so i have been reading up on here and know the steering is going to be a problem, does anyone know where to get engine mounts and trans crossmember? or is it something i will have to fabricate? Are there any other issues i will have to deal with? has anyone done one that has pictures of the whole process? thanks for the help
First welcome to CHR even though you have been a member for almost a year. I have a 51 Ply 2dr. sedan. I would be interested in a late model engine, and trans in my car as well. A small block Chevy would be nice also.

I'll have to say that most of what you want to do is a "one off" kind of mod. The '50's MoPars aren't exactly a hot seller in the rodding market even though they really are nice to work with.
Take a look at Speedway as they have some universal mounts that might work, but of course you have to do the final engineering/mods.

Then there's the wiring (6V to 12V), exhaust, trans tunnel mods, and rear axle. I doubt the old Plymouth differential will take the torque of a 318, unless you soft pedal it.

I'm pretty sure that plymouth is going to have a closed driveshaft.Plan on using a driveshaft and rear axle to go with your 318...What you need to do is measure the distance between the brake backing plate flanges on your current rear axle and post it here..You can get some suggestions as to what fits..Since you will have to fabricate a driveshaft it really doesn't matter what make the axle is. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are two oil pans for the 318 if you need a different sump design to fit your application..
any V-8 swap will require a DIY to make things work for the motor and trans.
