If they did not rub last year, throw in a couple of spring spacers and see if it fixes it. If you live in a humid area chrome can start to rust quickly, usually a good chrome Polish will remove it and protect it from reoccurring for a reasonable amount of time.

I've dealt more with Summit than JEGS, but my experience with them standing behind their stuff has been excellent. I'd call them and talk through the situation, and follow up with pictures if they ask. Montgomery is closer to College Station than it is to Houston, so your atmosphere is not rust promoting, IMO. You may get some of the residual humidity from the Houston area, but it's not like you've been running the surf at Padre Island. If JEGS balks go direct to Cragar, and keep going until you reach the CEO by letter, explaining all the steps you take.

that's exactly what I've been doing, Jerry, but in a 3 phase back and turn and then forward and out - - it doesn't rub when I'm driving it but since I want to sell it, I need to get it fixed even if it's a band aid fix

I'm not sure I'd jump into the sell mode. As the primary care guy you need an outlet for the stresses of that duty. Unless you're in a place where you have to have the money it's not a bad idea to just sit on the Fairlane and have it in the wings when you have more time for it. Not wanting to butt into your business, but hate to see you sell the car if you don't have to....

American chrome ain't what it used to be.

Best bet for them is keep them dry and polished.

This is an update and a thanks to Richard, Roger and ETC for the advice on the problem of the Fairlane's front tires rubbing.

Since I plan on selling it, I decided to go with the screw in spacers for the front coiled springs. Took it to a young mechanic and long time friend and after 10 minutes it was "show room level again". He wouldn't let me pay him anything no matter how I insisted. I'll even up with him some way tho.

I pushed it pretty hard going home and even with manual steering it handled pretty nice.

So are you still set on selling the Fairlane, Mello?

Rog, one minute I'm dead set on it and then the Wiffy will have a couple of good days and I'll start thinking maybe I can still enjoy it some and then the roller coaster starts all over again. I'm certainly not going to give it away so that may take more time to find a buyer.

I'd still say hold off on selling unless you have a burning need for the money. There's always time to sell later, if it's the right thing to do. Unless owning it is creating a hardship keep it, IMO.

Did it have 13s as oem equipp? or 750x14?

Jerry, the P.O. (Barrio Bros) had changed the wheels to 16" in the rear and 14" in the front. They had also put lowering blocks on the rear and ?probably? heated the front coil spring and it was reeeeaaaal low. I found out after I got it home that they had also bottomed out the oil pan and rigged the drain plug with lots of oversized washers but it still leaked. OH WELL, I have since fixed the drain plug area, changed it over to 15" all the way around, taken the lowing blocks out and got the front raised (ie, this post) but I'm sure I'll find some more PO Demons before it's over. LOL
