I got in a little garage time today but don't have that much to show for it.

I'm fitting the "new" deck lid and trying to reshape the old tailpan to fit it better.

The gap on the left is slightly larger than the right and the right would even be tighter if I didn't have that stick in there. Hopefully, since I cut out the tailpan I can tweak the sides to fit the lid a little better.
Whoever installed this tailpan back in the day left it long on the sides and just tucked it in under the quarter panels, welded it, then filled the gap up with lead. I cut it down the seam they made which left a double thickness of metal on the sides.

I didn't take any pics of it but I spent some time trying to reshape the tailpan to better fit the bottom edge of the lid before I start smoothing out the dents. At different points during the day I was tempted to go inside and order a new panel but then I kept asking myself who has $600 for that?? Not me! I can't give up that easily! I have an aquaintence with a bunch of metal shaping tools & experience. I'm going to get him to take a look at it to decide my next move.....

This is my inspiration! I want it to look close to this when I'm done!
Yes, I have me work cut out for me....
