How did I miss this thread earlier?.. Anyway, I like the "off-gloss" black on the chassis; it's very "retro". In keeping with the retro theme, how about using something very traditional on the body like Honduras Maroon or Titian Red?

Funny you should mention Titian (or however you spell it) red. Last year at billet proof there was that one roadster with it, and the year before that 27 RPU with the same red. What a great color. It is one of the ones I have kicked around for mine. I won't really know until I get the car up on wheels with the motor in it what color I want. Right now the leader is satin black because I can shoot that myself, but if I go fancier it will involve a body shop and I have such terrible luck with those guys.
I called one shop the other day that does custom paint jobs to ask about painting Dan's car. They told me they do one car at a time and it would be about two months...........his may be satin too with November creaping up fast on us. Dan dug out a 2005 issue of Old Skool Rods for me to see, there is a totally black 27 in there and it looks great. Really hard to decide, and I think I am going to deviate from my usual wide whites on this one and go with blackwalls.

Don this satin black one looks pretty cool. I like the white walls for contrast, but get what your saying!

The all black body and tire theme has more of a raw look

I saved this one from a HAMB thread, really like the no nonsense look it has.

Very nice, like the cards ! Are you going to put the bomber seats in this one?
No, it's set up for a bench seat already. I am going to put bombers in the 30 rpu though, I already have them. Dan found out they were too high sided for his rpu with the top he has planned,(entry and exit was tough) so I bought them from him. He is having a set built by some guy right now, and he is also making him aluminum door panels.
I am going to cut the bench seat down lower though. I sat too high in the car the last time I did it, so this time I plan on just a thin pad affair. My Ex-GF sewed up my last interior and it was a little too padded and encroached on the very limited interior room. This time I am going very sparse and thin.

The spelling and pronunciation of Titian Red has been disputed for years. I was told it is pronounced "tee-shun", but no one seems to know what it means. I've always wondered if it was supposed to be "Tahitian" and maybe somebody at GM back in the '50's couldn't spell that either...
Body shop?!! We don' need no steenkin' body shop, man!.. If I had to pay to have my cars painted, they'd all be done in spray-can primer!
Seriously, with all the talent you and your sons have, painting should be no big deal for you guys. I have been doing my own painting since I was 17 years old. You will probably never see one of my paint jobs at Pebble Beach or the GNRS, but I can hold my own on a street driven vehicle. Started out in the old days with lacquer; if you screwed it up, wait an hour to sand it out and do it over. It's a bit different now days (no lacquer!) and materials are more expensive, but there are some materials that are pretty user friendly...
Yep, TEE-shun...

So, do you think I can get this Tiziano Vecelli guy to paint my car for me? :D
Jim, I can spray mine, but with the money and years Dan has in his he want's it as good as possible. I know my limitations and even with a good downdraft booth dirt still gets in.
We have some time yet because Dan is working on getting the stereo installed now........as if he will be able to hear it over that Olds!:LOL:

Looking good Don!!!!!!

Thanks Earl. Didn't get anything done tonight, Mondays at work are usually tough and I come home and veg out. Plus, it has been so #*&&& hot here this Summer. I did drop off my wheels at the powder coater this morning, should have those on Friday. Now I just have to make up my mind on what tires I am going to run...............decisions, decisions.
I felt kind of wasteful yesterday. I had the tires dismounted from my wheels and the ones on the front only have 500 miles tops on them but are 9 years old, so I won't run those again. Hate to put brand new looking tires in the dumpster, but better safe than sorry. I have heard old tires blow apart with little warning.
Don
Is this the color you guys are refering too?
