Bob although I`m new to this site I`ll be watching your build on the `37, as I also have a `37, mine is almost done although they are never really done....already started to change to change things....:3dSMILE:
Lookin good!
Lot's of Ford stuff there.
Xploder wheels n I recognize the headers too.
Any progress yet on getting the steering done?
Would love to see some pics.
You're makin this look easy!!!
MLW that was the theme all Ford , the steering I do have some wood dolls and some pin & block universals to figure out the routing .
The making it look easy was with the advice of a lot of board members here . They are the one's who guided me through what you see . Also I did make mistakes and redid them , don't really think I could start one and not have any , many variables here .
Setting up 8 inch today got the spring mounts cut off . This is embarrassing after I started with the cut off wheel I remembered I had bought the plasma cutter :p sure made quicker work of this . Prepped up and getting ready to tack in 4 bar link mounts , now all I have to do is stop at the box store for wire since I am out .

New add just found this on Craigslist and a deal was struck . I pick it up in the morning . I always wanted a stock looking interior for the the 31 and the sh&t pile turned into a rose . Good buy well worth the 1 hour or so north of me . It has a little rodent work done but I think that will add to the patina what you think .
Nice score!!
Regs
Regs its a Lebarron Bonnie for $300 so perfect .
Great find Bob...!
Hey Rich now hope one comes up for 37 this way :D , highly doubtful though
It will, no doubt, I just noticed your from New Lenox, we used to live in Bensenville, about 100 miles north...small town life, I miss it...!
Know where it is . But a lot warmer out there in CA. right now .
We had a week of 28 degree mornings, in the valley here, I think I lost a couple of young lemon trees, right now its average is about 50 to 58....rough weather here..
Lookin' good Bobby!!! Used to have a posi unit for the 8", Howard got it from me couple years back though.... Should have one more, think it's temorarily on the MIA list...... Think that's kinda like forgetting you have a plasma cutter......
Ha the plasma was sitting right outside the entry door , have to walk around it :).
Rich we had a week of around 4 degree mornings Highness out in the 20's when the sun was out .
Today also picked up some bigger rubber 265-70-R15 on vintique wheels good price , along with a set of used Carrera coil overs

These sure fill up some of that hole that was there compared to the 235's

Nice score ..... I dig the taller tires.
Ratty 46
Thanks Regs I was looking for taller tires when I got the 235s . Figured they would get me started . Best deal here is the car will be on some shocks and sitting right (hopefully) what I am looking for .
Bobby,
As for as I'm concerned you can't put a tall enough tire under there. The more you fill that opening up the better. Just my 2 cents :D
Ken
Ken been seeing that a lot myself they do look so much better . I kept looking at the 235s and they started looking like 15 inch on a monster truck . Ken you have a great 2 cents by the way :D .
One more good score today , Picked up the torque converter and flex plate for the AOD . Along with them cam a couple Ford aluminum drives shafts getting closer to locomotion here .

Did a little slide over for a sneak a peek . Wow effect I get even undone .

Worked at placing the rear end into position . I didn't like the large gap from tires to fender so I got them tucked up a little farther in .
This will also help me parallel the 4 bar level to the ground which has not been at all . So I will be working this over the next week .

Bobby,
How are you doing that?
Ken
Make a little spacer out of 2 inch to lower front mount a bit . Other wise I will have to put the rear in the back seat , If I wanted to run skinny tires it would work fine .
If you have a Idea my ears are open , it's off about a 1 1/2 to 2 inches for level .
I'm not understanding what you are using the 2" block for or where it goes, sorry I'm getting old.
Ken
Top pick of the 3 . I will cut down a piece of 2 inch square stock and place it between the frame and the front 4 bar mount . This will add a little to frame on the bottom , and lower the 4 bar mount the amount I will end up needing .
The aperture of the pic doesn't show it but I have a lot of room to scrub line . Also the rear end is much higher now then in this pic so the add to frame will not be that thick . . My lines aren't the best but black line shows what I mean .
Well last night and today I learned a lot . The bars was too long to work with Heidts install directions . They interfered with the running board mounts . Been looking and mind working this a long time . They would only push rear end to far back if I followed them .
I ended up shortening the bars 3/4 s of a inch and added a 3/8 th spacer to the front mount to drop it down and make them level . I guess this is building a Rod but I figured Heidts had did all the engineering on this . More like a fit all kit and you have to make adjustments to get it working right .
I had the rear end as high as I wanted it , so this was my fix .

Looks good ....... when it doesn't hit - cut & weld it!
RATTY 46
Would the spacer on the axle end of the rods (like lowering blks)work that way it would clear the frame and still put your axle up where you want it, I am just curious not trying to tell you how to do your car.
The seats covers look great, those are going to be good looking seats for sure.
Tony the axle is as high as i want to go with it , this will allow for 29 inch tires easily . the spacing of the front mount just needed a tad to level out the bars .
Up in the air again and shoeless . This will be nearing the end of frame work real soon . 4 bar link is in and solid in position .
Tomorrow I will start on the shock install , the one's I have right now are Carrera 15 inch open . I will test fit these to see how they will set . I have a set of 17 inch open coming soon and will try these also .
What is the maximum you can angle a shock as not to stress it and get the ride quality from it as designed . I was going to run a 15 degree angle but though the longer ones may need more ??
http://inlinethumb31.webshots.com/46...500x500Q85.jpg
Oh and welding on the second day has picked up better . This is a skill you need to keep up practice on . It has been month's .
http://inlinethumb52.webshots.com/43...500x500Q85.jpg
Ah ..... the welding IS looking better ...... make sure you go ALL the way around the hanger. Also don't be afraid to turn the heat up a notch. Whilst your welding the area you are moving away from should be a nice hot colored orange for a few seconds.
I do not have an answer for the shox ...... I've always drag raced and/or used stock locations.
REGS
Best to not exceed 20 degrees...Bigger angles are smoother rides, Bobby. Handy chart in the Speedway catalog for ya to look at.
Regs thanks , yeah I am sinking the wire in and it glows for a bit when I am done . Trying to keep it warm for the welding and ping them in some .
Thank You Dave I appreciate the help . Smooth is what I want not the bounce down the road from hard hitting .
When I built my `33 I used the same formula from speedway, worked great...
I used the same formula on my 48 and she rides really nice, I am liking that red frame 406rich, looks like shes getting close to having the body on permanent huh?
Well this morning I finished up the mounts to the rear end . I then just welded some bolts to frame for a trial fit . The spring on the shocks seem light weight I don't know what they are bought them used . So I set them up at 15 degrees and will adjust from here either different springs or 10 degree setting .
If I remember right I work with some one who once mentioned he made a spring rate tester .
