Blew Out Tire, damaged steel fender on 1 week old 34 2-Door! help!
had a blow-out tire at speed and pretty well mangled my passenger fender on my 1934 Ford 2 Door (purchased last week!).
When talking to a buddy, he mentioned that I may have to replace the "skin" on the fender. When questioning him, he told me that the fenders are coated with fiberglass. ( I see a thick layer of material between the paint and underlying steel.)
Is this normal, necessary, &/or easily repaired by my usual paint/body man? Is this layer essential just "Bondo"? Why is it used?
Links to the pictures are below. I would appreciate some comments/reassurance/guidance.

Is this a steel car with original steel fenders? If so the fenders have no skin. The stuff is most likely bondo in which case the bondo will have to be removed to work on the fenders. I could be wrong...but I have never seen a Ford (or any other make) steel fender with a fiber glass coating. Let us know how it goes.
Jack.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
The first model car I built was a 32 Ford roadster by Revell in the mid 50's.
How did you get hooked on cars?
