and a couple of more shots....
and the pricetag from a GT40 kind of rig...
And this is what that price tag would get you!
Eric, we were walking by when they fired up the GT40, it sounded real sweet, my wife even commented how nice it sounded.

Great! I wish I could have been there for that, but just looking at all of those cobra's under the awning was amazing.
Who are those guys?
I just got home from a trip down today. I did not walk around much, pretty much the same old stuff, but i did get to hang out with JIm Robinson and Gastrick, i briefly spoke with Don and his boys too.
You're right about the same old stuff, except for "Backasswards" and "Backdraft Racing". But I did have a great bar-b-que sandwich called a "Sloppy Bob" and beat traffic by riding bikes!:D :D
I also didn't have to buy parts this time so I skipped the swap meet portion of the show...oh and the t-shirts were better than in the past.
I walked by the backdraft setup, they had some nice looking stuff. Did you see the mach 5 replica? I walked maybe 1/8 of the swapmeet and it looked like the same vendors in the same spots, but there was a few model a bodies around 2 grand though.
I like the Ford F1 truck with the "tomatar" face? Any idea where I can get a set of those lips and eyes for my truck?:D
My brother in law, my nephew, a family friend and I went down on Saturday. It was a little different than the last time I went (2004?) but mostly the same. Seemed like a lot more food vendors than in previous years, all too expensive (we packed). Saw about 3/4 of the swap meet vendors before my feet gave out, and saw none of the inside vendors.
Found Don's car (parked in the road) and also Don Jr's blue T. Both were parked in the HAMB area. Never did get to meet Don or Jr, but did get to meet a few fellow HAMBers. Saw a helluva lot of really nice cars, both slick and trad. All in all it was a good day. Would have been nice to have been there all four days but just not in the cards for this year, maybe next year. I took a bunch of photo's and will post a link when I get them uploaded to photobucket.
I wish i knew you were gonna be there, you could have caught up with the rest of us.
Hotroddaddy wrote:I was going to give you a call on your cell, but when I went to do it I realized it had been on my old phone and the number was not transferred over. Couldn't find it in an old thread either. So I could not contact anyone important.:D And of course, Don never has a working phone so he is like the phantom. If weren't for finding his car I would have had to assume he really only exists in the ether.:LOL:Quote:

We just walked in the door getting back from TR, and the last 4 days are a blur. Every year we plan on doing so much and getting hooked up with so many friends, and it never seems to work out right. We did get to see some of the members, but missed a lot more who were nice enough to leave notes on my seat. :) I think the problem is that TR is so big and covers so much territory that we are all spread out at any given time. The other thing is that we were so dog tired from walking so many miles through the swap meet every day that we basically went back to the motel and crashed for a while, then went out to grab a quick bite before going to bed for the night.
Lots to report, but no pictures so far. I didn't want to drag my camera around with me, so all the pictures we have are on Dan and Don's cameras. As soon as I can get them from them I will post some.
The highlight of the run for me was getting my car pinstriped by Skratch. In case you don't know him, he does most of Chip Fooses stuff, and has an upcoming TV show on the speed channel. He's kind of like the Ed Roth of today. He was one of the attractions they brought in, I think, and I had him do my headlights, cowl, dash, and rear crossmember. The guy is AWESOME. He freehands everything and it looks like a laser did it, the work is so straight and neat.
Don had him do his T after mine, and it came out really nice too. We had him sign his name to the work. I felt really good, because here is a guy who works on almost every episode of Overhaulin' right beside Chip, and he said he liked my car! :D He said it was the style he likes, and coming from him that is a huge compliment. I know I'm not worthy, but I still smile thinking about it. :) 50 years from now when someone drags my T out of a barn they will say "and it even has pinstriping done by Skratch!!"
I also bought a dual carb setup for the T, and am going to try to get it installed this weekend. Bought it from Vintage Speed, and it is complete right down to the chrome scoop on each carb. The four barrel has been fantastic, but the car needs a little zing and I haven't done anything since I finished it up a year ago.
The weather was the best, UNTIL TODAY.:( We should have left at 8 AM, but Dan wanted to go back and buy a few more goodies, so we left at noon. We got 1 mile out of Daytona and the sky opened up.........HARD!! Dan and Don were in Dan's truck towing Don's T, but I was following behind in my T. I not only got drenched, but the raindrops were like bullets, stinging my face and head. Finally we pulled under an overpass and a State Trooper pulled in to see what was up. Very nice guy, and he told us where the nearest U Haul dealer was, so we went there and rented a truck and trailer to pull my T home on.
