Brought home some Dodges
I seen these advertised on FB swap and for once I was the first one to message him 16 minutes after he posted it. Pretty much got about 2 whole Dodge pickups and a bunch of extra parts. The cab on my trailer is the most rust free cab of this vintage I've ever seen and I was glad to get a pilot house cab also. I think I'm going to swap the rear half of the pilot cab onto the nice cab. It doesn't show it on the pics but both boxes were chuck full of all the extra parts. The plan for this build is to either find a running V8 Dakota or use a Dakota frame with a 5.3, I read that is about the best fitting frame for 50's pickups. I'm not going to do anything to the body, going to leave it all natural I'm looking forward to this build after I get my wife a new kitchen I think I got a steal for $500Last edited by 53 Chevy5; 03-27-2019 at 08:38 PM.

......score !!!! (this was written in all caps, but this site won't allow you to do that). Here's an article I wrote many years ago that may be of interest to you. The other names on the top of the article are fellows who added a little something of their own along the way. You'll see at the bottom that this article has been accessed over 72,000 times......

I'm gonna guess the kitchen remodel won't be that cheap . But if you're going to have to do a comparative budget you'll have plenty for the truck(s). Good score!Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

You know that would be good candidate for late model Hemi!Mike

You're going to kill that patina when you put the pilot house rear on. Nice score! That's a great deal.Ryan

I thought the greens were a close enough match but they probably aren't. I got some figuring out to do yet, I may just repair the rust on the pilot cab if need be. I hope I can get it all to blend well, I might start messing around with some extra panels and see if I can perfect some faux patina. I really never care much for faux patina though, It's like faking a war wound.Last edited by 53 Chevy5; 03-28-2019 at 07:49 PM.

From what I understand, I thought the pilot cab is what Dodge called their 5 window cab. After some more reading , I'm not sure that's correct. I'm still learning this Dodge thing.Seth

Glad you liked the idea. Always happy to help someone spend their money!
Seriously, I don't know much about how difficult swapping the late model Hemi is, but I can tell you that I have a 5.7 in my 2013 Ram half ton and I have never wanted for more power. I think it was rated for 385 HP and would probably easily go over 400 without the cats and with a little tune.
Your truck would probably be much lighter than a late model Ram, so tire shredding performance should be a slam dunk with the Hemi.Mike

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
