I know this is a silly question but here goes. Today I went to a car show. I turned off the car and fan ran until rad was cool then shut off. Three hours later it started to pour rain and I hear the fan running again. Checked temp and was cold? Why would the fan just kick on because it was raining. It wouldn't shut off had to pull wire off. Then when I left it was OK? That was really crazy! Thanks for the help:confused:
Was it hot enough under the hood to bring on the fan. Rain shouldn't have gotten under the hood to short out the sw. Maybe just one of those things that you'll never know?
Nah the car was ice cold. Just something crazy enough to drive you crazy I guess.
Perhaps the fan relay failed? It may be fail "on" so that you are not without a fan if it is needed? Going to have to do some circuit chasing to solve it, seems to me.
Agree with Roger, check the circuit for fan - relay, circuit breaker, hot in, ground, and signal from switch. If you ignore it, you may not have the fan when you need it.
Also verify the Ground hasn't shorted and is holding the relay closed (on) running the fan. ( Most "sending units" are actually grounding units) I'd start my search along the exposed length of that wire, see if it's chafed anywhere from rubbing against something.
