I got the new to me hood scrubbed and got all the bird crap off it. I dropped it off to be media blasted so I can seal and prime it and begin it's demise. Here's another low 40 to help my inspiration. This one has a V butt windshield, which I wanted. I'm not sure now. I like that chrome divider but I like the crisp corner on the v butt too. His has louvers in the hood too. Nice touches IMO.

I haven't heard anything on the hood yet, but in a few days I will have a big surprise for everyone on here! The 40 is getting a cool addition.
In the mean time, I finally got something back to the car that never should have left it. The license plates. It's legit now.
I also had a local pin striper/artist draw me a rendering of the car. I'm going to have him do another with no bumpers and change the flames a little. He sure does great work!!!

3 weeks ago I was following a Make it Run project Steve Darnell was doing on Instagram. I follow his cousin Merlin Johnson and Merlin said that he was heading to Steve's so they could run up to Utah and pick up this cool low mileage 67 C30 camper. Well I'm a sucker for 67-72 chevy trucks, and those truck campers. Then I found out they were going to give away prizes during their trip. I followed along when I could and the camper was pretty sweet too boot. So on the last day I entered a give away. You just had to tag 3 people and post it. The next day I had a notification from Welderup. I saw the notification and thought, "Huh, that's weird. Why would they want to talk to me?" It was because I won the Fitech fuel management system they gave away!!!! :eek:**):CRY::D
At first I was thinking, nah, that was a fluke. I'll get a message later saying sorry there was a mistake. Nope, on Sunday Steve messaged me to get my info so the process could get started. Monday morning Fitech reached out to me and got my info so they could ship it out to me. Here's where it gets interesting. The kit was a retro LS kit that would allow you to bolt a throttle body on top of a carb manifold and run a LS with a 4L60/80E. I asked them if I could trade that for a dual quad setup and they agreed! I didn't push my luck and go for the power addder one because it was a big price gap. So now the 40 has dual quad EFI!!!!
My Tanks Inc tank will accept an electronic fuel pump so I need to get new fuel lines, and a fuel pump and the injection system will be ready to run.
How cool is that!! Congratulations, Ryan! They couldn't haver picked a better winner!
Congrats on the win. Now it's imperative that you get it back on the road.

I'm pretty excited about it. I've had a hankering for it since they first came out with it but I knew I wouldn't spend the money on it until after the car was all together. This might minimize bad ideas of a blower for a while too. :LOL:

Congrats on the win! Looks great on the engine. It would, however, look much better sitting on top of a 6-71 blower. Just sayin', of course!:D

The set up on the dual manifold works great to play with in your first go a round. When the blower comes, the set up goes right on top. Life could not be sweeter!
I don't believe these will work as draw through. I think you have to step up to the power adder set up and it comes at an extra cost. I didn't want to push my luck and ask for the higher set up. I felt I pushed my luck as far as I should. :LOL:

I'm surprised! I expect that you're right, but I would have thought that the "power adder setup" would be for turbo applications or ProCharger type setups blowing through the induction system. As it sits now it's "draw through", and on top of a Roots type blower it'd still be "draw through", just at higher rates of flow with the pressure boosted below the rotors. I would have thought that sitting atop the blower would just be like setting atop a bigger engine - just more flow.Quote:

That's what I thought too. I spoke with their tech guy and he said these don't flow enough air and can't provide enough fuel for a supercharger. I asked if it was an idle air bleed issue or? And he said they just don't work on blowers. They say no boost and naturally aspirated in the first paragraph.Quote:

He said no, they're not meant to be ran in boost applications because there is no boost regulating device on these and the programming isn't set up for it. He said the power adder setup they sell does all that. He did say that these would probably work if a person watched the AFR under boost and went in and tuned it according. Dam..... Yeah for sure! :LOL: I called a local shop that does a lot of EFI tuning. I spoke to him about my situation and what I wanted to do. He explained that the biggest problem is this system has 1 MAP sensor in it and it is only a 1 bar sensor. He says he doesn't know if it can be changed out and this ECU is also not programmed to read anymore than 1 bar. He doesn't hink he can change that. That would have to be a Fitech deal. He said we could give it a shot but he isn't promising anything.Quote:

I recently met a guy that is insanely awesome at painting. Not just laying down paint, but awesome graphics, designs, and flames. He loves to do flames. He knows a good friend of mine and he came over to look at the 40. My original plan was to mask off the flames on the car currently and just re paint the colors. Well, this guy gave me a pretty great price on re painting the flames after I paint the car.
So here is the dilemma. Do I continue to use my hot rod flatz satin black, or do I pony up and go base clear? The car doesn't need much body work to be nice enough in gloss but there will still be issues with it that won't qualify it as an actual show car. So, with that said, I am leaning towards using the satin black but I would like the shine. But I want to be able to drive the car and not be afraid of the kids scratching it. Because I know it's going to happen. They play in the thing all the time and I don't really want to take that away from them.
At this point I'm leaning towards just using the satin I have and letting this guy do the flames. Get the car back to where it was in my mind where my uncle would have had it if he could have. Then when the kids are more grown up actually put a show paint on it.
Cons to a base clear or single stage gloss paint IMO:
-More work to get it ready to paint
-It may not get done this year (again)
-Less money for other parts the car needs
-Not enough time to get body work done and the rest of the car
Pros:
It will be shiny but be delicate......
What are your guys' thoughts?
I have also decided I want to upgrade the gauges to Dakota Digital or Classic Instruments. I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out how to use the gauges I currently have and making them work in the car. The main problem being that my tach and speedo are 5". I might try to sell my gauges and sell some other stuff to get at minimum a DD VHX cluster. We'll see.
Next want is a V butt windshield. I've always wanted one but it may have to wait. The glass has to come out of the car and now would be the time to do it but the glass is fins now. Haha
Uncle Bob, do you have a preference on brand of window gaskets for these cars? My back glass gaskets are torn and someone used black rtv to cover the torn pieces up. I'm going to remove that mess and put new in. I am wondering if there are better seals to use?
On edit. I think I've decided I don't actually like either of the clusters I thought I did. Just something about them. I think I'll re think this before spending a grand and then ending up not liking the gauges.
I'm not a fan of flat paint or rusty rat rods, but that is my problem. I do understand the "too nice" aspect. I restored a camaro ss convertible that I had had for 18 years and I no longer enjoyed it after that. It was too perfect and just caused me stress, so I sold it. I don't want anything that nice again.
I am definitely NOT a fan of vbutt windshields, takes away the character of the car. But then again your car, your money and my .02 cents worth.
I agree! Just my opinion, I think the popularity of flat paint peaked about 10 years back, and "shiny" doesn't mean "show" to me. I would not worry about trying for "show quality" and just do a nice shiny paint job and then let your new friend flame it. You drive your vehicles, so spending huge $$$$$ on perfect paint doesn't seem smart to me. If your new friend is really good he can fix any scratches the kids leave behind, too.Quote:
