See Don,that is so funny thankyou and now I will wait for Uncle Bob response..LOL
I don't think he will be on for a while Whiplash. He's all tuckered out from all the celebrating he did at his YOUNGER Sisters birthday party.:p:LOL:
(Man, am I asking for it or what!)
Don
Trouble maker,Don..:LOL:I gotta agree with Whiplash on this one,,the ragging between you guys in particular, makes it enjoyable to be here..May be a good thing you are so far apart[in distance]..
I guess Bob is busy looking through his private picture collection, just trying to find that perfect "cutie" to post on here.
In the meantime, I have gotten a little more done on my 27. I got the grille insert painted gloss black and the parts I ordered from OTC for my Guide headlights came in, so I got those put together too. My headlights were in really nice shape but I had robbed the chrome trim rings off of them to use on my 23 when I built it. So it was time to replace those with new ones. OTC makes every part for these old Guide lights and their quality is first rate. I'd recommend them to anyone.
So the grille shell and headlights are now mounted, and I also got the windshield back from the glass shop. He did an ok job and was able to cut my existing glass, so the Lucky Lady decal stayed intact. :) I like the windshield much better cut straight across the top instead of curved, like I had it.
Here are some pictures from tonight, just a few things to do and I can put the body on.
Don
Whizzing along there Don, looking forward to seeing the finished pics :)
Steve, I was wondering what you were doing up at 4:30 am, then I realized you are in England. We just got in from the shop, burned a little midnight oil tonight. Have to do that because of the heat during the day. It was 96 in the shop when we got there this afternoon.
Don
Looking very cool there Don. I was out in New York a few weeks ago and forgot what heat and humidity feel like. I can't imagine turning a wrench in a unairconditioned shop when it's hot and humid at the same time. I guess you could always go for a swim being so close to the ocean. When I lived on big Pine Key, I used to start sweating the minute I dried off from a shower! But the benes of living on the water made it worth it!:D
Thanks Steve. Yep, the heat has been brutal this year. Lately it's gotten into the Summer pattern of raining almost every afternoon, and sometimes that brings some relief but sometimes it just turns it into a sauna. The first thing we do when we get to the shop is turn on the ac in the office so that we can go in there for a cold drink and a little break every so often. It's just unbearable in the shop, and you keep sweating into whatever you are working on. I guess the term blood, sweat, and tears really does fit working on a car in the Summertime. :D
Like I mentioned, we have become nighttime car builders. The other night I went there at midnight and it was finally bearable enough to get some stuff done. Can't wait for late fall to come.
Don
Heck guys all this talk about summer heat and sweeting is just making me envious as our weather has turned very wet, winding and cold, but it is winter down here.
Yes that screen does look better straight across Don, and that chopped '32 grille is just awesome. Now question time and this may cause a smile on your face, but don't you fellas have modern radial tyres over there yet or is NZ just ahead of you fellas in our tyres???:LOL::LOL:
I think I vaguely remember hearing something about radial tires, but I personally have never seen a set Whiplash.:D I've always been a bias ply kind of guy, but I am definitely going to put a set of Diamond Backs on my 46 when I do it. I had a long talk with a vendor at Turkey Run last year and looked over some of the ones he had there on display. I'm very impressed, they look very close to bias plies but I bet they ride and handle better, especially on a heavier car like the 46. I admit bias plies aren't perfect, but they work well for me and I do like the old timey look of them better than most radials, especially on a fenderless car..............but that is just me.
Didn't get a whole lot done today, had to refinish a chest for my bedroom, so that took up most of the day. But my license plate light and frame came in from Bob Drake, it is a knock off of the old Hollywood light that are getting hard to find. I have an original on my 23 that I scored on Ebay and one more I am saving for the 29 RPU when I do that one, but this repop is really very nice, and it has no shelf rash like most of the old ones you find.
I was proud of myself, I actually drilled the two mounting holes in exactly the right place for a change. Usually I have a bunch of holes around the one that finally fits, or else some holes that I oblonged to get them to work. Maybe I'm getting better or just lucky this time. :o
Don
Don i do like those license plate lights, don't think i've seen them here ?
I'm with you on the tyres, we call them crossplys here. Radials are fine on a fendered car but nothing beat a cool looking crossply on a fenderless car (in my opinion)
I like the old tyres as they break away slowly unlike radials that just go.
Hottest day of the year today, gonna be 30C which i believe is around 90F, humid though :(
Oh no Don,
My image of your building skills has just been dashed. I thought I was the only one who needed to drill 5 holes to get 1 good one and yesterday I had to oblong 3 holes for new body mounting nuts. Seriously, all looks good.:)
Jack.
I prefer to think of all those extra holes as lightning holes Jack. I figure I save .0005 ounce every time I misjudge where something goes. As my eyes get worse over the years my cars tend to weigh less and less.
Wow Steve, 90 in England, that's unusually warm, isn't it? With Global Warming Sue won't have to escape to Florida now to get her tan. :D I was surprised too to see Bob Drake repopping those lights. Very nice quality and stainless steel too.
Don
For you it would be a shorter trip than for most....
Soooo, I take off on a road trip away from the 'puter for several days and it's pile on time huh?:D
Well I can't let our Kiwi mates down.
You guys may have heard that Pops is currently unemployed, but fear not, we caught a pic of him on his way to a job interview.......he should be a shoo in! Notice he's got his favorite colors on........... I thought the man purse was an especially stylish accessory...........he's such a clothes horse!
[QUOTE=Bob Parmenter;390747]For you it would be a shorter trip than for most....
Soooo, I take off on a road trip away from the 'puter for several days and it's pile on time huh?:D
"Road trip, road trip ?":LOL: Well, I guess running down to the store for smokes in your car COULD be considered a road trip. At least have the decency to put your shirt on Bob.:D
Don
PS: I didn't get that job BTW. They said I was overdressed or something like that, but I think it was age discrimination personally. (and it isn't a purse, it's a Manbag)
Welcome back from your looooong road trip Uncle Bob, where are the photos and running dialogue on the big trip???
That photo of your latest project is a good one,but one would have to be careful throwing the man bag into it as the sills (rockers) panels look really strong.:HMMM:
Well Whiplash, Bob is a little down right now. His roadtrip took him to his heros home town in Connecticut, only to find out he doesn't live there any more. Something about they rode him out of town on a rail.:LOL::LOL:
Don
Ouch! Nice one Don and I am in love with the new ride, very cool.
Thanks Brick. Lord knows that is just .0000000001 of a payback to Bob for the "cutie collection" he has adorned my threads with over the years. I still wonder where he comes up with them.........coincidence, I think not.:LOL::LOL:
Don
Ol Pops likes to "spread" it on thick.............but can't figure out why most folks ain't likein' the taste of it anymore.:D
:LOL::LOL: That's pretty good Bob. I have to admit, even I am a little disappointed in some of the things he has done. I guess history will tell.
Don
Now tell us fellas from the lower half, is that sign for real, " Apology for allowing George W Bush for been born in there state??" And I am not into politics and just follow it as an interest, but I don't think I would like to be an elected member of government over there. I do like the new spread though and what price does it sell for on the shelves???:HMMM:
Oh, we Americans have come a long way. We used to hang Public Officials we didn't like, now we are much more civilized. Connecticut had the choice of either apologizing or we were going to give the State back to England.:LOL::LOL:
Don
....sigh...
I believe the concert in question was in Europe....don't think a lot of those folks voted for Bush.:) The people at that concert cheered.....it was the folks back in the US that got angry.
PS: Don't forget.....that sign was paid for out of the public coffers....I would think some folks would be upset about that.

Hehe, come on guys, it was just a funny picture.:LOL::LOL::LOL:
Don
Thanks Don, lets all get back on track with helping Pop Don with his build and forget the politics of the country or any other country for that matter and lets all remember that these pictures are all about fun that we post at each other every now and then. On a serious note please remember what is written in the Bible," all mankind are born into sin,and the only true leader of this world is God our Heavenly Father" and in the book of Revelation he will return and concur the evil one that is in charge of this world at the moment.
I know,I know religion and politics should be mentioned but ain't we all adults on this site unlike another Hotrod site that I visit occasionally where bad language and name callin is exceptable and the norm.
Yes we are all entitled to our own view of who is or was a great leader, but lets all look at the large picture of what is happening around this world and be thankful that we live where we do, warts and all.
Again Don,I am sorry for my little part in your thread getting a wee bit off track and I hope we sit back, have a laugh at it, and get back to hot rod ribbing ,humor, and encouraging each other.
No, don't apologize, I actually enjoy it when a thread derails for a little bit and actually do it to myself quite a bit. Every once in a while I throw in a cat or some other diversion just to keep things from getting too boring. Some of my "updates" are pretty lame on their own............if I put a new bolt on the car I do a new post. :o
I'm kind of at a standstill right now anyway because the next step before the body goes on is to bend up a new roll bar. That is something I need Dan to help me do because he is very good about measuring things so they come out exactly as they are intended. If I bend it the thing will be too wide or narrow to fit the existing mounts on the frame. I just don't want to take any more of his time right now because he gets so little free time to work on his own car that I want to help him get his finally into primer. The plan right now is for us to work on his this Friday, his day off, and try to get it primed Sunday.
Don
Last night I decided to take the bull by the horns and bend up my roll bar by myself. Dan was working late and I figured how hard could it be to do it by myself, as long as I measured carefully. So I did just that and luckily it came out just the size I needed. I had a chrome roll bar on the car originally but had to cut it off because it rusted on it's mounts from sitting all those years and I couldn't get the body off without removing the roll bar.
Next week I plan a trip to the chrome plater in Lauderdale because Dan has a bunch of stuff like his nerf bars, hinges, etc that need dipped too. It is only a couple hour drive and will save me boxing and shipping the parts to them. I'll take this new roll bar and get it chromed then too.
Now for the big news............tonight Dan and I slipped the body back on the frame!!!!!!! :D I couldn't wait to see it in place and I am happy beyond belief at how it came out. I was worried that it would be too much black, but it has enough chrome and polished aluminum to break it up. I love the satin and can't imagine the car any other color.
Here are some pictures, tomorrow I'm pushing it outside for some better shots and to get a look at it in the daylight. I tried talking Dan into pushing me around the block but that didn't fly.
Don
Yee haw !!!
Looking good Don .... did you make the vroom... vroom sounds when you sat in it??
Paul
Don, the Hot Rod looks really good and the 41 Chevy tail lights fit right in. It also looks like it could have been a cover car for and early 60's Hot Rod Magazine.
Richard
Thanks guys. No vroom vroom noises, but I sure did sit and stare at it a lot. :D Now that it is going together I wonder why I let it sit for these past 11 or 12 years without doing anything with it earlier. Life just gets in the way sometimes.
One problem I am going to have is that the drivers side valve cover will never come off with the body in place. The tall valve covers just clear the firewall by a tad even with the additional clearance the fiberglass guy was able to give me. I guess I'll just have to unbolt the body and lift up the front a little if and when I need to get it off.
Don
And yes, the red distributor cap will be painted black. LOL
