Oh so deep thinking children you called us bad names
Bottomfeeder,
Interesting series of posts, but standing up for your particular type of rod by knocking down every other one under the sun is more than a little hypocritical. Let's take a look at a few of your "points."Here's a little news for you, old son. Fools can't build street rods whether they have money or not. It takes skill and dedication to build any kind of street rod. Here's what fools do. Fools sit around and p-i-s-s and moan that nobody respects their ride. Fools think that lack of money equates to dedication.Quote:
Any fool should be able to make a street rod with loads of money. But it takes dedication to build a kool kar with no money.
Quote:
. . . you don"t (sic) have the time or dedication to build a real car than build a red glass kit car or order one from 1 800 red rods.
Let me get this straight. You were concerned about lack of respect for rat rods, and the way to rectify that is to tell everyone else what to build? If I can't or don't want to find an original body, then I should switch to something else? If I can't find an original coupe, then I should build a four-door.Quote:
I think the same about the steel repro bodies if a good rod body is not affordable try a newer car and have fun maybe even a 4 door.
Quote:
. . . glass bodys (sic) have a secondary place in the hobbie (sic)
Quote:
. . . but start with a real car, not a "plastic" one
So, I guess YOU get to decide what is REAL and what is not. Pretty hypocritical, since the whole point of your series of posts was to support your particular branch of the hobby. When you decide to leave office as lord high arbiter of what's right in the hobby, please let us know. We'll ALL need to know who to ask about our next REAL project. Give me your phone number so I can call you and get permission to continue my GLASS '34.Quote:
. . . you don"t (sic) have the time or dedication to build a real car than build a red glass kit car or order one from 1 800 red rods.
Here's a suggestion. Drop the paranoia for a few minutes and read what the folks said, NOBODY told you that rat rodders weren't as good as anyone else. They just said they didn't prefer rat rods. So freaking what? I don't like Volvos either. There's only one guy in this thread that seems to think he's more genuine than the rest. The name is at the top of this post. If you haven't figured it out by now, scroll up.Quote:
My only real point is that us bottom feeder types can only afford rough real steel patch panneld (sic) or 50s orphan cars and get a LITTLE ANNOYED when we get told that we arnt (sic) as good as those who order a replica from a shop because we arnt (sic) pushing the hobbie (sic) in the proper direction.
Us? You got a mouse in your pocket?**)Quote:

IMHO this is another thread that should be dead and buried.......Now can we go back to well written, informative posts and lose the "rat rods are the only real rods built" ??
Here's an Idea Brent. Why not start a new website for these fanatic rat rodders. CRR (club rat rod) I don't think they need a moderator. They all live the same "lifestyle."
enough is enough already gitting a littel tired ya got two threads going on that are saying the same rod are cool rat rod arent so what were ALL gear heads So with that said Im going out a waxing my ford comaro  oops chevy camaro  **) :whacked:
There is a real diferance between rat rodders and the others as at one time 25 some years ago I was a red show car owner with a room full of dust collectors but got sick of the krap and politics and moved on . A proud rat rodder for ever.
The only reason I'd do it would to be to rub the "purists" the wrong way. Seriously.Quote:

People who like the Jag XJ's cringe at the thought of doing a 350 conversion.
Buell lovers hate the thought of parting out a perfectly good S1 to build a chopper.
Who gives a crap.
Yeah, I'm much more impressed with someone who built something themselves, or with the help of others (regardless of the cost) than someone who walks into a showroom and cuts a check.Quote:

Rat rods rule! These cars are reminders of our roots.
