Didn't know any auto manufactures made such an animal. I know during the war a number of car were turned into trucks of sorts, with such an add on bed. I have read that this way they could get more ration stamps, and easier to get tires as those were rationed also. Another reason may have been the fact truck were scarse as all that were manufactured, and held from the market were for the war effort. Might be interesting for a period restoration, with a unique twist.........Quote:

I couldn't see the link Rich posted, it said the Craigs List had expired, but I assume you're talking about one of these. I took these pics at a small monthly cruise-in last April. At first I thought it was homebuilt and wondered why someone would do this to such a nice coupe. Later in the year I saw it again at the Tampa NSRA Nats where it won an award. During the award presentation it was announced this was a very rare original that Chevy had built back in the day.

Yes, Mike, the slide-in bed portioin was what was in the craigslist ad. It had been made into a trailer. Thanks for posting the pics of how it's supposed to look but I still think it looks a little weird! LOL! I'm sure it came in handy back in the day.....:)Quote:

Not a new concept really. The early Model T's had a rear "turtle" that could be replaced with a truck bed. Pretty good concept actually.
What is that above the rear window on the green chevy? :confused: That doesn't look original..
Perhaps a rear view camera. He might use it for backing the trailer.
When I was a kid my father had a '28 490 Chev that had been converted to a pickup. Nothing fancy, just something he used for going in to his hunting camp before he bought a Jeep. It was actually the first vehicle I drove at age 11 or 12. There seemed to be a lot of similar conversions back then but none that were factory.Quote:
