I've seen a bunch of really nice hot rods with all of the lettering and symbols smoothed off. My understanding is that you start with something like 80 grit and work your way up to something like 320 grit to make them smooooooth. Not saying it's necessary, and the croc's are not the point, just intrigued by the concept of a vegetable peeler on a spinning sidewall actually doing the same thing....Quote:

Never shaved a tire, but I can tell you how to make your full moons look better than brand new. Jack up the diff and inch or so, start the motor and put the trans in reverse or low gear, using your whip as a large lathe. Use lots of WD40 and 80 grit wet or dry and sand them, then wash with detergent. Gorgeous.

I too have never heard of sidewalls being shaved; the only bloke I know of to take to his tyres with a knife was Burt Munroe...but only to cut a tread because he couldn't afford new ones.