NO no way man this is a real rat rod hehehe:LOL: :p
I like it but when im done can I flush it in your drive way
Lets start with no1 . back when I was younger I worked in a shop that customized Corvettes . We did some nice cars but we did some real tacky things also but at that time it was to win trophies and the more modifications the better. This in my opinion was not good but we did what the customer wanted and when thay did not win the trophy thay got mad at us . lots of money no dedication or respect for tradition just flash, here today gone tomorrow
I never said I was better than anybody else but I got the impression by others that they certainly feel they are better than us because of their "show style of vehicle" that they have chosen must be safer, or more deserving than the "fugly rat rods". So what, I get dumped on because I actually defended the "fugly" cars and in turn have pissed in your corn flakes therefore I am a whinner? You know, the whole point of my responding to any of this is to show that we each have our own opinions as individuals and nobody's like of any vehicle is better than anyone elses. I am sorry, but we got dumped on first and so sorry if YOU got offended - what doesn't matter if We get offended? Are we just supossed to sit back and let you guys dump on a style of vehicle that we like but we cannot do the same in return?
By the way, I like how you picked words in many posts I have sent and pasted them together which has put them out of context but has really helped make your points look good.
You know everyone has a right to their opinion, that is what a CONVERSATION or DISCUSSION is all about - and isn't that what this forum is all about? Listenting to others opinion and maybe learning a little from each other. Ya know, your style of car may not be mine, but in reality I do respect your decision and choice, but I get the feeling, that you don't respect mine.
Wreck,
You have got my point exactly!
Deep down, whether it is glass or steel and the attraction to this era of cars, we are all the same. We in this thing we call a "hobby" are all fools - meaning it sucks us into the whole thing - our money, our thoughts, our energy - we pretty much live and breathe this "hobby" but maybe addiction is a better term.
- I didn't see anyone claim to be better than anyone else just because they didn't prefer ratrods.
- Almost everyone said "build what you want . . . I just don't care for {fill in the blank}."
- Who was the first (maybe only) one to use the word "fool?"
- Who said that anything that wasn't steel was "secondary" in the hobby.
- Who told everyone to go to a modern car or a four door if they couldn't find a "real steel" body?
- Who injected the "lack of dedication" line of thought?
With that, I quit. I don't care who builds a rat rod. I think some of them are really inventive, but I still don't want one.
To add to Henry's comments, you're not seeing the historical perspective either. For almost a year now we've had a steady parade of self professed "rat rodders" roll through here. With the exception of only a couple, everyone of them comes on like an acre of garlic. It's like they've got some chip on their shoulder. Look a few posts up. The guy says his whole deal is to piss people off. That attitude crap is gettin' old.
This is like a club house, or even your house. Some guy comes in, and before he gets to know anybody he starts in with the "rat rods are the root of rodding", "only rat rods are real", "only people who build everything on their own car are real rodders", and blah blah blah blah blah. Lately, we even get the guys who get into serious name calling in two or three of their first posts. Would you welcome that kind of boor into your house? Henry makes some good points. With the exception of Streets and his "suck" remark, most everyone else here is pretty ambivalent about rat rods until the self professed "real hot rodder" starts in with that attitude thing again. Then they start reacting to the jerk-like attitude more than the choice of car.
And for some of us who've been around the scene for more than 40 years these self professed "keepers of the flame" show their ignorance. Not all cars from the '40's and '50's were ratty looking. Most of these "high and mighty" types probably have never heard of Dick Courtney, Doane Spencer, Fred Mack, Bob McGee, Fred Steele, Ed Iskendarian and several hundred more REAL rodders who built well finished and high quality looking cars 50 years ago.
Get acquainted and you might find there's more similarity here than you realize.
Bob- what they don't understand is that with the exception of a very few, we also are Rat rodders. By their on descriptions, only we just take it a step further, as they will when they can afford it.
I've got about 5 "Rat Rods" sitting in my lower field, and when I get to them I'll build them. But they won't hit the street until they are ready....I'd just as soon drive my old truck. My Grand daddy built cars for the moon shiners, my daddy built stock cars, and I build street rods, and I was always taught that you don't bring it out till it's ready. Period, and what ever happened to taking pride in what you do?? Has that fallen by the wayside too? If so then we are to blame for this new attitude that the young ones are portraying, and I for one am ashamed
It's called "The Go-Fast Crack Pipe."Quote:

I just had to share this with you guys hope you ladys dont get embarest
Why is 68 the speed limit for a woman in bed?
