That '62 diagram is the one I keep tripping over - no wiper circuit. The '63 (left) looks like what I think the circuit should be: Red to switch from circuit breaker (positive power feed), black from switch to motor (probably low speed), orange-black from switch to motor (probably high speed), blue from circuit breaker to motor (power feed to the park switch circuit). The park switch is internal to the motor, and not noted on the diagram.
YEAH, that's exactly what I was thinking :LOL::LOL::LOL: I hope Y'all know that I'm joking 'cause I don't have a clue :confused::confused::confused: I'm just in a silly mood this morning but it keeps me from throwing things that I have to replace later on **)
My problem is that "without" a complete rewire, I am destined to use ?part? of what the PO has done and apply it to Y'alls suggestions with my fingers crossed.
UPDATE: I pulled the switch out yesterday and pulled the two wires that were connected to it out this morning. If you will notice the pic below you will see a wire on the center right and one to the outer left - - - the one to the center right was originally connected to the wiper motor and the other was coming from the engine bay/battery? and was continuously HOT all the time even with the key off. There was another constant hot wire also hooked to the wiper motor that was spliced into the hot side of the brake light unit. NOW, or as of this morning, the brake light unit has only two wires as it's supposed to (?I think?) and if that "tiny" spark that I created didn't blow a fuse then I should still have brake lights - - - all the gauges still work and it cranked afterwards so ?maybe? that is a plus.
I'm thinking that I'll take the switch with me when I drive up next week to pick up the wiper motor that my buddy has fixed for me and get him to check it out and maybe draw me a diagram with "Crayons" (more my style) that I can bring home and wire with an inline fuse possibly???
Thanks for everyone's help on this I do appreciate it and couldn't have gotten this far without it. Now I'm headed to make a BR and then I'm kicking back in honor of all the real "Laborers" out there.

Here's the ?grasp? that I have on this wiper wiring so far.
1. The switch should be served with a fused hot wire when the ignition is on.
2. There should be two wires coming from the switch to the motor (one for low speed and one for high speed)
3. The wiper motor is grounded by "it's" mounting bolts and ?I think? the switch is also but it could possibly require a separate ground wire.
Am I even close?
Wiper motor wiring ususally will have 2 hot feeds to it---One will be ignition side so the wipers only work if switch is ON and also a hot feed to the motor to return the wipers to the stowed/parked position and will then be switched off---------hope that's understandable??????
Thanks for the reply, Jerry. That's what my buddy that fixed my Wiper Motor says but then I'm told that one is low speed and the other is high speed. I'll danged sure find out when I go up there and pick my motor up 'cause I'm gonna make him "PROVE" it to me and show me how to wire that ^%@^&%#@ before I bring it home and stumble into the installation.

I'm not sure that a '62 had a "park" feature. As I recall a lot of electric wipers in that era had to be turned off before shutting the key off or they would simply remain in last position, and "park" when you came back and started the engine again (assuming you turned the switch "OFF". Used to see a lot of cars with the wipers in mid travel on a rainy day, seems to me.Quote:

When you turned the switch to off, it didn't open (the switch) until the end of the stroke, my memory says fwiw...

Yep, your motor guy will know right off the bat from the motor inputs & limit switch wiring. If it doesn't have that third "hot" input running through a "park" position limit switch then you turn off the wipers before you shut down - not a big deal at all.Quote:

Drove up to my friends shop that had my wiper motor fixed and learned what I "need" to know about finishing up this project.
The motor has two hot leads going into it - - - one is run and one is park. I also took the switch and he figured out what I needed to do and recommended that I use the old switch even tho it's probably not the OE that came from the factory. Since I CAN NOT get under the dash to access the fuse block, I'm coming from the engine bay with an inline fuse and there will be an ignition served hot wire going into the switch and two leads coming from the switch to the motor. It gets it's ground from the mounting plate.
I'll let Y'all know if it runs and parks after I wire and install it.

Does anyone remember the scene in "True Grit" when Rooster Cogburn and Lucky Ned Pepper's Gang met on opposite sides of a aspen medow? Well, such was the case with the wiper motor and me today. I swear I heard the motor say "that's aweful strong talk coming from a one eyed fat man?"
I got every thing installed except the female spade connections on the three wires laying on the floor under the dash so I can connect them to the switch and install it and the "see if it works?" Not that much left but I was wrung out from contorting and sweating. Probably around #6 in my list of the hardest things I've ever done - - - not technical just too many birthdays and wild parties. The humidity hasn't been too bad in the mornings so maybe I'll luck out in the morning and finish this "ONE WAY OR THE OTHER"**)
After this it's get the tranny serviced and the mount improved and then start Cruising. :toocool:

Reading this as I just finished the last of the staining on the front of the house, temperature just hit 97F and humidity is high, I'm soaking wet with perspiration, and bone tired from toting the 28' ladder around and contorting my old body to get to the inside peak of the porch. Reeeeeaaaaly hard to feel much sympathy right now Em..... Temptation is to say "Get your butt......" but I'll be nice and respect my elders (not by much, but every little bit counts!!) Wouldn't want to be the cause of a Texas heat stroke. Tomorrows another day!! Carpe Diem!!
down here in Tejas we just say "Gap Open" (Rodeo term) but it means the same. Humidity is our worst PITA down here by the Gulf of Mexico - - - I don't think it got above 94 today but the temp doesn't seem to be "the" factor does it? Corpus Christi !!!!! When the plant I was working at was closing that's one of the cities they offered me to transfer to. Went there and couldn't wait to get back to the Midwest. It was early retirement for me.

Hooked the switch up according to my friend's diagram, turned it on and the wipers ran just long enuff to stop (park) in the middle of the windshield - - - - hopefully just incorrect wiring on the switch but for now I'm trying to talk myself outa setting the whole %$^@%# car on fire. If you don't see smoke or hear sirens then I might have opted for "hari kari" instead. JK JK JK JK

P.S. Nick, when the humidity starts taking your breath away, it's usually 24/7 but sometimes the wind direction will change at night and early in the morning and that helps but we predominately have a SE breeze and that's coming straight of the salt water a couple hours away. I have taken a shower and stepped out into a room that was air conditioned and started sweating before I could dry off completely. (go figure?)
If they parked in the middle of the windshield, maybe they are on the splines in the wrong place-----I suggest while they are parked there to remove them from the splines and reposition the wiper blades
And if you truly mean that they ran just long enough to park---then probably you powered the park wire -------
Thanks Jerry, I had wondered if moving their position was a possibility and you are probably right on with the power in the wrong terminal - - - thanks a lot, I'll let you know what happens
A suggestion---I'd forget the switch for now and verify that the motor/transmission works----Without the wiper arms on the shaft confirm that the motor runs continuously with the one feed and with the other feed it just goes to a park position and stops-------then you can install the arms in that position----
And maybe get a new switch

Hang in there, get a small portable fan and aim it at your head while working in there! It might help. Jerry's advice seems the way to go here. Wish I'd said it first! :)

OK Jerry and Rrumbler, I pulled the wipers off that had been on there since it left ?Dearborn? in '62 and surprisingly enuff, I didn't break anything in the process. Then I took some masking tape and wrapped around the splined units that the blades slip onto and kinda made a little mini-wiper so I could see what was happening when I threw the juice to them. Disconnected the wiper motor from the switch at the 2 connection plug and then took a test wire and connected one end to a hot lead with the ignition on and then touched the other to one connection coming from the motor and then the other - - - it did exactly what I wanted it to and it verified that the run wire and park wire were properly identified. WOO HOO
I either need to change some leads around on the switch and see if I can get it to work properly or get a new switch which I'm not opposed to at all but the old one is kinda nostalgic looking. In the morning I will switch the run and park wires to opposite terminals and see what happens. Do you think there would be a terminal on the back of the switch that could cause damage to the motor if supplied with power? ???wonder what the possibility is that the switch doesn't have a park terminal - - - hell, it's got about 8 I think?
The switch is simply that, a switch that directs power so there's not much way the switch can damage your motor. Do you have a Volt/Ohm Meter? A few minutes with a VOM and you can map out exactly what that switch is doing, and how to hook it up to make your motor work right.Quote:

Two ways to check the switch. 1) You can apply 12V with a test lead to the terminal that you believe is the "hot" input. What's to check? After running the motor, turn switch to off, after it has reached the "park position", re-install wiper arms in the "park position". Done!
Yeah, Mike, I accomplished that by bypassing the switch altogether but now the switch wiring is the issue - - - I have figured out where the park position is with Jerry's suggestion of bypassing the switch so now I gotta get the switch wired correctly. I may be able to figure out something with the meter using the continuity feature but we will have to see. ???

Just a point I want to make sure you have a grasp of-----------the hot wire feed to the park position does not need to go anywhere near the wiper switch---it just needs to be a fused wire that is hot all the time---the other feed for the run position needs to be a fused feed from a source that is controlled by the ignition switch in the ignition on position---------
OK, now I'm totally confused - - - - the new switch I am looking at has 4 terminals on the back of it
1. Power
2. Park
3. High
4. Low (my motor is only one speed)
There are two wires coming from the motor one is park and one is run and then I have a fused ignition serviced wire gong to the switch also.
