You might want to look into welding the collector to the header and adding a v-band type flange on the collector for the pipe if you have the room. You eliminate the possibility of leaks at the collector gasket that way and make removal and replacement a lot easier. Just a suggestion.

The Eagle Diamond may have been transported to its discovery site in southeastern Wisconsin by glaciers during one of the Ice Ages. The disappearance of the original diamond makes it impossible to determine its actual point of origin, but several kimberlite pipes have been discovered in the Northwest Territories, Canada."
That is very interesting. I've tried getting in touch with the owner before the guy I purchased the truck from, but no luck yet. This morning I got the head lights and turn lamp housings all replaced on it. Someone hit something with the RH front fender and broke all the plastic stuff. I have big plans to convert this truck to 4x4 and put a 6 cylinder in it later on. For now, I'll drive it until the 7.3 needs some big money part. I also installed some LED head lights and had to replace the clearance lamps because they were cracked and had water in them. I drove it to work today. Hey, I have a truck with AC now! :LOL: This one might be a keeper. Haha
Yesterday during the torrential down pours more parts from Hot Heads arrived! Luckily the box didn't get very wet with the direction of the winds. I know I was a little skeptical about buying the headers, but they are so much nicer than the garbage ones I had first.
I went ahead and lowered the steering column down and left the engine where I placed it the other day. I will have to lower my steering shaft idler mount, and get a longer piece of the double D shaft, but it is all going to work and have enough clearance to fit nicely.
I will cut off the flange on the headers and weld on a v band. The biggest reason I have to do that is because these headers hang so far down. I won't be able to put a 90* on there right now without being below the front cross member. Right now I'm searching for some super tight radius 90s, and then we'll be good to go!
Here are more pics of the headers and engine placement I'm going with. Hopefully this weekend I can find the time to build the engine mounts and transmission mount. Then it will be time for the rear suspension.

Not sure if it helps but the round part just above the flange at the bottom of the header looks like an inch maybe an inch and a half could come out and it would add some clearance?

The carbs/distributor clearance is sure tight but looks like it does give you enough room for everything. It will be interesting to see what you decide on for air cleaner(s).

Man oh man, those hemi's take up some real estate in an engine bay for sure. Very impressive though and next tim I'm out at my friends hot rod shop, I capture some photo's of his " spare hemi's " in his engine rack and the monster one sitting in his '60 Corvette. I have another friend who has a hemi powered fibreglass 32 Roadster that is patiently waiting for a rebuild of the whole car from frame up. I find the photo of it taken way back in the '70's of it and post it up.

That motor is the best. It looks great in there and nice work making it fit !!
I'm partial but they are one of the best looking hot rod motors ever I think, you will never regret the added work or expense it will take once its done. Dont forget to leave some sort of room to get the valve covers off, and put a set screw with silicone or pipe tape in the bottom of the valve cover bolt threads, that way if and when you pull off the covers (if you use bolts and not studs, on tight engine bays you cant use studs as you have to pull the cover up and over the studs on aftermarket covers) you wont see water oozing out contaminating your oil, as they go into the water jacket. Thanks Matt, I'm planning on using studs on them. I did notice it has 2 bolts on the bottom of them though. I'll have to check for set screws in there.
I didn't get any time to work on it this weekend. Saturday was honey do day. I took the boys to get their hair cuts. While we waited on the girls to get their hair cut, I went to my parent's place and grabbed some metal to build the engine mounts for the 40 out of. Then it was off to meet the girls for lunch. Afterwords the boys and I headed home. I talked them into picking up sticks up for me while I unloaded their new to them bunk beds. We got their old beds torn down and put away, and the bunk beds hauled up the stairs, assembled and put together before we had to leave for dinner.
Sunday was honey do day for my mother. My Dad just had his hip replaced on Friday. One of my mom's horses walked through a fence Sunday morning. It ended up being too windy to finish putting her pool up, so my wife and I removed old rotted wood, and put up new fence boards and some posts. In the afternoon my mom brought my Dad home. I helped him in the house and returned to take the fixings my wife brought to make dinner for everyone. As I went up the stairs to the deck, they crashed out from under me. Good thing that didn't happen 2 minutes earlier when Dad was on them. So, my next project was to build new stairs going on the deck for them. Good thing Menards isn't too far away. Haha My middle brother did help do that project. We got done at about 11:30 last night. Boy, I sure do get a lot of stuff done. :LOL: Maybe someday I'll be that productive on my stuff. Hahaha
It is certain gratifying when you can help your parents out like that and all live close enough to be able to spend time with each other and especially sharing meals as a close family.

I was pretty tired before I got on the computer, now I'm pretty much wiped out after reading what you did last weekend :LOL:
This morning I dug out the 8.8 that I got weeks ago. I drug the plasma cutter out and cut off the 4 unusable mounting brackets from the explorer. I also removed the counterweight/shock mount on the pinion, and chopped off the frozen park brake cables. I also cleaned the axle tubes up where the new brackets will be going. I will have to do more once I establish where the upper mounts are going to be going. It doesn't look like much got done, but there were 8 welds to cut and grind without getting into the tubes. :LOL: I left the sway bar mounts on there because I am going to try to re use the sway bar that came with it.
Oh yeah, I also saw this setting out in front of a Pizza Ranch over the weekend. I didn't walk over and check it out but it looked pretty cool to me.
Bigger block Mr Chevrolet in the tiny little roadster should make her sit up and take notice when the loud pedal is pressed on I would believe. Cool little car and certainly has that smile per mile look about her.

