Hey everyone i just bought me a 56 chevy handyman 2 door wagon.Its in decent shape and drives ok with a 350 and 4 speed super t 10 tranny that i dont know much about .Do any of you out there have 55-57 wagons.I have big plans for this old chevy.I want to keep the body original and put a modern drivetrain and suspension in it.Would love to hear from some of you about what you,and some tip of front end upgrades,17 or 18" wheels ,etc.
I had a '55 2 dr. wagon once. Never finished it tho. Got the frame off, Sandblasted and hat was about as far as I got. www.artmorrison.com makes a Tri-5 chassis. Looks like a triangulated 4 link rear w/IFS front.Quote:

I have a '57 2dr wagon that's mostly stock and a '55 2dr post with new everything that I just put on the road so I can compare the two.
The first thing I would do is go for a polygraphite front rebuild and a sway bar. The aftermarket is flooded with front end parts so clips and subframes are really no longer necessary. I would go to a rack and pinion steering system instead of wasting time and money on a bulky 605 conversion. drop spindles, airbags, coilovers, tubular a-arms...sky's the limit. The '56 2dr wagon is my favorite of the 3 years. Congrats on your find.

I have plans on painting it Black or maybe a 2 tone combo but thats down the road.The suspension is first.What brand rack & pinion do you guys think is the best and what about drop spindles,disc brakes and tubular control arms,springs.I think thats about it for the front end.There are so many brands of aftermarket parts out there its crazy.Good Guys is coming up soon here so i would like to get some ideas.Thanks.
