Gas Tank in Pickup bed - +'s and -'s?

Hey guys,

What are the pluses and minuses of the gas tank in the bed instead of underneath? (other than the obvious of limiting rear storage?

How do the chromed tanks do sitting out all day in the hot summer sun? :confused:

shame you live so far away, I've got a 76 gallon bed tank I don't use anymore. Polished aluminum.

76 gallon!? Holy smokes. That's not a tank its a pool. Ha.

Wasn't as big as you'd think, it took up the space a bed tool box would have.
I had no problems with it.
In my case, a 89 F250, 7.3 liter IDI diesel, I was making my own fuel, and could carry 76+19+19 onboard, had an effective range of 1,600miles.
I was using the factory camshaft operated lift pump. Since the two factory tanks used a 6port Pollack valve, I added two, 3 way valves from Mcmaster carr... (bout $30 a peice).
This was a diesel, where I needed the second valve for a return line, I'd assume with a gas burner, you'd only need 1 valve.

I don't know the legality regarding gasoline storage.

Hey guys - still looking for some info. The pickup I'm looking at purchasing has a pill capsule metal tank in the bed behind the cab. Have been looking for similar designs online but can't find them on jegs, summit, or fuel safe. Just looking to learn what these are - tanks or cells - being I see them on a lot of pickups. Have used the search feature and learned about the foam in cells, etc. but very few pictures in the threads. thanks.

I've got a tank in the bed of my '71 and had them in some other pickups... No big deal as long as they are secured properly....

Just don't vent it into the bed.