Yours was a rusty mess too. Still a nice setup and cheap also. I have about a 1/2 mile of road time on mine and no problems yet :LOL: I drove the 53 on the trailer tonight to get it to the alignment shop and the posi track works good. Of course we had an inch of rain so it took a few moderate speed runs to get it up the ramps **) I don't recall the sway bar brackets on mine, but I'm sure it had them.
If I was going with coli overs, I probably wouldn't worry as much about a sway bar. But with the air bags, I think it'll help it handle better. We'll see if it'll even fit first. :LOL: I got a welder series sway bar kit for the front. After I get the rear suspension started, I'll worry about that sway bar. :LOL:
I spent late this morning after work, and a few hours before work getting the rear end centered and square under the car. What a total pain in the rear. Hopefully this is where I want it. :LOL: The 2x4 is there to help simulate the ground since the car is up off the ground. I went ahead and raised the rear height up from where I originally had it. It can always come down with a touch of a valve. Now to get the suspension put on and tacked in place.....
I received my V bands the other day. This morning I used the death wheel on the angle grinder and cut off the flange from the header. I used pliers to roll the collector to get my 2.5" V'band to fit snug. Then I welded the V band flange on. I got some tight radius 90s off ebay, that weren't tight enough. I cut it flat as far down as I could to get more clearance for the exhaust and welded the other V band on. I'll test fir it this weekend. Hopefully it is enough. Can't really take too much more off the header. I have dual braided SS flex joints coming that will go on the end of these 90s and then a v band will be behind that to make taking the exhaust off easier.

I haven't gotten much 40 time lately. We had a last minute camping trip last weekend, and I used up all of Saturday taking the boys to a large semi show. They loved it, so it was worth it.
I haven't gotten any rear suspension tacked in the 40 yet. I was setting my pinion angle and wouldn't you know it the rear end moved off my make shift stands. So I spent more time getting it back in place. I finally got the pinion angle set and have the lower bars almost ready to tack. I have to modify my lower mounts to fit my axle tube and then I can tack them in place.
My uppers are a different story...... The LH one is cake. The RH one lands on top of the web on the cast portion of the center section. I thought and thought and decided on making a mild steel bracket that will bolt to the housing. There are 5 bolt holes to mount a bracket to. 2 on the web just above the axle tube, and 3 to the right of the pinion. I thought of doing a truss, but I will kill my trunk space if I do that. This bracket should work fine once I get all the gussets on it etc. Pics on that tomorrow hopefully.
Today my little shop helpers were on the loose too. Hey, where did that tape measure go I just had? :LOL: (The kids swiped my phone and were taking pics. Can you tell? Haha)
Things are moving slowly here. I got the RH bars tacked in place. I have to make new tabs for the LH upper link for on the housing. Hopefully I can get that done and get the LH bars tacked on tomorrow and check the articulation out.
I got the engine mount stands made and am still working on getting the LH upper housing mount made. Little by little I guess. :LOL:
That Hemi looks really good in there Ryan. Looks like you’re going to be in the same place I was with clearance between the crank pulley and rack,……close but adequate and almost a straight drop from the PS pump to the fitting on the PS rack.
I don’t know if you’ve figured out pulleys yet (looks like you’ve already changed out the upper one). A 3 or 4 groove BB Mopar lower pulley will bolt to the crank hub. I’m running a 3 groove on mine and using the outer groove for the belt.
If you’re interested the Federal (Mopar) PS pump I’m running on mine worked out good as far as pressure and turning the rack. I think there are some decent pictures in my build thread on how I adapted it to work on the Hemi.
That is going to be so neat when you get it going.
I did get mine aligned this week and was planning on trying to get a couple of small things taken care of so I could start driving it. That plan lasted until I get home to find a dust devil had gone thru the arena and taken the roofs on some of the tack buildings. The fun never ends around here. :LOL:

I think I got a big block mopar pulley for the bottom pulley per your Hemi Tech Info posts. (thanks again for those) I think I've got it in my cupboard of parts for the 40. Maybe some day I'll get to that point of installing the 340 balancer and installing the pulley. I'll have to check out your thread for the PS pump. I have a GM Saginaw one I was going to adapt to it but that was just plan A. :LOL:
I haven't had any time for the 40 lately. Between work, and getting ready for another kiddo, my brother moving and needing help moving, and the 3 kids, there's not much extra time. :eek: I always think of stuff I want to do or change on the car. I came up with an idea to make a bat wing air cleaner for on top of my carbs. I surely won't buy one for what they want for one. Then I had an idea. What has the similar shape as a bat wing air cleaner? The belt guards on a lawn mower deck! Luckily I have a friend that has over 150 lawn mowers. He had some extra guards laying around. I purchased 4 of them and will cut them how I need them to make my own air cleaner.
Now I have to decide how I want to do the actual air cleaners. the original ones have a housing around them and are under each side of the bat wing. I have an idea to get a couple of air cleaners off a Farmall H tractor, and modify them to hold 2 3" elements. Cut the bottoms to allow the air to be drawn through the covers. Or, get 2 6" or 7" air cleaner assemblies. Use them and attach one under each side of the bat wing. 2 7" air cleaners should allow for enough flow. I've found some high flow filters I think will work. I can't really do anything until I get the top built though so it all looks proportionate.
