Intro / BIG ROD PROJECT
Hello everybody. I'm new to the board. I have a rather odd rod project that I picked up last weekend. It is a 1947 Seagrave firetruck that came with a 906 ci V12. The firefighting stuff is going to be removed and truck turned into a roadster version of a Ford Excursion...3 rows of bench seats and room to spare. Its gonna get air bags and 4 links on both ends.
I am looking for ideas on the links for such a big/heavy rod.
below is a picture of it being towed by my crewcab SuperDuty

WOW what a neat project!!!!! (What can I say, I'm an old farm kid and have always had a soft spot for big trucks :whacked: )
Don't know if I can be much help on the suspension part, but as far as drivetrains, I may have some suggestions if you don't intend to use the original (I suspect parts may be a little hard to come by for that engine). I've done a couple of big truck projects in the past (52 Ford F6 conventional cab w/402 Chevy BB, offy bellhousing adaptor to original tranny and 2 spd rear,..... 51 Ford F6 Cab Over with a 440 Chrysler, Torqueflight and Hone Overdrive).
Good luck with the project.

Time for an update.
Time for an update. The 906 cubic inch V-12 just wasn't big enough. I bought a 1,790 cubic inch motor to shove in it (same kind as Blastolene Special). I'm going to try it with the big 4 speed first.
I also have decided on wheels and tires. Classic medium hole Alcoas. 22.5 x 7.5 with 255/70/22.5 tires on the front (36" tall) amd 24.5 x 8.25 (duals) with 285/75/24.5 tires (41.5" tall).
