Those are great old trucks but you loose most of the charm of driving an old truck when you ditch the straight axle imo. I think a 55-56 front end would be a better one for the modified grill. It would take a buttload of metal work on the earlier front since the grill bars are just punched into the whole front piece.Last edited by willowbilly3; 03-17-2009 at 04:39 AM.

It will still have plenty of charm even if it does ride better and stop. I'd go IFS.
My 48 is on a S-10 frame. I love it. It glides down the interstate and corners pretty good too.
A panic stop from interstate speeds is not the time to enjoy the charm of an old truck.

You're not thinking ahead. There's nothing that says you have to put the crossmember in where somebody else says to put it. If you want the truck 2" lower, then position the crossmember 2" higher on the frame when you weld it or bolt it together. If you want the front 4" lower, then position the crossmember 4" higher than the instructions call for. Whatever.Last edited by techinspector1; 03-17-2009 at 11:03 AM.
Visited a family member at Dockery Ford from the time I was 1 year old through their ownership and then ownership change to Morristown Ford. Dockery was a major player in the Hi Performance...
