Pics & history from a new guy ('55 New Yorker)
Here's the short story on the car:
1) Believe I'm the second owner, never gotten a good answer on my title question. (I have the pink that issued 8/57, but the lien holder signature is in '59)
2) Owner died in '94 and wife left it in the garage.
3) Wife passed in '07 when the executor put it in storage.
4) When the estate was closing up in '13, I noticed in the final court papers the executor was donating the cars (a P/U, Taurus, & the New Yorker).
5) I worked with the Executor as part of my job and after some back & forth, he sold me the NY'er.
6) Freed up the rear driver tire (shoes rusted to the drum), got it home & washed it.
7) Changed fluids, plugs, cleaned fuel system from the tank to the Carb, flushed the radiator, new battery, replaced some nasty wiring and gave it a go. NO JOY. Would crank, but not start.
8) Mechanic buddy came over and we cleaned up the points, rotor, cap, etc. fiddled with the coil, and she fired up.
9) to date, I've rewired some; cleaned up, re-shoed, & turned the drums; cleaned up the master cylinder; rebuilt the carb; and drove her for a few months.
10) Engines out to clean it and paint it - all cosmetic stuff - replace gaskets, etc. also to clean up the engine bay and work on the front end suspension. Had the H2O pump, starter, & gen rebuilt; the radiator boiled & tested.
Here are some pics.