Because at 69 she blows a rod.
    :toocool:
I will give up on this rat rod thing but going back on the old posts that I found on this subjuct I found alot of negative comments about our side of the hobbie and it did hirt my sensitive feelings un safe .... bitch rodder ... whinner ... fugly I think it all silly .
Yes Bob I have heard of all all those names at the age of 12 I started to collect all the rod mags I could and have all of hot rod from 1949 up tough to get early stuff in CANADA. Also all of honk hop up car craft and 700 other little pages and my choise is to build like the guy in the readers rides because I think we are the back bone of the hobbie and to get put down by some as non deserving dose take a toll . If you ever get a chance to go through some old mags in the 50s you will find some primer cars as features but as time moved on thay had to fit other catigories and by the 60s you did not see the average cars but in the rides section.
Hambiskit,
Your comment of
"...and I was always taught that you don't bring it out till it's ready. Period, and what ever happened to taking pride in what you do?? Has that fallen by the wayside too? ..."
has raised a few important questions:
At pretty much every car show you go to there is usually a class set aside for "Unfinished", are you saying that this class should not exist? Do you not think that the guy who has worked really hard on his ride, and brings it to enter this class should not feel pride in what he has so far accomplished?
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I think that no matter the age of the person, financial situation, choice of vehicle or state of build, everyone should take pride in their ride!!!
Ok well I have been hot rodding for 200 years, and i dated Don Garletts sister, and I this and I that,,, ooops is that the recess bell?
They all have their place, but ya know everyone slams on the other and they says they didn't and gets offended.
Park 5 "finished cars" and one ratrod and the rat rod looks trick
Park 5 "Ratrods" and one finished, and the finish looks trick.
Its all opinion, i have no urge to belong to any club ( i joined this forum just to post this) But hey if its ur gig, do it, if you want to spend $$$$ on a glossy paint job and a 671 blower, yet never spin the tires, do it, You wanna primer flames on your moms station wagon and drag race it in the 45 second class, do it. For awile i didn't get the " tuner car " thing, u know the little honda that sounds like a bumble bee on crack? then i saw a kid with a honda del sol pull up to a dyno and turn 500+ hp. Then the kid took me to school. all i saw was pretty, little clear tailights and heard a faint buzz. leason learned, he may have known what he was doing.
"roots" this and "roots" that, who the hell cares, you know it probably went somthing like this, kids took their dads cars and truck and chopped em up for illegal activity, they became the cool kids, other kids said, hey looky there, and did the same but built it for pretty and for cool. walaa Hot Rods.
Just bought a 68' chevy truck with a crap earl schrives paint job, i rronicly looks like suede, cause i needed a truck, hmm i could restore it and not be able to haul stuff,or i could drive a farm truck around, or i could put some $100.00 wheels, heat the springs, and add a set of suede flames with red pinstrip. U guess.
Drive what u want, leave others alone, cause when the green flag drops the bull$&%# stops.
Hey Bill, this thread is done, stick a fork in it.....Please
hey bottomfeeder i completely agree with you. i am a huge rat rod fan although i prefer to call them HOT RODS anyway i agree with you the REAL hot rods are where it is at. just because it didnt cost 300 grand dont mean its not as good or better. and a side note people who dont drive there car until its finished are wussies:LOL:  i think people dont like rat rods cuz dere scurd of em! i mean id rather have a car that if it got kicked or crashed into at 5-20 mph would only leave a dent instead of a hole. .........probably gonna get yelled at for this one but oh well..........................scooter
Congrats, gasser. You did one entire post before you went back to name calling. At 17 I doubt seriously if you even understand the concept of going fast. Just for my enlightenment, could you relate all of your racing experience??? And by the way, I am not a wuss, and I do not argue with children.
if you cant handle "wussies" you need psychiatric help. and im sick of this age crap how d*mn old do you have to be to get respect 65 OR WHAT HERE???????? d*mnit!!!!!!!!!! just because i am 17 dont make me dumb or a child. i am sick of being called a child ohhh if you want to call me some thing make it worth your time and call me an a*shole.....now lets all get along d*amn.**) **) **) **) **)
Gasser, respect is earned, not something you are given. The price of respect is experience, honesty, integrity, and tolerance. Respect does not magically appear at any age.

AAAAhh good. I get to copy and paste from another thread. This was meant for ANOTHER kid but this really kinda' universal don't ya' think.....???
I've explained this before.................
I could explain forever and until you get some years under your belt (say 30 or 40 more) you don't have a clue what I'm talkin' about. And I'm NOT putting you down. That's just the way it is. (that human nature thang again).
If you live long enough ...... someday you'll say ............ Oh yea, now I understand what those old geezerz' were talking about. Until then your just gonna havta' live with that fact that you THINK you know what life is all about.
I gotta take off for a while and get my son's car runnin'. KIDS KIDS KIDS.
I'm back. Jeff's steering column just came apart. I looked down inside and I see a couple bolts came lose. He said it's been lose for awhile. Then we had a discussion about the finer points of automobile maintenance and a "How to" on staying alive on the road. Kids Kids Kids. He has a job for tomorrow moring now. He tooo needs some more years before he understands. Although I think he WILL keep a closer eye on his car from now on. Lesson learned. :(
go ahead and call me brat and kid and all that crap but i really dont care. just because your older and have been doing something longer doesnt mean your good at it,, u can be though. hell i know people who have worked on cars for 20 years and they cant tune a holley carb so they bring it to me. catch my drift yet?......scooter
Nope Scooter, I seldom catch on to much of anything that your are talking about. Work on a lot of Holley's huh?? That's nice.
your about a smart a*s. if your so smart you should get what im talking about you can do something all your life and still not be good at it. this is a fact. im not saying your bad or good either. its just for some reason people under 32 are s*hit to you guys and i dont know why......your age has made you arrogant...............scooter
also out of all the old people i've met in person and online this group has the worst attitude it mostly says to me if you dont do what we do your scum. and out of all the old guys i've met you guys are the worst u bash other people you call them names etc etc. does it make you feel good?? because it sure doesnt leave a good impression.............scooter:mad: BTW whats wrong with holleys? beats leaky edelbrocks.
You sure do seem to read a lot into posts. I didn't say there was a thing wrong with Holley's. Personally, I prefer fuel injection. If I run a carb on something that's going racing, it's usually a Predator. And btw Scooter, I don't see any reason I would have to try to impress you or anyone else on this site. And as far as name calling, far be it for me to compete with you, I am obviously in the presence of a master in the name calling arena !!!!!
"respect is earned, not something you are given. The price of respect is experience, honesty, integrity, and tolerance. "
Hey Dave,
If what you say is true on the respect issue, the word tolerance means to tolerate all! From what I have been reading, you don't seem to tolerate much...only when it's your opinion. If anybody disagrees with you you don't seem to "tolerate" it. So I guess you don't deserve my respect, but you are fun to debate with.
Gasser,
I remember being in your position and let me tell you it doesn't get any easier. I belonged to a Street Rod club at 20, was called "young pup" for almost 20 years! And you know what, I still am perceived that way by most people over the age of 55 - don't worry about it so much, I think they are all scared of us "young pups" growing up so they feel they have to try to keep us down, and they use the word respect as a whipping stick to make us feel inferior. Don't let it bother you so much cause they'll all die soon and we will be the "know-it-alls!" and then we all will have to remember how we were treated and give the young uns the respect they deserve!!!!!
