonneville Bill Ward!
Good News
Kiwi-A-Salt's rear-engined ’27 roadster was run on the 8000ft runway at Ohakea Airbase over the weekend. Bad weather meant that only 2 runs were possible but during those 2 test runs the car was taken up to 120 mph. At this speed the car was just idling over, all systems worked perfectly and the car drove brilliantly. Driver Bill Ward reported excellent peripheral vision and all controls easy to use. Crew member Splitpin reported that the on-board camera showed that Bill could steer easily and on the slow down was steering with finger-tip control.
Bill Ward and the crew remarked that the RNZAF staff at Ohakea from the top brass all the way down were extremely helpful and were to be commended for their support.
This strong and positive result sets the team up for a strong challenge on the salt in August.....more updates to follow
Coverage of the 2 Kiwi-A-Salt runs made on Ohakea Airbase over the weekend filmed by Greg Wood, team cameraman, has kindly been made available to Sky Television. Bill is traveling to Auckland to be interviewed today and the interview and footage will screen on Sky Sports 2. The show is called Karcher Pit Lane and airs from 7-8pm tomorrow night - Tuesday 9th June.....
