i was thinking about getting a set of these for my coupe. anyone know how they would sound with a 429 big block? i like that they look like the original mufflers. i have supertraps on there now but i dont care for the look sticking out the back of the car, even though they sound awesome. any info appreciated. :3dSMILE:

Gonna sound like you have no mufflers at all.
Just go with out them be about the same thing
I put a pair of 2 - 1/2 inch 24 inchers on my '59 Chevy Pickup (rrumbly 350) to replace a set of rusted out turbo mufflers. They sort of muted the sharp note of the open headers, but since I welded them to the header cones, and put a short turndown right out of the muffler, they were quite noisy; I could drive through a parking lot at just off idle and set off almost all of the car alarms in it. I put the truck in storage five years later, and they were so loud you had to shout to be heard around the truck.
I think a pair of Smithys steel packs would sound wonderful in your forty ...... but only if it had the original flathead in it.Quote:

From experience - your neighbors will grow to dislike you - and that was behind a flattie many years ago. They used to rattle door knockers. Another car, with a 'Y' block 312, my girl friend used to hear me go over the hill after leaving her off - and that hill, about a mile away.
wow i didnt know it would be so loud, thanks for the info guys. i guess i will go with a set of flowmasters instead. i like a good sound but dont want really loud pipes.

I have Flowmaster 50 series on my mild 302/5.0L - and while they are fairly loud, they aren't objectionable.
One thing about the Flows - some folks complain about drone and IMHO, it's something that has become something of an urban myth as I've never had it. Yes, it is possible for any vehicle to have a transient drone situation at a certain rpm and with any exhaust system
I've run smittys on my 427 Ford and they had a nice sound, only really loud when the hammer went down, sounded like a hotrod to me !!!