I've driven in a lot of Florida downpours in my '27, but it handles differently. The '23 is squirrelly with the slicks on the back, and braking was basically skidding 20 feet to a stop. That did it for me, so I decided to turn it into a trailer queen for the ride home. Better that than wrecking and maybe killing myself or someone else.
So...............that's about it for my Daytona tale. I think this was the best one yet. We had a blast, got to see some friends, and bought lots of stuff we don't need.
Don
Sorry I didn't make this year, maybe next year. Hit a piece of steel on I95, bent two wheels and flatten both tires. Good thing it was at nite not much traffic for me to hit.
BradC
Don sorry to hear about the wet ride home, smart choice though! Brad - bummer about the tires, looks like a great show though, and it will be fun to see project 3k resurrected again. Steve.
I had a good time but I had camera issues and didn't get any pictures. I met Don and his sons Don and Dan, Hotroddaddy, and J Robinson. The weather was great all weekend but like Don said, right after I pulled out of Daytona, the wind and rain got rough in places. I had a great time and also bought a buch of stuff that I didn't really need.....well except for the breather cap. I actually needed that.
Come on Bill, show em your new shift knob. :):)
Don
Weather was perfect - until Sunday. The Cruise at the Bel Are Plaza was nuts on Friday night, never made it there on Saturday. Lots of nice Rods, my favorite was a rare Nash coupe (pic attached). Great lines in the fenders & grille. I'd really like to see it finished.
What was very strange was the way the Daytona Police stormed the plaza at about 11 oclock and ran everyone off. There must have been a dozen motorcycles and cars, and they kept telling people if they didn't leave they would be "arrested for trespassing." Daytona and the plaza in particular seem to want it both ways...........they want the revenue from these events, but not the inconvenience they bring. "Leave your money, but stay off of our streets."
Funny thing was, the cops were very cool on Thursday and Friday, but that all changed Saturday night. They even had the entrance to the plaza coned off so you couldn't get in without going in the back way. I wish Daytona would make up it's mind.
Don
Hello All,
Had a fantastic time in Daytona and my T finally made it somewhere (not without some charging and brakelight issues of course) all minor problems too be sure. The one thing that I loved being there was seeing the CHR people and how friendly they all are. You all make everyone feel very welcome and for that I thank you. Bill your whole family is made up of quality people and Bill is only one quality example of people I met and talked to who represent our sport. The cars are one thing, but the people are another. You all are fantastic people and thank you for a great weekend. Don Jr.
OK......I know there have been picture posting problems but come on men, give us some pics......:(:(
I hope Don has some to post, I only took 4 the whole time and I inadvertently wiped those out when downloading them into my computer. :o I was so busy enjoying the event that I didn't stop to take any to speak of. Even Gastrick, who is usually Mr Camera didn't take any, I think.
I could "borrow" some from another forum, but I do that way too often as it is.
Don
Here are a few pics off of my phone. (pops diving on the way up and a view from behind the windshield, "skratch" pinstriping my T, etc.) Cant say enough nice things about "Skratch" just a great guy to be sure. I guess being famous does not change some people! Like Pops said we have more on our cameras. Will Post them ASAP. Don Jr.:whacked:
Don Jr. the Blue T sparkles, do you have any after shots of the pin stripping? And Don Sr. some after shots of the P3K please.
I was there Fri and Sat, the only "freindly" I saw was John, AKA Hotroddaddy. Tried to meet Don and the crowd at the HAMB area and even did a drive by but couldn't find him. Oh well, I try for Billetproof.
p.s. I didn't even tear anything up this time!
Some more pics off the phone. Problem with my Camera storage card so our pics may be limited. (Skratch striping project 3K, my car with a nice duece in the HAMB area, etc.) :p Joliet, Sorry We missed you. Make sure to instant message us before Billet proof so I can get a cell # to you. Stovens thanks for the compliment. I am going to take some detailed shots of the striping and post them this weekend. Awesome job for sure. I will get some shots of dads too. Don Jr.:toocool:
Don JR- looks great from what I can see in the photos!
Holy Cow Jr., ........that phone takes some nice pics... :3dSMILE:
My phone takes pics like .....well....we will leave that blank...
Looks like fun to me !!!! :)
Here's 5, more to come.
Five more for the group. If you go to the Turkey Run web site, there's a file of pics posted. Enjoy !!!!!
Okay Don if you insist:D It was a present for my dad.
If you look at the the picture on the HAMB of the topless female posing on the trunk of a car with a small child walking about ten feet away, it wouldn't be a stretch to say the welcome was probably worn out at some of the cruise spots. While I've got nothing against topless females, there's a time for that sort of thing and that wasn't it.
